Harley: I’d appreciate it, right now, if people would stop discussing future games and new consoles in the reviews and stuck to bloody well discussing fanfics. Otherwise I’ll start deleting reviews. There’s discussion boards for that sort of thing.
Terminus: I mean COME ON! Somebody who openly admits that they steal shoes isn’t going to be very bright, but DM, I thought you were smarter than that.
Harley: Now for degrading Rouge a bit. I really like that part.

Chapter Six: Rapid Fire
Rouge watched as her kill team took up their concealed positions outside the main room. Twenty crack GUN commandos lay in wait for Shadow. Rouge knew he was coming for her, and it was the perfect opportunity for an ambush. She had a plasma pistol and three knives concealed in her clothing. "Come on, Shadow," she whispered to herself. "We've been waiting for you."
They'd been waiting for some time. But outside Club Rouge, Shadow was still watching from his place on a rooftop. He was pretty sure that there would be people in there, waiting for him. And he could take them all on, he knew it. But he was thinking. Thinking about why he was doing this. It wasn't to hurt Sonic, oh, no, although killing all those GUN bastards would piss the faker off no end. His eyes narrowed. Rouge had used him. To get those accursed Chaos Emeralds. She had used him, and he hated the feeling. He was going to use her right back.
Rouge leaned against one of the steel latticework columns in the club, waiting for Shadow to come in. Her team was composed of some of the best troops in the entire GUN. When they attacked, she would set off alarms across the entire city in case Shadow tried to escape.
Shadow took a deep breath. He was ready to fight, with GUN and with Rouge, the self-righteous bitch that she was. He'd show her who was in control. He'd destroy her utterly... With a tiny smile, he jumped down from his place on the roof, and wrenched open a manhole. Then he dropped into the large sewer beneath, and headed straight for Club Rouge. The sewers were the one place Rouge hadn't set alarms.
The dark hedgehog waded through sludge that was knee-deep, trying not to breathe through his nose, and found some pipes that led up, presumably to a sink or a toilet. Within a few seconds, he had punched his way up through the floor, and was standing in the kitchen of Club Rouge. He snatched up a huge meat cleaver, and curled up into a spin dash, shredding the body of the GUN soldier who came to investigate.
“Goddammit!” Rouge snarled, hearing the scream. She wasn’t sure how Shadow had gotten in, but he had to be stopped now! “What are you waiting for?” she shouted at the twenty GUN troops, “Go get him!”
An alarm sounded and twenty GUN soldiers burst into the room with guns drawn. Shadow just grinned. Even as the soldiers fired, he was already jumping. He homing attacked the first one and snatched up the dead man's sub-machine gun, grabbing a second in a headlock and using him as a human shield. He began firing rapidly at the soldiers. There were twenty of them and one of him, which basically meant that he was twenty times more likely to hit one of them than they were to hit him.
The GUN soldiers, realizing that Shadow was not going to just stand there and die, quickly took up cover, firing from behind counters, pillars, and doorways.
"Having fun, Shadow?" said Rouge. "If somehow you get out, I've tripped alarms all over the city. There is no escape."
Shadow began laughing, "You've got me right where I want you then," he chuckled nastily. Since he'd gotten into Club Rouge he'd already killed half-a-dozen soldiers, including the one whose neck he'd just broken. He dropped the body and hurled the meat cleaver at a soldier, then spindashed out of the kitchen, searching for Rouge.
Bullets slammed into on the wall as Shadow dashed out of the kitchen and into a corridor. The soldiers followed Shadow, the tight confines of the club hallways reducing Shadow's speed advantage.
Shadow didn't seem to care about getting away though. He spun on his heel 180 degrees and spun back at the soldiers, smashing into one and grabbing his gun, firing rapidly around him, "Why hide, bitch?!" he screamed, jumping around as the soldiers tried to get a sight on him, "You've got all these GUN basts to protect you! Come on out, let's have some one-on-one!"
