Nothing...
"[Who are you working for and who is your immediate supervisor?]" Hal asked.
“[I don’t know what you mean, I’m unemployed!]” She lied with the most sincere looking face she could. Snake looked suspicious about the fact that he could feel Hal didn’t say anything about her tongue.
"[Please tell us or my partner here may rip out your tongue..and we don't want that do we?]" Hal warned
Snake looked much more pleased when she looked horrified and touched her mouth. “[I’m unemployed!]” She insisted, not going to let her face fall once. She looked a little too determined to be scared.
Hal sighed. "Snake.." he said looking over at him. "She keeps saying she's unemployed."
“I’ll fix that.” He said walking up to her, even if she started whimpering and squealing like he just said he’d eat her and he reached to grab her. He pulled her with him by the hair and ignored her tears until he tossed her skillfully on the floor and kicked her. “If you’re so unemployed why do you keep spying on Philanthropy, bitch!?” He yelled at the sobbing girl. She was trying to crawl to the drawers to get up.
Hal bit his lip and looked away slightly repeating what Snake said in Japanese
She looked from Hal to Dave and then reached out in a movement that looked far too controlled to relate to anything else she’d done so far she leaped to her feet, grabbed the gun and back-flipped until she had it on Hal’s temple. “[Ask your lover who tracked me.]” she said, giving Snake a very venomous look. Dave looked back immensely pissed – at himself.
Hal blinked and looked at Snake. "She asked me who tracked her.." he said trembling a little.
“Tell her that I did, also tell her I’m Hal Emmerich.” He said pointing at himself when he said the name in case Hal didn’t want to say that. She immediately studied him and then she did Otacon for a moment, calculating how she’d do it.
"[Hal..Emmerich did..]" Hal said looking at Snake.
“[Tell your man I am supposed to take the person who goes by that name, dead or alive]” she told him. Then cocked the pistol and signaled Dave to get on his knees and put his hands on his head, which he did. She smiled feeling she had the pan by the handle. “[Once you do that, step outside, you may not want to see this.]” She completed, she was not completely heartless.
"[Wait..]" Hal said softly looking down. "[I'm Hal Emmerich...]" he said. He didn't want Snake getting hurt on his behaf. "She knows Snake step out of the room.." he added looking up at Snake
She looked confused, as she’d been pointing the gun at Dave already and heard when he cursed at Hal’s words. She was about to point back at Hal when Dave grabbed the gun and diverted it as much as possible. He wrestled it out of her and shot her leg. She started wailing at the blood and the pain. “I told you you’d fucking /die/ if you didn’t help, didn’t I?!” he said, hitting her in the face with the same gun and walking over her, shooting her arm as well with her crying and begging. “Tell her she’s useless and that if I don’t know the name of her boss by the next five minutes not even you will save her.” He said, grabbing her hair and pulling her to look him in the eyes.
Hal trembled slightly. "[P..Please tell us who you're working for..I can't help you if you don't in the next five minutes..]"
“Ocelot, [he claims to be] Ocelot!” She said, in panic. The hard part was that Snake knew he couldn’t leave her alive. So he walked to Hal to try to reason with him. “If I don’t kill her it’ll come back to us, ok?” he said, trying not to end up hated by him.
"Wait.." Hal said standing up. "[why does]Ocelot[Want with me?]" he asked her
“[You have the basic knowledge that can prove to be apparently dangerous to him.]” She said, confirming something in Snake’s mind. Once Dave knew she was done speaking he placed his hand on Hal’s eye and said “Don’t look” into his ear, lifting the gun at level with her head. She was yelling at him not to and asking why he did this if she helped.
"She's asking why you're going to kill her since she helped.." Hal said closing his eyes.
“She frightened me” he said, pulling the trigger and putting her lights out. He looked at the mess and really didn’t want Hal to see it, so he looked at the man and made sure his eyes where closed before he went to pick the body up and took it into the bathroom so he could wrap it in the curtain.
Hal sat there with his eyes closed tightly.
