Chapter Seven
Zelda ran out of the garden in a panic. Something was wrong here..Link would NEVER just leave like that!
"Link!" she yelled "Link!". Again. Nothing. Either he wasn't here, or he couldn't hear her.
She ran past the guards, not noticing the puzzled glances they shot her way. She needed to move faster, she thought, so she hiked up her skirts, revealing smooth, tender legs, drawing many stares from the various knighthood and servants she passed by.
She searched the entire first floor, room by room. The kitchen, the hall, the hallways, Link's room, even the servant's quarters. Nothing.
"By the Godesses, Link, where are you?" she thought. Her head swam.
She knew she was about to panic...but she steeled herself and headed towards the throne room. She was royalty. She needed to keep at least semi-calm about this whole thing. She had to tell her father! He would surely know what to do!
The same red roofed, slightly weatherbeaten houses, the same strong trees, the same fresh-smelling gardens.
But what wasn't the same was the decided lack of humanity he saw. Normally children would be playing in the streets, people would be out doing laundry, sweeping, cutting grass, tending to Cuccos. Busy-busy was the motto of this place!
But now the streets were empty. He walked slowly, smiling at the only person he saw, a little girl who ran up and clutched his tunic.
She looked up at him with huge eyes, and talked softly to him "Mister Link, did you come to save us?"
"Save you?" said Link out loud. "From what, cutie?"
But the little girl turned and ran away from him, and ducked into a house. He thought he heard sobbing.
Sahasrahla could wait. Something was very wrong here. The only person who would really know, since Sahasrahla was never home, was Florice. At least, he thought that. It was probably an excuse to go see her, really. He chuckled.
He headed down the lane, to her small house. It was odd not to see her outside. She was always outside. It was the reason she had the best-looking garden in town.
He knocked on her door, once, twice, three times. He smiled when he heard a soft voice that had a hint of golden bells in it. "Who is it?"
"It's Link..umm..can I come in?"
"Link? Alright...hold on."
A hand reached out and took his. They each squeezed the other's hand softly, and Link stepped Lifting her skirts again, Zelda ran.
Link walked slowly through Kakariko. He hadn't been here for a while, but it still looked the same. inside.
It was good to be home.
Zelda burst into the throne room. She felt her heart pounding in her chest, knowing she was failing in trying to keep calm. An insane notion from the start, she thought. How could ANYONE be calm in this kind of situation?! She ran up to the throne, noticing her father was napping. The Sentinels of Hyrule who guarded the King, as always, were completely passive.
"Father?"
No reaction. Alright, then.
"DADDY!" she yelled close to his ear while shaking him furiously.
King Hyrule sprang awake, gasping. "Gwah! What! What is it! Don't do that!"
Zelda smiled and kissed him on the cheek. "It gets results, doesn't it, Daddy?"
He smiled. It did indeed. "What is it you need, daughter mine? You would not wake me if it wasn't important."
"Well Father..it's Link..we were in the garden, and I fell asleep. Then I woke up, and he'd dissapeared! And he's nowhere in the castle..that's not the worst part though."
"It isn't? Zelda, what is the worst part?" The King seemed slightly amused.
Zelda was still quite the panicer, even as she became an adult.
Zelda looked at him and took his hands. Her eyes writ her concern quite clearly. "Darkness father..all this morning Link's eyes held some kind of darkness. Like some evil hangs over him! And now he just suddenly leaves...it isn't like him. And I know something is wrong!"
The King sighed, and looked at her. "Zelda...why do you have to do this to me now? I have had peace for 8 years. And now, Link decides to go for a stroll, and you want me to call out the entire knighthood and send them on a search throughout the countryside, and set the people into a panic?"
"Yes, just please, help find Link! He's in danger!"
That was about enough of this talk. "No, Zelda, he is not! You're just being paranoid! He's fine. Nothing can stop that boy, anyways. Now go back to whatever it was you were doing. I need my nap."
"But...but Father! You can't...!"
"Oh, I can, and I have, daughter mine. Go take a nap, you need to calm down. Speaking of which..."
Zelda was going to speak further, but he had his eyes closed already, and a small sound of snoring reached her ears. She let out a sound of disgust and stormed away. The old fool!
Hadn't he learned anything? She had told him Aghanim was evil, she had told him of the coming darkness 8 years ago, she had told him everything that would happen, and he didn't listen. And unfortunately, she'd been right.
And now, when thier only hope to survive whatever evil it was she knew must surely be out there was missing, he sat on his throne and took a nap?! It was ridiculous!
Peace and power had gone to his head, to be sure. She leaned against a wall and sighed heavily. Fine. If no one would go search for Link, she'd do it herself.
Zelda stormed through the halls, getting angrier as she went. She ignored the guards, ladies, servants, everyone who asked what was wrong. She was on a mission now, and by Nayru, she was going to find Link. And anyone who tried to stop her would face the wrath of a Triforce Bearer!