There was no answer. Two soldiers came in through a door behind him, and three in front of him, closing him in.
Shadow laughed again and jumped right over their heads, firing as he did so. He was making his way towards the wide space of the main area, where he would have an undeniable agility advantage over any soldiers that came for him.
As Shadow entered the more open main area, the soldiers fired the grenade launchers under the barrels of their rifles, sending shrapnel flying everywhere. He put on an extra burst of speed and managed to dodge, if not all the shrapnel, then the really nasty chunks. Before the soldiers could fire again, he spindashed into one of them. It was impossible for them to fire grenades at him when he was so close, and by the time they'd dropped the launcher and reached for their pistols, Shadow was already using a dead man's semi-automatic on them.
As the shrapnel dissipated, several more soldiers popped up out of their cover spots in the main area and unleashed a lethal crossfire at Shadow. Now more than ten soldiers were simultaneously gunning for the spinning, whirling, speeding black form of Shadow.
Shadow was holding a grenade launcher now though. He fired it several times in the general direction of the soldiers who were firing at him, and dashed out of the room before the explosion could hit. Time to find that whore, Rouge. She'd make a great hostage.
Shadow charged through the hallways of Club Rouge, snatching up a revolver, determined to find Rouge. He found her in her bedroom, unlocking her safe and pushing clothes, jewels and money into a large suitcase. She'd heard the explosions and gunfire downstairs, and had surmised that GUN was losing, "You're coming with me, whore," he snarled, pointing the gun at her.
Rouge didn't even bother to reply, pulling a plasma pistol from her cleavage and firing it at Shadow. The searing beam missed him by mere inches, singing his fur as he dodged.
Shadow cursed and dodged another blast, then jumped close to her, kicking the blaster out of her hand and pushing the gun into her forehead. At this range it wouldn't just kill her; it would blow her head off, "Like I said," he growled, "You're coming with-" Suddenly the door burst open behind him and three GUN troops ran in, firing at him. He spun around, his gun firing wildly, destroying half the room as well as taking out the troops.
"How did you... How could you... No one could ever survive that!" Rouge spluttered, in disbelief at the fact that Shadow had torn through four squads of the GUN's best troops.
"I'm the Ultimate Lifeform, babe," Shadow snarled, "I can do whatever the hell I want." He stopped suddenly, and looked down at Rouge's suitcase. Already in it was a very familiar gem - a blue Chaos Emerald. He snatched it up, grinning maniacly, "Oh, this is even better than I thought it would be..."
Rouge pulled out a knife and tried to stab Shadow in the back as he grabbed the Chaos Emerald. Although she missed his spine, the blade went deep into his lower back muscles.
"FUCK!" Shadow turned back around and back-handed Rouge into the opposite wall. There was blood pouring down his back, but he was far too angry to care. He pushed the semi-automatic into her chest, "Get up," he growled, his other hand holding onto the Chaos Emerald tightly.
Rouge stood up, spitting a broken tooth out of her bleeding mouth. She didn't dare try to stab him again with a sub-machine gun pointed at her. "There are alarms going off all over the city," she said, "You won't get far."
Shadow just grinned, "I can get as far as I want," he said, holding up the Chaos Emerald, "You know, this is kinda ironic. If you weren't such an arrogant, greedy cow, this wouldn't be so easy."
"Chaos Control, huh?" said Rouge. "Maybe Gerald did give you a brain after all."
Shadow moved forward, the gun still digging firmly into Rouge's chest, "Gerald doesn't matter any more. What matters is that you used me. You helped me so that you could steal the Chaos Emeralds for yourself. You used me. This isn't about GUN, or that idiot Sonic. This is about me and you."
Rouge turned pale. "Y-you must understand, Shadow, I n-needed those Emeralds for... If... I... I..." Her throat turned dry and her mind raced as she realized the horrible implications of what Shadow was saying.
