Chapter V

====================

Kairi began to walk a little faster as her house came into view. All things considered, it had worked out well in the end, although she was concerned that, on a purely physical level, she couldn’t satisfy both of them completely, but they didn’t seem to mind, and everything else was great. She found that she wasn’t really interested in the traditionally romantic things, so much as spending time with them both, which they could all do without having to hide it. Her mother had been throwing her measuring looks for a while now. She probably suspected that it wasn’t just one of them, but if she did, she hadn’t passed comment yet. She was just reaching for the door handle when her thoughts were interrupted.

“You took your time getting home today… you weren’t ambushed by an over-zealous keybearer along the way, were you?” Riku was leaning against the tree just by her front door, watching her out the corner of one eye. Kairi glanced about, then quickly dumped her bag inside the door and turned back, smiling at him, hands behind her back.
“Not yet… am I about to be?” Riku darted forward, grabbing one hand out from behind her and kissing her softly on the cheek.
“Come on!” She stopped, catching his eyes for a second.

“Wait, I’ll get changed, give me a minute!” She ducked inside before he could object, dashing to her room. Cold drink forgotten, she stripped out of her uniform, then cast about for something light. After a few seconds deliberating, she settled on the pink dress again… it really was her favourite, though. As she opened her top drawer, reaching for a fresh bra, she looked at herself in the mirror. Considering the evening she had planned, it would just be more fuss than it was worth. Instead, she pulled out a light white slip, pulling it over her head before slipping into the dress. When she thought about it, the thing was more like an oversized novelty corset than a dress, but it was comfortable, and she thought it looked nice. Turning once, she took a moment to run fingers through her hair, then dashed back towards the door. Riku grabbed her hand again the moment she stepped outside, and darted off between the trees, taking her with him. After a moment she broke into a proper run to keep up. Kairi was laughing, but she called out at him anyway.
“Riku, wait! I told Sora—” He glanced back over his shoulder, eyes glinting with that boyish excitement and joy she was glad he still had.
“I know, don’t worry!” The answer seemed strange, if she thought about it, but a moment later they burst into the small alcove where Riku kept his boat. He had built a small shelter for keeping the majority of the fishing gear he couldn’t be bothered carrying home. The remaining bits and pieces in his boat were promptly thrown here before he began to shove the small craft into the water. At his gesture, Kairi jumped in and sat in the end, Riku following a few seconds later, sitting opposite her and grabbing the oars. He turned the boat with casual ease and quickly began heading towards the children’s island. Her mind was pondering what Riku could be planning that wouldn’t impact on her plans with Sora, but nothing came. She trailed a hand in the water, watching him row. After a little while she looked past him, towards the island. They were already approaching the docks, and she wasn’t particularly surprised to see that Sora’s boat wasn’t present. She looked down the beach as they both climbed out, and could just make out his form gliding about over the surface of the water around the small, outlying island, no doubt trying to catch fish with his bare hands. His outfit was bright blue this time and Riku glanced at him, then to Kairi.
“Am I the only one who rows here any more?” He laughed, jumping down off the pier and heading along the beach towards Sora. Kairi followed, ducking through the door to take the stairs up, while Riku jumped and scrambled up over the roof. By the time she emerged from the top door and crossed the bridge, Riku was already getting comfortable, leaning against the Paupu tree, and Sora was just cresting the top of the ladder on the far side. He waved, grinning as his outfit dropped back to its normal black.
“Hey Kairi! Guess what?” He leaned against the tree alongside Riku, looking out to sea as she approached. They both looked across at her, excited sparks in their eyes and he tilted her head, eyeing Sora more than Riku.
“Change of plans?” She raised her eyebrows as Sora waved one hand, brushing the remark aside.
“Riku and I, we’ve been thinking…”
“The other worlds.” Riku cut him off. Sora rolled his eyes, out of the other boy’s sight. She guessed he was used to Riku’s dramatic interruptions by now. “I only got to see a few of them, and you barely got to see any, Kairi. We want to go visit them again, properly now that they’re safe.” More intrigued than puzzled now, Kairi walked over to position herself in between them, jumping up on the branch.
“Ok… I guess you’re both so excited because you’ve thought of a way to do it without a ship, right?” Sora nodded, still grinning like a loon.
“I think so, see, we were talking, and you know how we were able to find light passageways for our ship to travel, once all the worlds were isolated again, just like there were passageways full of heartless ships beforehand? But then, Organization XIII, and Riku, could travel without a ship, along dark corridors?” Kairi nodded. Riku was still looking out to sea.
“They threatened to consume me, on longer jumps, because my heart wasn’t given over to the darkness, though the more I accepted it as a part of me, the less dangerous it became, and I can’t even open one any more; I’m not a part of the darkness anymore, even if it’s still a part of me.” Sora was nodding.
“But the point is, there were corridors between the worlds that could be travelled without a ship, but only for the dark; it seemed like the most natural thing for the Organization. So we were thinking, shouldn’t there be light corridors as well, that we, as keybearers, should be able to use?” He was looking earnestly at Kairi; she rocked on the branch a little.
“That sounds right, but… how?” The wind seemed to go out of his sails briefly.
“We don’t know yet.” Riku’s voice was insisting that they would know soon, whatever his actual words were. She hoped they could find a way; Sora had told her all about the Pride Lands, and how beautiful it was in places, and she wanted to see it for herself. Something was still bugging her though.
“So, what now then? If that was all you wanted to talk about, we’d probably all be at my place, not out here.” On one side, Sora shifted his feet, looking down, on the other, she was sure she saw pink spots forming on Riku’s cheeks. Sora spoke first.

