Interlude

Deep Within the Walls of Evergreen Mills......

"Why was she not taken better care of?"

"Regulators attacked us and she got wounded in the fight." Replied Luce.

"Did I not tell you that if something happened to her I would hold you personally responsible?" The other man growled back at him.

"Yes." Said Luce.

There was a moments pause while the disgruntled man sighed and replied, "Then what am I to do with you? You are one of my best men and you let this happen."

"Give me another chance boss. I can make this right. Anything you need done I can do it. A couple weeks rest and a new squad. We could take the God damned Mall back."

The angry man pulled his fingerless gloves down, tightening its grip on his hand. "I will give you one last chance Luce. If you fail me again, don't even bother coming back to Evergreen again. You might as well take your self to Paradise Falls."

Luce sighed with relief and asked, "What is it you want done, boss?"

"Tell me Lucas, have you ever been to Tenpenny Tower...?"

----

Fifteen Days after Luce, Jax and Candy return to Evergreen Mills.

A sequence of loud thuds echoed through the one room accommodation of Candy's.

"Who is it?" I shouted at whoever was knocking on my door.

"It's me." Said the voice.

My heart dropped and I got a knot in my throat as he identified himself. "Come in." I managed to choke out.

The metal door that has been keeping me 'protected' in this Raider fortress for the last two weeks opened and the man stepped in.

I kept my mouth closed as he entered the room and closed the door behind him.

"How are you feeling?" He asked me.

"I've been better." I answered, a bit of distaste in my mouth. My wounds have all but healed by now. Now I am just bitter.

"I'm sending you back out with Luce and Jax tomorrow." He looked at me, anticipating a response but got none. "Luce is picking a couple new lads to go with you. Luce will still be your leader and Jax will now be the second. Consider yourself promoted."

The longer he spoke the more angry I became.

"I've been here more than two weeks, arrived with injuries and the first time you come to talk to me since I got here is to tell me I'm leaving tomorrow?" I snapped at him.

He frowned at me and sat on the spring mattress next to me. "Don't make this harder for me than what it already is. I've got two things in this world that mean something to me. My shotgun and you."

"Glad to know I'm on the same level as your shotgun. If that's all you have to say then goodbye." I said, urging him to leave. His presence a burden on me.

A silent moment passed before he stood. His voice changed as he put a hand on my face and smiled at me. "Candice, listen to me. Whe-" He was cut off by the familiar knocking sound on the door.

"Jack, it's time for the deal. Your 'patrons' have arrived!" the man outside the door said.

A silence hung in the air before he stood and put his hand on the door handle. He opened the door and stepped through it. Just before the door closed all the way I said out loud.

"Good bye... Dad." My eyes teared as I watch the door stop for a moment as if Jack was almost about to say something back before he closed the door all the way.
