Chapter 4

Riku was regretting his behaviour towards Sora before he could even reach the water. He let out a sigh and turned around, walking back. The brunette boy stood in the same position, and let his eyes rest on his feet. Hesitantly Riku placed his other hand on Sora's shoulder, giving it a light squeeze.

"Sora... I'm sorry." The older boy spoke, meeting Sora's blue eyes. "I didn't mean to snap at you." Riku apologised, looking
regretful. Sora's lips turned up into a smile, and he gave the older boy an approving nod.

"I just had a little argument with dad... Nothing for you to worry about." Riku confessed, not wanting to lie to Sora when he knew the boy wouldn't believe him anyway. Sora narrowed his eyes, inspecting Riku's bruised lip. He raised one brow, meeting the older boy's emerald eyes. 'A little argument he says?' Sora thought in his mind, letting out a sigh. Riku noticed the worried look on the brunette boy's face and decided to take Sora's mind elsewhere.

"Come on, Sora! I'll race you! The last one in the water's a rotten egg!" Riku laughed, pushing Sora aside, and dashed towards the shoreline.

"H-hey! No fair! False start, Riku!" Sora exclaimed, running after his friend. By the time the brunette boy reached the clear
water, Riku hareadready dived under the surface. Kairi, Selphie and Tidus were laughing at Sora, splashing water on him.

"Stop! Stop! My skin is still dry! Feels cold!" the brunette boy cried, running back to the shore, away from his friends. As the laughing subsided, Sora noted Riku was still under water. He felt a wave of panic strike him, and made his way back into the water, looking around. The others noted Sora's concern, realizing he was looking for the silver-haired boy. Time passed, but there was no sign of Riku. Just when Sora was preparing to dive, the older boy returned to the surface, letting his lungs fill with air. Sora closed his eyes, feeling relieved.

"Phew! Almost ran outta air, but I got it." Riku sighed, a satisfied smile on his lips. Sora narrowed his eyes, the previous worry turning into anger. Riku swam to Kairi and gave the girl a big white seashell.

"Here, you can make a necklace out of this."

The brunette girl let out a gasp, her blue eyes wide. "Riku! It's beautiful! Thank you so much!" she exclaimed, her petite face showing nothing but happiness.

"So stupid..." Sora suddenly hissed, his angry tone surprising the others. The silver-haired boy frowned in confusion, meeting Sora's narrowed eyes.

"Huh? What's your problem?" he asked as Sora swam closer.

"You're always doing reckless and stupid things like that! I hate it! I-I thought you were gonna drown, Riku." Sora spoke, still sounding angry. The frown on the older boy's face turned into a cocky smile.

"Hah! Not a chance! I'm the best diver on the island, Sora, and you know it." Riku bragged, not really understanding Sora's
behaviour, thinking the younger boy was over-reacting.

"Yeah, that's true." Selphie commented, a smile on her lips, the others soon agreeing with her. Sora just turned his back and
started swimming towards the beach.

"Whatever, Riku. But I'm telling you, your arrogance and recklessness will be your downfall one day."

Riku frowned, feeling slightly insulted by Sora's words. "Hey! I'm not arrogant!" The others were snickering behind Riku's back, pulling straight faces as the silver-haired boy turned around, giving them a death-glare. "I'm not." he repeated, then followed Sora to the beach. The younger boy was sitting on the hot sand, drying himself with a fluffy towel. Riku sat down next to Sora, his silvery strands dripping water down his torso. They were quiet for a while. Sora was obviously sulking, using his towel to dry himself. Riku kept glancing to Sora's direction, wondering what had got into the younger boy.

"It's the seashell, isn't it?" Riku finally spoke, breaking the silence. Sora turned his head, meeting his friends emerald eyes, a confused look on his face.

"Huh?"

"You're jealous because I gave Kairi the seashell." The silver-haired boy continued, a faint smile on his lips. "I didn't know you wanted it too, Sora. It's just a stupid seashell."

"What!? Riku, I couldn't care less for the damned shell! I meant what I said. Sometimes you can be so--- so foolhardy. You
never take heed from anyone's warnings. Sooner or later something's bound to happen to you..." Sora stood up. "I was worried about you! You're my best friend and-- and, well... umm..." Sora stammered, losing his words. Riku smiled inwardly, thinking the younger boy was adorable. He stood up, forcing the brunette to meet his eyes.

"Your boyfriend." He completed Sora's lost sentence, giving the spiky-haired boy a loving smile. Sora blinked his eyes, the anger already subsiding.

"You don't have to worry about me. And we'll always be together Sora, I promise. Nothing can part us." Riku swore, twining his arms around Sora, pulling the smaller boy closer. Sora let out a content sigh, almost leaning into the silver-haired boy's embrace, but then realised they weren't alone. He glanced to his left, feeling relieved as he noticed Kairi, Selphie and Tidus weren't paying any attention to them , being too busy splashing in the water. Sora let his eyes wander up to the sky, noting there were dark, menacing rain-clouds approaching from the east. He pulled back from Riku's arms, waving his hands, calling for his friends in the water. Riku, too, noted the clouds, realising a storm was approaching.

"Damn. A rain-delay. Better head back before the waves get too high."

The first raindrops were already falling down from the dark sky as all five of them got up from their rowing-boats. Riku offered the two girls his hand, helping them up to the pier.

"I hate rainy season." Kairi cu, na, narrowing her blue eyes at the now darkened sky. "It always rains when I'm having fun."

"Doesn't bother me!" Selphie giggled, doing a little rain-dance, catching raindrops with her mouth.

"I agree with Kairi." Sora informed, pulling his hood up. "It's boring when you're forced to stay indoors." Riku came to walk beside him, looking down to meet Sora's eyes, a meaningful look on his wet face.

"Not necessarily..." Sora felt ush ush creep on his face as he understood the hidden meaning of the older boy's words. Riku's mind was already ten steps ahead, thinking of all the things he could do with Sora once they were in his room. His daydreaming ended quickly, when he heard a familiar voice call his name.

"Riku..."

The silver-haired boy froze as he saw his father stand before them. He was wearing his fishing uniform, meaning he had probably just got back from a fishing trip. His father was the best and most respected fisherman on the island.

"Time to go home, son."

Riook ook a step forward, narrowing his emerald eyes. "No. I'm going to Sora's." He said firmly. His father seemed to disagree, even if the man tried to look as nice as possible.

"Now, now, son, don't be stubborn. Lets go." His father said, taking a hold of Riku's arm, forcing him to move. The silver-haired boy started walking, a scowl on his face. He just waved his hand, not turning around to say good bye to his friends. Sora watched Riku's retreating back, feeling worry and anger boil inside him. The others were all quiet, Kairi and Selphie hiding behind Tidus' back.

"Talk about scary..." Selphie finally commented.

"Yeah. That man gives me the creeps!" Kairi agreed. "I hope Riku's gonna be okay." she added, as they made their way out from the harbour.