“Well, Riku and I, we were, umm, talking about something else as well, about the three of us…” Something dropped into place in Kairi’s mind and the other pieces began to put themselves together. She had a suspicion she knew exactly what they wanted to ask now, but let them continue, thinking about it.
“Hmmm?” She realised her tone had sounded more suspicious than she’d meant, and Riku stalled suddenly, jumping up onto the tree alongside her.
“There’s something we’ve not done yet, and I think we should.” He ran up the trunk of the tree, snagging a Paupu fruit with one hand before falling neatly back to the ground. He stood before Sora and Kairi and held it out between them. “If any three people have fates more entwined than ours, I’d like to meet them.” She had to agree there, and quickly took the fruit, dividing it into its five segments, while Sora joked about Sephiroth and Cloud sharing one. She handed two pieces each to Sora and Riku and kept one piece for herself, claiming that she ate more slowly, and that they shared more with each other. She burst into laughter as the boys exchanged stricken looks, further confirming her suspicion about what they wanted to ask. Kairi made a point of eating her spike of the fruit in a messy, provocative manner, just to tease, and eyed them both as she licked the juice off her fingers.

“So, come on, one of you spill. What are you really trying to ask?” Part of her wanted to stall as well, unsure how she was going to answer. This time it was Riku who found words first.
“We both love you, Kairi, and you love both of us. We share your time and affection, just as you have both of us as you are able and game for. We wondered if you were interested in having us both,” he hesitated, “together.” Even though she had known it was coming, she still ended up blushing a pink bright enough to match her dress. Strangely, though, the way Riku put it, it didn’t seem like such a big thing, really. She found herself smiling as she jumped down from the tree, and walked forward to the edge of the small island.
“So…” She bent over, swaying her hips slightly as she undid her shoes and pulled off her socks, so that she could feel the sand between her toes. Ok, she admitted to herself, it was more to tease them. “You both conspired here, to get me all the way out to this little island,” She took a moment stuffing her socks into their respective shoes and lining them up neatly by the ladder, then stood, stretching. “Just so that you could ask me for a threesome?” Glancing over her shoulder, se could see them both blushing awkwardly and looking away. She fought down a gleeful giggle that was trying to creep up on her, but decided that was enough torment. “You know,” she turned back, hands on hips, “you could have just asked me when you were both over at my place yesterday afternoon…” She could only hold the serious face a moment longer before the mischievous giggle won over. It redoubled as she watched their looks of mutual embarrassment turning swiftly to surprise and disbelief. Riku stepped in front of her, one hand raised, placing an accusing forefinger at the top of her breastbone.
“You knew all along, didn’t you?” She found herself thinking that it was an odd gesture for Riku to make as she giggled again and nodded, until the finger suddenly pushed and she fell back with a shout. She stopped as she hit the water, grabbing a breath instead and kicking back to the surface.
“Riku!!” She could hear him laughing up above.

