The Mothers

Chapter Nine: The Mothers

“Sora Miyake!” A brown haired woman barked, her blue eyes narrowed in a dangerous glare, “You get your hands off of that filthy boy this instant!”

It seemed as though in a matter of seconds the kitchen's once calm, serene, and celebratory atmosphere had exploded in a burst of chaotic movement. Riku jumped at the shrill shouting of Sora's mother, instinctively jumping in front of his lover to protect him, though he probably needed it more. His brothers pushed the couple to the back of the room, standing in front of them, all three in various states of unrest.

“Filthy?! He's not filthy!” Kadaj shouted back, sticking his tongue out at the older woman, “I bet he loves Sora more that you do, you old bit-mmph!” His words were cut off just in the nick of time by his Father clamping his hand over his son's mouth, “Now, now, boys. Is that anyway to treat a guest?” The elder Tanaka asked, ignoring Kadaj's muffled response, “Now, Sakura, what can I do for you today?”

The woman snorted, “I've come to collect my son.” She said simply, her eyes passing all the silver haired men, landing squarely on her paling son.

“Sora does not wish to leave.” Sephiroth said, giving the woman an apologetic smile, “Therefore, I can not force him to.”

“Sora, get your things immediately.” Sakura said, “You are still my child and you will do as I say.”

Riku snorted, “That's not what your husband said...” He muttered, getting nudged in the stomach by his lover and a stern glare from his father.

“N-no Mother. I'm not leaving Riku.” Sora said, his voice barely carrying over the other people to reach his mother.

The woman chuckled darkly, “Now, now, son. Why would you want to stay with these unholy people? They have corrupted you...brainwashed you. Let us go home, then I'll make an appointment with the family doctor to take care of that...problem.”

Sora's eyes widened, and he opened his mouth to reject, but Riku beat him to it, “Hypocrite.” He said softly, glaring at the woman, “You're a hypocrite...just like your husband. Abortion goes against the Catholic church. It's a sin to take away life.”

“It's not a sin when what you're getting rid of is an abomination.” Sakura replied simply.

“Our baby is not an abomination!” Sora cried, pushing past the brothers' and his lover, “It's a child! Your grandchild!”

Sakura snorted, “It's no grandchild of mine, nor will you continue being my son should you choose to stay with these people.” She said, glaring at her only child.

There was silence...it filled the room. Letting the tension grow and thicken.

“I'm not going with you.” Sora said, looking up at his mother, tears filling his eyes as he felt a pair of arms come around him, he glanced behind him to see his lover, “You're not separating me from the person I love and destroying our child, Mother, I'm sorry.”

The brown haired woman stayed rooted to her spot just a moment longer, “Fine.” She said simply, “Then I have no son.” She finished, giving the entire family a glare before she spun on her heel and stomped out of the house.

“Well...” Kadaj began, after his father's hand dropped from his mouth, “...that was fun.”

Yazoo rolled his eyes, slapping the younger Tanaka on the back of the head, “For once in your life, can't you just shut up?” He asked.

“No, I couldn't do that to the world.” Kadaj replied, giving his brother a smirk before he walked to the fridge, ransacking it, looking for something to eat.

Loz shook his head, sitting at the table, “Has anyone thought to tell mom yet?” He asked, looking over at his father and younger brother.

The man shook his head, “She's still at work. But, she'll be told when she comes home.” Sephiroth said, heaving a sigh before he sat in his chair, picking up his newspaper again.

Yazoo took the place next to his father, checking his watch, “Wonder if she'll be surprised...” He said quietly, looking over at his father.

Kadaj closed the fridge with his hip, a strawberry yogurt in hand as he walked to the cutlery draw, pulling it open before getting a spoon, “Of course she'll be surprised, stupid.” He said as he took the seat next to Yazoo and the one Sora was being steered into by his youngest brother, “She expected Riku to get a girl pregnant...not a boy.” He paused, turning to look at Sora, “Though...Sora is awfully girly...”

Both Yazoo and Riku slapped him on the back of the head, causing the boy to pout, “Some brothers' you are...” He whined, opening his yogurt before he went about eating it.

Yazoo rolled his eyes, “As much as I'd love to stick around here, I need to get going.” He said standing, “Work and all.” He said, ruffling Sora's hair as he walked by, “Be sure to call me after you speak to mother.”

