Chapter 7
Those total wimps! What was wrong with them?!
Hwoarang had gone to the other room in the hopes of being able to sit down and just hang out with some people that didn't piss him off nearly as much as his roomies. Unfortunately he had been greeted by the Chihuahua and its skinny owner who had awkwardly explained to him that Hiro had turned into a monster and flew onto the roof.
Now he knew all about the whole devil thing, but he had a hard time believing anything Hiro turned into could be considered a monster. After all, it had managed to prevent itself from maiming those brats, and that in itself should nominate Devil Hiro for sainthood. Someone had to do the deed, so Hwoarang had told the brats that they were wimps and should hide safely under their bed while he went and brought Hiro back down.
The roof was cool and looked like it was completely void of life at first. Just a nice calm breeze and a starless sky. He took a few steps toward the edge and paused, admiring that beautiful cityscape. It might even have been romantic if he hadn't been alone – not that he gave a flying rat's ass about romance...
Something moved in the corner of his eye. He quickly spun around, but still didn't see anyone or anything. That was weird. Maybe the big monster Hiro went for a flight a little further from the hotel. Not like there was anything up there that would really hold a demon's interest. Just as that thought crossed his mind though, he noticed a pair of red lights blink off and on. At first he had thought they were security lights, there was just something different about them that he hadn't noticed before, but as he moved closer... They were eyes. The monster in question lurked in the shadows, watching him. Okay, a little creepy, but it could have been worse.
"Hey Hiro... Cut it out, will ya? Let's go back downstairs." He waited for a response of some sort. The demonic man stepped out of the darkness far enough that he could be seen clearly in the bad lighting. A chill of both dread and wonder crept up his spine as he laid eyes on that horrifically amazing creature.
The guy had twisted, hideous horns protruding from his head, massive wings folded at his back and strange black symbols decorating his upper torso and face. Gruesome talons extended from his fingers, twitching back and forth as those glowing eyes remained fixed on the Korean. No doubt that powerful body was capable of great damage.
And yet, the only thing on Hwoarang's mind as he saw that, was the real Jin. That was definitely Jin's body, but was that what Jin looked like when the dark side came out? It felt almost scandalous that he was able to see something so intimately dark and corrupted when it wasn't the real thing. He averted his eyes temporarily, but they only ended up returning to the sight. He had to think of some way to distract himself before he actually got carried away with his fantasies.
"Stop it. It's impressive and everything, but it's time to go back to normal now." Hwoarang moved toward the fascinating creature. "You wouldn't want to give the wimps nightmares, would you?"
Still, it didn't make any more moves. It simply continued to stand there, watching, with its talons twitching at its side.
Not very cooperative, was he? Alright, then they'd have to get right to it. Hwoarang put a hand on the creature's shoulder and nudged it towards the door to go back inside the building. Big mistake. A dry guttural growl sounded way too close for comfort, and the next thing he knew, the talons were sinking into his arm and yanking him violently across the rooftop. The floor disappeared under his feet, followed by the sound of flapping wings. He panicked, but the shock of being airborne left him temporarily paralyzed.
And then he was crashing against he ground with pain shooting through the side of his body. He pushed himself up with a groan, but was happy that he was able to scramble back to his feet without much agony. Okay, at least nothing was broken or sprained. After taking a moment to re-orientate himself, he looked up to see the powerful beast circling around just a couple dozen feet up. Those red eyes were still glued on him, and they did not look friendly. He had to get away from there.
Hwoarang slowly crept toward the door, afraid that any sudden movements would endanger him. A sadistic grin tainted the creature's demonic face, even making it appear almost playful, and its wings extended at an angle as it dropped down on him.
"Fuck!" The talons sunk into the flesh of his other arm as he was roughly knocked back to the ground. One of the creatures knees pressed painfully into his chest. "Hiro! Let me go, goddamnit! That fucking hurts!" The demand went unanswered. The demon lifted him up off the ground again and this time, slammed him against the door.
It leaned in. The movements it made were so teasingly slow, the leather of its pants made a stiff crunching sound. All his pain was forgotten for a terrifying moment when he could feel that hot hungry breath against his cheek. "Hwoarang," Hiro's inhuman voice came out so deep and dark, it made his ears itch. "You are bleeding."
He blinked dumbly at the statement. That was the farthest thing from his mind and it was weird to think that was the only thing that creature would choose to say. He licked his lips nervously, and then glanced down at the talons still gripping his arm with a couple drops of blood trailing down. "Uh... Yeah, I am. Whose fault do you think that is, jackass?!"
For a second it almost looked like the creature took offense to that. It released its grip and moved away from him. Within seconds, it was creeping back into the darkness. It spoke one last barely audible word, "unworthy," before the glowing eyes – along with any last trace of its presence – was gone.
