A Victory Tradition
A Morality Tale About the Evils of Sake
a Tales of Symphonia fic
by Kalushan
This will be MUCH longer than any of my previous fics, as I am trying something new. Also, it has three distinct flavors: it starts lime, occasionally a little sugar/vanilla, and finishes lemon. Appropriate warnings will follow, but this is supposed to be a love story, that’s why the no nudity and heavy breathing for a while. Set a few months after the reunification of the two worlds. Ignoring the sequel, since it hasn’t come out yet as I start this. To my everlasting sorrow, I do not own Tales of Symphonia; that distinction belongs to NAMCO. Not for sale. As always, c&c is welcome at: kalushan@hotmail.com.
Chapter 1
A Victory Tradition
(lime)
“Are you sure about this, Sheena?” Lloyd asked, looking at the cup dubiously. He sniffed at the hot clear liquid and made a face.
“Quite sure,” the ninja girl said, pouring two more cups. “Here, Colette, you, too.” She handed one to the blonde Chosen.
Colette took the proffered drink hesitantly. “I don’t know, Sheena, we’re kinda young for this…”
“Nonsense! This is an ancient Mizuho tradition,” Sheena replied. She was sitting on her knees as they lounged around a campfire outside of the ruins of Palmacosta, backs to a nice comfy log. The sun was setting across the ocean, and the wind off the sea was just chilly enough for the three young heroes to be glad of the warmth from their small ceramic saucers. The Summoner eyed her own cup. “We have won a great victory, and so…we drink!” She knocked back the rice wine. “wowWHEE that’s good!” she exclaimed, frightening the younger teens even further.
Colette and Lloyd looked at each other. “Uhhh…” But the buxom ninja was already pouring herself another round.
“Come on, you two, stop being so uptight! There’s no one else but us tonight, anyway,” Sheena said, taking a smaller sip this time.
Lloyd split another look with his childhood friend and then shrugged. “Okay, Sheena.” He threw back his own, nearly gagging on the oily texture. It wasn’t all bad, however. “What the-oooh, that DOES feel nice,” he said, as the sake began warming him up. Sheena nodded, giving him a refill.
“Your turn, honey,” she prodded Colette. The youngest member took a small sip, smacking her lips, then in a long pull emptied her cup. The cloying, almost floral taste was surprisingly good.
With the rest of the group either working on the excavation and reconstruction of Palmacosta or spread out across the newly reunified world assisting with the rebuilding, the three teens were on their own. Raine, unanimously elected project coordinator, had given them the task of exploring and mapping the near region, scouting out sites for materials, and looking for any settlers who wanted to move into the new city, intended to be the world’s first (terrestrial) haven for half-elves. They had taken three of the Rheiards and had made camp for the night on a cliff overlooking the sea, with a stream running in nearby. The trouble began when Sheena announced that they desperately needed a celebration of their achievements over Yggdrasil, and broke out an extra-large bottle from her home village.
By now, at the older girl’s constant urging, Lloyd and Colette were each on their fourth cup, while Sheena was working on her seventh.
“Sho when are you two going to announce that you’re a (hic!) couple?” Sheena slurredly asked, tapping her upper chest against more hiccups.
The two teens turned crimson, which caused Sheena to bray out in laughter. “Oh your fashes are prisheless! You’d think the two of you haddend even kished yet!”
The two in question hemmed and hawed, looking any place but each other. Sheena’s jaw dropped. “No. It’s imposhibal. You two have known each other all your lives?”
“Well,” Lloyd said.
“Yeah,” Colette added.
“It’s just,” he continued.
“Oh for Martel’s shake,” Sheena replied in exasperation. “It’sh not that hard, shee?” And then she pounced on Lloyd and kissed him soundly. Colette could only watch, shocked, as the ninja girl enthusiastically locked lips with her best friend. For his part, Lloyd was no less surprised, but responded quickly enough to such a sweet sensation.
Eventually, Sheena came up for air, quite satisfied. The taste of the sake from Lloyd’s lips was even better than normal! She looked over at Colette, who appeared to be on the verge of tears. “Feeling left out, honey?” she asked, and slinkily crawled over to the girl.
Colette felt like a rabbit brought to bay by a panther. She could neither move nor break eye contact as that which she most feared approached. Nevertheless, when Sheena swept her up in a passionate kiss, it was the last thing she expected. She struggled briefly, and then melted into it. The older girl’s warm soft lips on hers felt wonderful.
Lloyd was confused. On the one hand, Sheena had no business kissing someone else just after giving him by far the best kiss of his life. Also, her choice of kissing partner was in fact the person that HE most wanted to kiss and he thus resented the intrusion. On the other hand, OH MY FREAKIN’ GOD THAT’S HOT!
With Colette now pliable in her arms, Sheena shoved her at Lloyd. “Now that you’re both primed, make with the spit-swapping already!” she insisted, deciding to forgo the cup and taking a long swig straight from the (by now somewhat depleted) bottle. “Yummy.”
Lloyd and Colette bashfully held each other, and so very very slowly, bent their heads together until…contact! They kissed softly and sweetly, letting their emotions finally have play. Sheena clapped loudly, whistling. They looked back at her, Colette’s head against Lloyd’s chest so she could hear his pounding heart, his chin resting on the top of her head. “Thanks, Sheena,” he whispered.
“No need to thank me, thas jus another reason to drink!” she replied, pouring them each another cup.
After several more rounds, the bottle was finally empty, and the three young people were slumped together. Colette and Lloyd kept sneaking kisses, until Sheena decided she’d had enough. “Hey! It’sh called sharing; you’re not the only one who’s in love with Lloyd, ya know,” she told Colette, pulling the boy around and kissing him sloppily.
“What ’bout me?” Colette whined, pushing feebly at the Summoner’s shoulder.
“Well, you’re (hic) pretty cute (hic), sho here,” Sheena replied, planting one on a delighted Colette.
Lloyd grinned goofily. “Thash hot,” he slurred, before falling backwards against the log. The stars swirled around him and he squeezed his eyes shut. “Gonna sleep now,” he mumbled.
The girls thought this was the funniest thing ever said, so giggled and exchanged kisses for several long minutes, before deciding it was the wisest thing ever said, too. They burrowed under Lloyd’s arms, cuddling up to him. “Love you, Lloyd. Love you, Sheena,” Colette managed to say, squeezing the other girl’s hand and nuzzling Lloyd’s chest before dropping off.