“Now, which one of you two will help me go get Sora's things?” Sephiroth said after Yazoo had left, lowering his paper so he could look at both Loz and Kadaj.

The youngest out of the two blinked, “I...uh...have a paper due! Yeah! For school and stuff!” He said quickly, standing up.

Sephiroth eyed the boy, “Sure you do.” He said flatly, watching the boy throw his yogurt container away before disappearing upstairs to do that... “paper”.

“I'll help, Dad.” Loz said offered as he poured himself a cup of coffee, “Today's my day off and I don't have a....paper due.”

Sephiroth chuckled lightly, “Alright. We can go ahead and do that after your coffee then.” He said, “Is there anything you need particular from your parents' house, Sora?”

The brunet blinked, thinking for a moment, “Besides clothes and my things for school...nothing I can think of.”

Riku snorted, “His bear.” He said simply, pressing a kiss to the boy's forehead.

Sora pouted as the remaining three Tanaka's broke out into hushed chuckles.

Riku held his lover close as he looked up at the ceiling in his room, sighing softly. Both of Sora's parents had disowned him. Both of them. He knew his little lover was beyond heartbroken, but there was nothing he could really do about it, “You know I love you right?” He whispered softly.

The brunet glanced over at his lover, “I know you do.” He replied before turning over on his stomach, resting his head on the silver haired boy's chest, “And, I love you too.” He said softly.

“I'm sorry...for everything, Sora.” Riku murmured, bringing an arm around the brunet's back, holding him close.

Sora frowned lightly, looking up at Riku again, “What for?” He asked.

“You lost both of your parents in one day, and it's my fault.” The silver haired teen replied softly, “If I hadn't said that spell...”

“No! Don't say that!” Sora insisted, pushing himself up, “I'm glad we did that spell, I'm glad I got pregnant, and most of all, I'm glad it all happened with you.” He said, pressing a kiss to his lover's lips, “God has a plan for everyone and this is just ours.”

Riku stared at Sora, a look of awe passed over his features, “How can you still believe in God after all of this?” He asked softly, tangling a hand in the boy's spikes, “After his followers cast you aside?”

Sora sighed, “Because, God knew I was gay before I did.” He replied, laying his head against his lover's chest again, “It's not God who condemns our relationship, it's the people around us. How can we say what He condemns? How can mere humans know what He accepts? If loving you really is a sin, I'll find out when I meet my maker, but I won't regret any of it.”

“God Sora...” Riku said, “I love you so much.” He hugged his lover to his chest.

Sora smiled lightly, “I know you do.” He returned, “I love you too.”

The two laid in quiet, embracing each other until a soft knock interpreted their serenity. The elder of the two heaved a sigh, gently pushing Sora off of him before he pushed himself off the bed and walked to the door, “Mom?” He said softly, staring at the silver haired woman before him.

Risa Tanaka slowly nodded, “The one and only...” She said her voice drifting off, “Your father said you and Sora had something important to tell me...”

Riku nodded, moving back towards his bed, “We do.” He said softly, sitting next to his brunet on the bed.

His mother was a religious woman, not as much as Sora's mother, but religious just the same. Though it could be said that she was more open minded than Sora’s mother, but she was every bit as strict.

“Mom, I'm gay.” The silver haired teen said before glancing at his lover, “And, I've been seeing Sora for the past three years.”

The woman blinked, “Yes...I pretty much figured that much out. Is that all?” She said, placing a hand on her hip.

Riku blinked. What? Had he always been that obvious. Idly, he wondered who else already knew about him and Sora.

Sora slowly shook his head, “I'm...uh...p-pregnant.” He said softly.

“Okay, Risa, no more martini's after work...” The woman whispered to herself, “Now, really, what's the matter?”

“My dear, they're not lying. Sora really is carrying Riku's child, our grandchild.” Sephiroth said, coming up behind his wife.

The woman laughed softly, “Oh, and I thought we dodged that bullet...with Riku being gay and all.” She said with a sigh, turning to face her husband, her arms crossed, “Care to explain to me how this is all possible?”

Riku gave his father an amused smile as he watched him pale slightly. His mother didn't know about Sephiroth's magical background.

“Well, dear...how about I tell you over dinner...in a nice public place...?” Sephiroth said, grabbing his wife's hand.

Riku snorted, watching his father drag his mother away, “Yeah, so she doesn't kill him.”
