Chapter Five: The Results
Riku and Sora walked back into the doctor's office, the silver haired teen carrying a bag from the bakery they had just eaten at, filled with the left over donuts the two had ordered but didn't finish. And the brunet, biting back a yawn as a wave of sleepiness washed over him, trudged him behind his lover. Either of them seemed to notice the confused, surprised, and just plain shocked stares they were receiving from the medical staff as they made their way up to the counter to request to see the doctor again for Sora's test results.
Just before Sora could open his mouth to greet the nurse sitting behind the counter, the door into the back popped open, "Oh good, you two are back." She said, holding a chart and looking more than a little flustered, "Come right along and the doctor will consult you about your test results." She said, ushering the boys into the back and into an examining room once more before she hurried out of the room, closing the door behind her.
After setting the bag with their bakery goods in it on the counter, Riku dropped down into a chair, wishing the doctor would hurry up and let them know what was making his lover ill. "I didn't like the look the nurse gave us." He muttered, cupping his check while he perched his elbow on the arm rest.
Sora shrugged, sitting on the padded examining table, "Maybe a patient has them stumped." He suggested.
Riku shook his head, "Who knows, I just wish that doctor would hurry up so we could find out what's wrong with you." He said, sitting back in his chair, crossing his arms as a frown graced his face.
No sooner than Riku had finished speaking, the door opened once more to reveal the doctor. The doctor looked at both boys, a look of pure confusion and astonishment written on his features as he walked in and closed the door behind him, "I don't know how I'm going to put this..." He said, though it sounded like he was talking to himself rather than the two teenagers sitting across from him.
Sora blinked before frowning. Hesitation. Didn't that mean the doctor had bad news? Whatever it was, it didn't make him feel any better, that was for sure.
"You can start by telling us what's wrong with Sora!" Riku said, sitting up straighter, not in any mood to deal with doctor's at this point. Damnit, he wanted to know what was ailing his lover and he wanted to know right now!
The doctor sighed heavily, "Let me start by explaining something, okay?" He began, opening the chart he held in his hands, "There's a young lady down the hall who was also complaining of nausea, stomach pains, and cramps. We ordered the same tests for both her and Sora, but we ordered one test for her that we didn't order for Sora. But, we mixed up the tests and gave Sora the one we were suppose to give her."
Riku blinked, arching his eyebrow at the doctor, "And, what test was that?" Though, he wasn't all too sure he wanted to hear the answer based on the look the doctor was now giving them.
The Doctor rubbed his nose, sitting on the corner of his desk, "A pregnancy test." He mentioned, "Before you boys just pass it off as though nothing happened, hear me out." He said, holding up his hands, "You both know that if a male was given a pregnancy test, it wouldn't work."
He paused, staring at the two, thinking of a way to break this to them, "Well...it worked on Sora."
A good solid minute of silence passed in the room as the doctor stared at the two boys piece together what he was trying to tell them.
Sora frowned, "Wait...are you trying to say that I'm...." His voice drifted off and he shook his head, "No...that's just not possible, I'm a boy for God's sake."
"What are you trying to say, doctor? Sora's carry a child?" Riku asked, giving the doctor a look which could only be interpreted as 'how high are you?'
The doctor nodded, "That's exactly what I'm trying to say." He paused, looking straight at Riku, "And, I'm assuming you're the father?"
"Yes..." Riku began before slapping himself on the head, "I mean, no! Sora's can't get pregnant. He's a boy!"
The doctor snorted, "I've only gone to the very best med school and have been practicing here for nearly thirty years...yes, I have no idea how to read a pregnancy test." He replied sarcastically.
Riku blinked slowly, then... laughed. An edgy laugh, bordering on hysteria. "That's not possible. That's not even close to being funny. Now.. let's do this again and tell us what's really wrong with him."
Sora, who had been quiet up until this point, gave a small nearly inaudible squeak, "My mom's going to kill me..." He said, wide eyed as he looked up at the doctor and then to Riku, "We are so dead!"
Riku shook his head, "No, no we're not. Because there's some mistake here." He said, shaking his head, looking at the doctor, "Now tell us what's really wrong with Sora!"
The Doctor sighed, "Would you like to see the test results yourself, sir? Sora is very much pregnant." He said, "The common signs of pregnancy are morning sickness which shows up in the first trimester accompanied by cravings and possible mood swings."
Biting down on his lower lip hard enough to draw blood, Riku merely glared at the doctor, instead of throttling him like he wanted to. He glanced over at the Sora, then back to the doctor. He shook his head, still not believing the doctor to be telling the truth. "You mixed up the tests," he nodded.
The Doctor shoved the chart into Riku's hands, "Look at it. I tested his blood twice." He said, "You're going to be parents."
"But...no..." Riku said, shaking his head, staring at the chart, "This can't be right...there has to be a mistake..."
The doctor stood, "Look, if you don't believe me, but an EPT test and let Sora take it. I'll bet my degree that it'll come up positive." He said, "But, you should consider telling your parents before he starts showing."
