Chapter Five
Link snapped awake and looked around him. It was dark.
"What the..."
Link sniffed the air, noticing it was awfully musty, as well. Where on Earth was he?
He looked down at his feet, and noticed a green weed growing there. He leaned back against the rock he had been sleeping by, and plucked it.
He needed to think. When he was on his quest, he realized the therepuetic effects of smoking this weed. It grew all over Hyrule.
Reaching into his bag, which must have been magic, for no matter what was put into it it never got full, he pulled out his old lamp and a small wooden pipe. Packing it full of the weed, he lit it with the lamp, laid back, and smoked.
"That's better..now, let's see here..where am I?" he thought. The last thing he remembered was...Zelda. He had been in the garden with Zelda! But now he appeared to be in some kind of woods. And he'd had a nightmare, judging from the sweat that had drenched his body. Zelda and the sword..blood, and violence, and death! The killing! What did it all mean?
He took a long drag, watching smoke float out of his mouth and drift lazily through the air. he he came here in his sleep? Was he sleepwalking now? He shook his head.
Looking around, he noticed something odd. This place looked just a little too familiar. The air, the trees..even the rocks and plants. He'd been here before.
Realization hit him like a falling boulder on Death Mountain. He put out his pipe and quickly stood, scanning where he sat. His eyes went wide, and his words were choked before they could get out.
"B..By the..goddesses!"
He was in the Vale of the Master Sword! And the rock he had been sleeping by was no rock. No, it was a part of the pedestal where the sword rested.
A pedestal now in odd sized pieces of broken stone. With an intricately carved and brilliantly burnished sword lying on the ground before it.
Link walked up and kneeled before the pedestal. There it was..the Master Sword. Somehow wrested from it's eternal slumber. Li ent entire body shook, and he took the sword in hand. Cradling it, he rocked back and forth, asthe the Sword was a newborn child.
"What have I done?" Link whispered. He did not know...but he began to realize there was more wrong with him than he had thought. Something was terribly wrong.
Sheathing the Master Sword across his back, he turned slowly towards the entrance to the Vale. He had to leave..he had to find help. He'd head to Kakariko Village, to see old Sahasrahla, the Elder. He would certainly know what to do.
Letting out a long and anguished cry, Link ran.