Once Dave was done wrapping her he went back and sighed at Hal still there. "It's in the bathroom, you can open them." he said, kneeling to wipe the blood off the floor with a towel.
Hal opened his eyes and trembled. "You have the basic knowledge that can prove to be apparently dangerous to him...That's what she said.."
“I think she meant you, I have no knowledge of anything and whatever it is, it involves REX for some reason. Do you still remember what it was like?” he asked, really glad with the information they had.
"Of course I do.." Hal said. "How could I forget..wait...!" he added, his eyes widening
“What?” he said, hoping it didn’t involve the now dead girl in the bathroom.
"When i was put in that room i heard Ocelot's voice..." Hal replied
Dave sighed, for once not liking to be right. If Ocelot wanted Hal then it could lead to the man being involved, Dave liked Hal behind a computer and a codec, helping but not really involved with anything that endangered his life, it only gave him anxiety to think someone was looking for him to bring him any harm
"It was muffled but i remember it.." Hal said
“What did he want?” he asked, trying not to resort to hiding Hal under a cardboard box.
"I don't know.." Hal said looking down
“Doesn’t matter, he’s not getting it.” He said, Looking around. “I’m going to drop you off with your favorite pilot and I’m going alone next mission, ok?” he said, not really asking permission. “And it’s probably going to be two days before we can go there too.” He’d look for whatever it was that Ocelot was planning and see how Hal was involved.
"but..what if you get hurt or worse..?" Hal asked worriedly.
“Then she’ll put you back on land.” He said, dismissively. “I have to get rid of that body somewhere if we have to stay here two more days.” He mused, taking the glasses to toss them away.
Hal nodded. "The smell alone would be unbearable.."
“Let me…” he said signaling Hal that he was getting it out and that he did. He reluctantly put it in the curtain and rolled it up. Then taking it outside to see if he could dump it down the sewers he’d seen.
Hal started picking up the tiny pieces of skull from the floor and putting them in the towel.
Eventually Dave made his way to said sewer and dumped her there with a tool he’d gotten for this. He looked around and then left. This had been pretty clean, it would be more then two days before they knew that happened for sure. With that he made his way back.
Hal cleaned up the blood and everything and set the towel
“You need to throw that away. He said, meaning the towel. He walked to Hal and took it from his hands to do so himself. “What are you going to do with the rest of the day?”
"I'm not sure.." Hal replied
“Well, Ice princess, we could go eat somewhere” he said with a grin, trying to lighten the mood.
"Why do you keep refering to me as an ice princess?" Hal asked tilting his head.
“Because I keep advancing you and you just ignore me like I haven’t done anything.” He said, shamelessly while going to grab clothing that’s not soaked in blood and didn’t look so accusing.
Hal laughed and smiled, something he haden't done in a while. "I'm sorry. Just for that I'm taking you to the arcade to eat." he said
“Don’t be, people have their own ways of saying ‘no’, yours just happens to be pretty interesting” he said, finally changed properly.
"I wasn't saying no.." Hal replied
“Where was this arcade thing?” he said hurrying to the door or else he knew he’d pounce on the man.
Hal stood up. "Follow me." he grinned leading him out and down to the arcade/restaurant
Snake followed him and looked around, trying to memorize the way. It was a little more complicated for him to get around when everything was written in symbols.
Hal walked into the huge arcade with him. "Come on." he said grinning like a kid in a candy store
“So this is what the Otaku enjoy… Does Otaku have plural? Otakus?” he asked himself walking behind Hal and becoming familiar with the environment.
Hal got him some tokens and led him to one of the DDR machines. "[Want to play me?]" a teenage Japanese boy asked looking at Hal. Hal nodded and looked at Snake. "Watch and learn." he smirked putting the coins in the machine. The Japanese kid smirked at him and picked one of the hard songs. Otacon smirked and easily beat him.