“That was for teasing us.” He called down in between stripping down to the bathers he was wearing underneath his normal clothes. Sora glanced at him and shrugged, then began stripping down as well. He stopped short at the trousers, kicking the rest into a rough pile near his shoes and socks, and dived in a few moments after Riku. He splashed the other boy with a laugh.
“That was harsh, Riku.” He swam behind her, wrapping his arms lightly about her waist and looking over her shoulder. “You didn’t even give her a chance to undress!” Looking across at him, she could see white teeth and blue eyes smiling back. She started suddenly as she felt a tug, and found one of his hands undoing the main zip of her dress. Riku was already laughing at her surprise. The defiant part of her grinned back at Sora just as smugly, and she kicked forward hard, slipping over his arms and down. The zipper undid to her waist before she was able to pull free of it, leaving Sora holding the pink garment while she escaped towards the bottom in just her white slip. Correction; her virtually transparent slip, now that it was soaked. Upon reflection, she realised that if she didn’t always wear a plain slip underneath it, the dress would probably be terribly slutty. She crouched on the bottom for a moment, sinking her fingers into the sand as the current tugged at her, and looked up. Sora had lain on his back, laughing. A moment later he flipped forward again, pulling a face at her underwater. She saw him mouth the word ‘cheater’ at her before her lungs asked that she get some air.

As she broke the surface again, Riku pounced, kissing her almost before she’d had a chance to take a breath. His hand groped playfully at one breast and she smirked around the kiss, pushing away again. Part of her seemed determined not to be caught right away, but she found it was much harder to do with two of them, as her escape brought her straight back into Sora’s hands.
“Got you…” His voice was by her ear as his hands took the opportunity to play with one buttock and the opposite breast, tweaking her nipple through the fabric. Riku caught her again as well a moment later, catching her up in another kiss just as Sora bit lightly at her ear. She giggled as their touches explored her together. Sora hummed as his lower hand slid around to the front of her underwear and slipped inside, stroking, just as Riku’s fingers reached her rear instead. She laughed and squirmed as much as she could while still staying afloat. It was nice, but so strange as well.
“Enough, enough! You win!” The effort cost her a mouthful of water, still laughing. She broke free of them, diving down and made for the shore.

As she climbed out, the slip dragged at her, waterlogged, and she stopped, bunching it up and pulling it over her head. She threw it aside with a sigh, and jumped as a loud wolf-whistle came from the water. Looking over her shoulder, she could see Sora, on hand in his mouth, the other waving her dress over head. Despite herself, she blushed, then made a little show of stretching and brushing hands over her body to get most of the water off. She turned, covering her breasts with a smile as the boys waded out of the water towards her.

Later, the three of them lay, still breathing heavily, side by side, looking up at the sky. It was minutes before any of them spoke, but eventually Sora looked across at the other two, taking his hands from behind his head. He took Kairi’s hand as they brushed.
“Do you guys remember, years ago? We all lay like this, right here, watching the clouds.” Kairi smiled and took Riku’s hand on the other side, feeling him squeeze back slightly.
“Yeah,” She glanced at both of them. “I remember it degrading into a game of chicken with the tide. We all lay here for hours as it came in. We got sand in all our clothes.” Riku suppressed a chuckle at her mock disapproval.
“And if I remember right, you were more determined to win than any of us!” They all laughed then, thinking back. They had all lain there until evening, half joking, half taunting each other, and the tide had come up to their chests, even washing over them once or twice, but no-one had moved. By the time the water had begun to recede they had been lying in eroded indentations in the sand, and everyone else had gone home. It had been a week before any of them had felt like they’d gotten all the sand out.