"Wait...how did you know about me being... you know... with Sora?" Riku interrupted the doctor rudely. Not that he believed him about Sora being pregnant. Nope. It just wasn't physically possible for men to get pregnant.
"You just told me right then." The Doctor said, glancing at his chart once more, "Though to be sure I could always do a DNA test on the unborn baby, that'd tell me for sure." He said thoughtfully, "See what happens when you don't use protection?"
"We're both guys," Riku growled, annoyed with the doctor, glaring at him. "Using protection is a moot point because guys aren't supposed to get pregnant."
"Well, apparently Sora can." He replied, "Now, I'm referring him to an OBGYN and I suggest that he goes whether or not you believe that he's pregnant. Prenatal care if very important."
Irritated, Riku stood, hands on hips, and glared down at the doctor. "Okay then Mr. Know-It-All Doctor, tell me how it happened? And don't give me that bullshit about the birds and the bees... I've know where babies come from for a long time... What I want to know is how was it possible for Sora to get pregnant."
The Doctor shook his head, extremely close to slamming his own head into the wall, "How in the hell am I suppose to know? Sora is the first male in history to get pregnant."
"Gee thanks, I feel soooo much better now." Turning to face his lover, Riku gave Sora a look filled with growing panic. "You're mother is going to kill me."
Sora gave another squeak, "We are in so much trouble!"
The doctor gave another sigh, "I'll leave you two to it then. Just stop by the front desk to get the papers for your OBGYN." He said before leaving the room.
"What are we going to do?" Sora asked, his voice high pitched as he looked at his lover, "I never expected this to happen...my mom...my dad...oh God Riku! They'll disown me...!"
Riku stood, embracing his lover, "Everything will be fine. I don't know what we're going to do, but we'll figure something out," he replied solemnly, on the verge of a panic attack. "We need to talk to my brothers. They might know how to help. Maybe my dad too... I think he knows about us, but I'm not a hundred percent sure about that."
Sora leaned into his lover's embrace, sighing deeply, "At least the morning sickness will pass..." He said dryly.
Riku pulled away, but still held the brunet as he looked down at his lover. "I don't know how this happened, but... I'm sorry Sora."
"It's alright." Sora said softly, "I never thought I'd be able have kids..."
"Neither did I," Riku admitted. "Well, not biological anyway. I had given some thought to maybe adopting some day. But much farther down the road and only after we'd discussed it together of course."
Sora smiled softly at that, looking up at his lover, "Well, we won't have to now." He said, ever the optimist. The way he saw it, after the shock had worn off...for now anyway cause he still had to tell his parents, he'd be able to give Riku something he wouldn't have dreamed possible; his own children, from both of them.
"No," Riku agreed. That definitely wasn't a sin. "But you know that when everyone finds out about us that they're going to say that we're going to burn in hell for sodomy. Everyone save my brothers and father that is. And then they're going to crucify me for corrupting you."
Sora sighed, "People were bound to find out about us sooner or later." He pointed out, "If they don't like it, then we can live without them." He paused, grinning slightly, "I wasn't very innocent to begin with."
"I would have preferred later. Much later...like when we were two countries and an ocean away from your mother." Riku paused to raise an eyebrow. "Touching yourself once while thinking of me doesn't exactly make you a deviant, Sora."
Sora snorted softly, "So not what my priest said..." He muttered softly, a pout on his face. He had said so many ‘Hail Mary’s’ over that confession it wasn’t even very funny.
"It doesn't really matter what the priest said," Riku said. "Everyone's going to say it's my fault because..." Riku sighed and dropped to his knees in front of Sora, laying his head in his lover's lap. "I'm older. I should have known better. I'm a bad influence and ... you're much too impressionable and I've tainted you. That's what they're going to say. I can practically hear them screaming already."
Sora sighed, tangling his hands in his lover's scalp, "But, I don't blame you. That's what's important right?" He replied softly, "I don't care what anybody else says."
"I guess so," Riku replied quietly. "As long as you don't allow them to take you away from me. Because... they're likely going to try and separate us."
Sora nodded, "They can't separate us. Whether they like it or not, you're the father of my baby. They'll have to get over it." He said, blushing lightly, still getting used to the idea of being able to carry a child and that child being Riku's.
"Oh my God," Riku gasped and looked up with wide eyes. "I'm going to be a father. We're going to have a baby. I think... I'm going to be sick..." Jumping up, Riku ran from the examination room to the bathroom.
Sora blinked, watching his lover empty his stomach with a pout on his face, "Hey, isn't that my job?" He said teasingly before he pushed himself off of the examination table and walked to the bathroom across the hall, "Are you all done?"
"Yeah," Riku groaned, leaning back against the wall. "I just had one too many donuts..."
Sora chuckled softly, "Come on, let's get out of here." He said, holding his hand out for his lover.
Riku nodded in agreement, "Lets." He said, taking the offered hand before leading his lover out of the back room and back to the front desk so they could pick up Sora's card for his next appointment along with the information for his new OBGYN.
Riku and Sora walked back into the doctor's office, the silver haired teen carrying a bag from the bakery they had just eaten at, filled with the left over donuts the two had ordered but didn't finish.