Snake was just staring. It seemed simple enough, but apparently Hal had put a lot of practice to this, not that he’d have any interest in any game like that. Then saw something that made him want to try. He went to get the tokens he needed for it and stared lustfully at the machines before putting them in, taking the gun and taking aim.
Once Otacon was finished he went over to where Snake was
“It’s inaccurate” he complained, blowing another zombie’s head. “You don’t reload clips by shooting out of the screen, who heard of something like that?”
Hal laughed "It's just a game Snake."
“And there’s a hostage up in that tower, my approach should not be to shoot my way up their ranks… their undead ranks, no less.” He rambled on. “Want to help?” he asked handing Hal the player two gun, not missing a shot. “It’s so easy it’s uncomfortable.”
Hal put a token in and picked it up. he started out bad but ended up getting as good as Snake pretty quick.
“You’re good at stuff like this.” He said, when they’d gotten the lady taken as hostage and shot the handcuff that kept her attached to the bad guy and prevented him from falling down the building. Snake went on another rant about helicopters and the government.
Hal patted his arm. "Calm down Snake."
“I liked it.” He concluded. Then looked around. “The food is where?” he asked as his priorities nagged him.
Hal laughed and led him to the consession stand. "What would you like?"
“If it’s cooked I’ll eat it.” He said, compliant to whatever it was he could eat.
"Shrimp fried rice?" Otacon asked
“Yeah, that.” He said, getting an idea of what it should be by the name.
Hal ordered two orders of the shrimp fried rice and handed one to Snake
He took it and followed Hal’s lead for everything, even when it came to eating he imitated him; since he was the one who knew how to do this.
Hal handed Snake a fork while he used chopsticks
Dave was really happy to see it too, since now he could eat normally. He’d been worried about that. With this he was able to finish his plate at his normal speed. Which was military fast.
Hal finished his just as fast.
“In a hurry?” he asked once he noticed this. But shrugged it away. “Now what?” he asked himself.
"DDR made me hungry.." Hal replied blushing
“Well you can either walk around or get back” he offered not being the one to pull the kid out of candy-land.
"Did you want to leave because if you want to leave we can." Hal said taking a sip of his Ramune
“Not if you don’t.” he said, looking at the people as they passed.
"I'm ready when you are.." hal replied
“Alright then, let’s move on then. We can always come tomorrow and I can try that over there.” He said, pointing at the long sniper rifle.
Hal laughed and nodded. "Sure"
Eventually they got up and where making their way back, at least Snake had learned most of it by now. He was looking around once more. “You don’t want to stop for something to drink?” he offered Hal.
"Sure." Hal replied
Snake was actually surprised at that, he hadn’t expected Hal to agree to begin with, so he ended up in the same place he’d been to last night, he ended up asking for the same thing he’d asked for too.
Hal asked for some warm sake and put the money on the table
“More rice for you.” He said, smile on his face. The day had been going pretty well from midpoint.
Hal laughed and nodded
“I’m happy with the rum, it’s good for when you want something to take your mind off things, but it doesn’t work” he said, as he’d lived that yesterday.
Hal srank some more sake and handed him a small cup of it. "Try this it'll knock you out of your keds."
“Me?” he asked challengingly and did as was told. “Pretty dry taste.”
"I know it's good." Hal replied
“Well it’s not bad.” He said, urging his partner to drink as he’d never seen Hal do that.
Hal smiled and poured him and Snake another.
All the while Snake was grinning, ironically getting hammered before Hal could… ah yes, had to remember Karma was obsessed with him.
Hal had a pink tint to his face after a while (and about 3rd bottle of sake). He was laughing uncontrolably at nothing and looking at Snake.
“Good thing I’m the one leading.” He slurred getting up and grabbing Hal by his jacket to pull him out of the chair like a carrot.
Hal blinked and laughed at him.
“What is it now?” he asked trying to find the straight path back without wavering too much.
"Nothing.." Hal giggled
“[I don’t know what you mean, I’m unemployed!]” She lied with the most sincere looking face she could. Snake looked suspicious about the fact that he could feel Hal didn’t say anything about her tongue.
