Chapter Three

Daxter paced up and down HQ. He had done it once. He succeeded once before and saved his best buddy Jak. Jak didn’t move. He stayed sitting in one spot. His two halves were talking. (Jak Dark Jak)

“She needs to get out of there.”

“That Errol with pay. They will ALL PAY.”

“What is that? That feeling I get whenever you think of her?”

“Instincts. It’s the instincts to take a mate. Her scent is so overpowering. It fills the room. Fills the entire city!” Jak suddenly began sniffing. He could smell something. It overpowered his senses, as the smell clogged his mind. “That is HER scent. Smell how powerful it is? No one else will be able to smell it. It is calling out to us. We are meant for her.”

“But does she think so? We aren’t just gonna go up to her, kiss her and claim her. She seems like too much of a free spirit. Also I think she would shoot us for trying.” He chuckled.

“True but I will make my voice known, my presence known. We have to find a way to get her out.” (end of Dark Jak/Jak talking)

“Um Jak?” Jak looked at his little friend. “Do you know that you were uh… Talking out loud… To yourself?” Jak blinked a few times and looked around the room. He saw Sig and Torn looking at him. They wouldn’t stop. He gave a low growl and all but Daxter looked away.

“Let’s go to Hip Hog Heaven and see if Krew has any information on the Jail.” Jak walked up the stairs while Daxter quickly took his place on Jak’s shoulder.

“Uh Buddy? What was that all about back in HQ?” Jak got onto a hovercraft.

“The Dark side has a mind of it’s own. It talks to me. It thinks. It is so confusing sometimes. I have two minds in one body. He takes control when I get angry or I’m fighting. I can’t control it.”

“You should try Yoga. Balance your mind and body. Or should I say, minds.” Daxter joked trying to lighten his buddy’s mood. They rode in silence until Daxter spoke again. “In the two years I tried to get you out, I was also looking for Keira and ‘Old Green Stuff’. I haven’t been able to find them.” He felt Jak stiffen. Keira. She was the woman that he had fallen for when they were back in Sandover Village. She was the innocent daughter of Samos the Sage, who also happened to be a mechanic. “Through those two years, I kept looking. Maybe they landed in a different world.”
“I hope it is better than this one.”

***Ruean’s POV***
It felt warm. Death was supposed to be cold. I opened my eyes to see Green Eco seep through the pars on the cell door. Someone was healing the physical pain. I was able to move again. “Who are you? Why do you heal me? Why not let me die?” I heard an old man reply.

“I am Samos. The life energy of the world told me of your unnecessary suffering. What is your name child?”

“Why would Green Eco want me healed? I communicate with metal heads and Dark Eco courses through my veins. I have no name. I am not who I was.”

“Child what he did to you was not your fault.” Why the hell was this guy preaching to me? Sure he was in the cell next to me. Probably heard the entire thing. Why did he feel the need to add his ‘words of wisdom’ to me? I didn’t need them. I didn’t’ speak for a long while. Soon two guards dragged me off to he machine that made me who I was. This pain wasn’t as bad as the pain HE put me through.

The dark eco raced through me. Poking each nerve in my body with white-hot prods. Soon. The pain will stop. The eco will stay but the pain will stop. I could feel the strength but I was too weak to even lift my head let alone open my eyes.

“Bio readings nominal and unchanged.” A mechanical female voice spoke. I heard Errol speak.

“Maybe it was only that boy who could handle it. He may have looked like us but he came from the sky. He isn’t of this world. She looks like she is about to die right here.”

“Maybe she could have had the strength to live if you didn’t try to break her your way. A room with no window, no sense of time, chained to the wall so not even able to move would have broken her but kept her strength.” I heard the Baron’s rough voice. “Put her back in her cell for now. If she lives through the night, try breaking her that way.” I hear his footsteps leave. Errol grabs my hair lifting my head.

“Hear that? You in a closed room with you chains and no window. No one will be able to hear you scream. Except me. I love it when you scream, you little slut.” I was dragged back to my cell. I passed Samos’s cell. I looked over to see his eyes. Understanding my pain, as if he felt it himself. They were sad eyes. I was tossed into my cell. I uttered one thing to him before darkness washed over me.

“My name is Ruean.” Blackness.