Kairi blew a wisp of hair out of her face.
“It’s funny, here we all are, lying in the sand, just like back then, after everything. It’s like, for everything that’s different now, nothing really important has changed. It’s nice.” Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Sora turn his face to her.
“Well… we weren’t all naked back then.” He smirked and Kairi couldn’t help giggling. On other side, Riku flipped to his feet again, looking out to sea.
“That much is true. I don’t know about you two, but that breeze is cold.” Without waiting, he ran back to the water and dived in, swimming back towards the ladder on the small island where his clothes waited. Kairi picked herself up as well, throwing Sora his pants and stretching in the soft wind as he pulled them on. She could feel his eyes on her. She turned again to look at him as he spoke.
“So, Kairi, if we can work out how, which world would you like to visit first?” She thought about it as she rescued her underwear and shook the sand out of them.
“I don’t know. Atlantica sounds really nice, and you know my transform magic is better now than Donald’s ever was; I could make us all real merpeople, I’m sure of it. But if they really love singing that much, maybe it had best be only a really short visit. Otherwise Riku would be in danger of showing everyone he’s not as tone-deaf as he wants people to think. How about that Halloween place you told me about? Jack sounds like such a wonderful person to be around.” Sora nodded, still grinning.
“Yeah, you could call it that…” He laughed again, quietly. “But you know, Kairi, I’m sure the answer is something to do with how we got home, with the door to light.” He shrugged. “It did take us here from the world that never was without a vessel.” As they began wandering towards Riku, Kairi caught up her slip and dress, wringing them out before casting a very tightly controlled fire to warm and dry them. She looked across at him.
“Maybe, but that was to bring you back, to take you home… could we use it to go somewhere else, do you think?”
“Hey Sora! Catch!” The pair looked up towards Riku’s voice just in time for Sora to catch the rest of his clothes face-on. Kairi smirked and dropped her slip over her head, then grimaced, shifting from foot to foot as she held her dress in front of her, straightening it. She didn’t exactly want to get dressed again without washing up from their, activities, and she glanced up at Riku, already gone back to sitting on the tree, staring out across the water, then to Sora, struggling to pull his shirt back over his head.
“Um, I’m going to go clean up properly, and, uh, yeah, I’ll be back in a minute, Ok?” She began to jog, running past the smaller island, under the bridge and around the shore until she was out of sight. Glancing back once, she kicked off her underwear then quickly cleaned herself up and redressed. As she was straightening her dress properly, something in the water by her feet caught her eye. She crouched again, scooping it up to take a closer look, and found a sealed bottle, rather like the one she’d sent to Sora not too long ago. Indeed, as she peered into the glass, she could see a small rolled sheet of paper. She gasped and nearly dropped the bottle again as her eyes fell on the mark in the middle of the note, and a spark of excitement raced through her. She was grinning as she broke into a sprint back towards the boys, calling their names.

End Notes:

Well, as you might have guessed, the omitted scene was the threesome left unexplored here. If people think I ought to shape it up and get it slotted in, so to speak, let me know... though I warn, it needs even more polish than the rest of this, heheh,

Something that irked me during the games was just how much the characters said each others names, but even so I tried to preserve that in their characters while writing... Think I overdid it? I think I might have...

Anyhow, hope you enjoyed it, and that the progression wasn't too broken from being chaptered. Hope the chapters weren't too wall-of-text-ish as well, but then I worry. Please do give me some feedback on what you though, things I did poorly, things you liked, things I ought to improve, and things I should replicate... After all, quality smut if worth working for, no? At any rate, please please do let me know what you thought: lots of comments make me want to write more.