"You always use people, don't you, Rouge?" Shadow growled, "You use the government. You use GUN. You even use that stupid bastard Knuckles. All so that you can get a few shiny gems as trophies. It's not even about power!" he spat, "You're just an evil-minded, vain slut who doesn't give a shit about anybody or anything except herself."
"I think some people deserve to be taken advantage of,” Rouge replied, “You're nothing but an animal without someone pulling on your leash. Every beast needs its master. And Knuckles? He's a moron! He thinks the best thing to do with one of the greatest sources of power in the world is sit on it and twiddle his little echidna thumbs. Sonic might have had some redeeming qualities if he didn't have a vacuum between his ears." Her words were cutting and delivered with confidence, but her eyes betrayed her fear.
Shadow just sneered, "Some excellent points in your favour, Rouge, but one thing goes against you," he prodded her chest armour with the gun, "Two things, actually."
"So you think ladies are just meat for the mill, huh?" said Rouge. "Just like I said, you're nothing more than an animal who's lost its master."
"Then we'll see just how much of an animal I can be," Shadow growled again. He lunged again and wrapped his arms tightly around her, "CHAOS CONTROL!" he bellowed. There was a flare of blue light, and they vanished.
~~~
They reappeared moments later in pitch dark. Before Rouge could attack Shadow in the darkness, he flicked on a light switch, "Welcome to my little hideaway," he sneered.
"How could you live in this place?" said Rouge as she quickly stepped out of a puddle of stagnant water. The room was a dank cellar, approximately 20 feet square, with the walls and floor made of stone.
"Sometimes I have company," Shadow smirked, the gun dangling from one hand, "Why, Amy was here just a few days ago."
"Fuck you," Rouge spat. "So now I see your little scheme. You drag people down here and torture them. I hope you die."
"Yeah, Amy said that too," Shadow looked at the gun, then pressed a switch. The cartridge fell out. If Rouge did manage to get her hands on it, it would be useless without ammo, "I'm not gonna waste time chatting up you though."
As Shadow unloaded with the gun, Rouge pulled out another knife and stabbed him in the side, twisting the knife for more damage.
Shadow screamed, clutching his side, and fell to his knees. He looked up at Rouge and the rage and insanity in his eyes faded a little, "Rouge..." he gasped, "I'm... so sorry..."
"Oh, you’re sorry now?" said Rouge, picking up Shadow's gun and putting the clip back in. "If you let me go now, get out of here, and don't cause anymore trouble, I'll do my best to help you survive the GUN pursuit. I can't stop them completely though. What do you say?"
"I say..." Shadow concentrated on the Chaos Emerald hidden about his person, drawing strength from it, "BURN IN HELL!" He kicked out with one foot, knocking Rouge off her feet. As she stumbled and fumbled with the gun, he darted at her and knocked her to the floor. They wrestled over the gun for a few seconds, before he gained the upper hand again and tossed it into the corner. Then he wrapped his hands around Rouge's neck, and began to squeeze.
Rouge felt her vision dim as Shadow's hands constricted her throat. She clawed desperately at his hands, which held her in an unnaturally strong grip. "Please... stop..." she mouthed.
Shadow held her down with one hand now, and started to rummage around in her clothes, searching for weapons.
Rouge felt him pull out her third knife. She was now unarmed, practically helpless against Shadow. She looked up into his burning red eyes with terror.
Shadow punched her in the head, hard, watching in satisfaction as she passed out. Then he grimaced, touching his bloody side. He wanted to hurt her now. God he wanted to make her scream... but it would have to wait. He pulled away from her and picked up a long length of washing line, stripping her naked with brutal efficiency and tying her wrists and ankles with the thin rope tightly.
Then he stood back and pulled out a medikit, bandaging his wounded side and back, wincing in pain. He'd heal soon enough - he always did - but right now he wanted the fear to build up in her while he recovered a little.
