Girl Talk

Chapter 3
Girl Talk
(vanilla)

Sheena found Colette trailing her fingers in the estuary and humming to herself. “Good morning,” the ninja called, startling the other girl.

“Good morning, Sheena,” Colette replied, blushing a little at her memories.

The Summoner sat down on the bank beside her and splashed some water on her face. “We certainly got lit up last night, wouldn’t you say?”

Colette tried to think of a reply, but could only edge away from Sheena. Her friend noticed and spat out a mouthful of water. “Is there something wrong?”

“I’m sorry!” Colette blurted.

Apologizing again. How typical. Sheena just raised an eyebrow. “Sorry for what?”

“For…kissing you last night!”

“That’s odd, because I seem to recall it was ME kissing YOU. So if anyone should apologize, it would be me. But I’m not going to,” Sheena said tartly.

“You’re not?” Colette asked. Does this mean…

“Why should I, for something I wanted to do? And for something we both enjoyed? Unless you’re saying you didn’t enjoy it…” she deliberately left hanging.

Colette smiled. “I definitely did. I just wasn’t sure…”

“…if I like you the same way?” Sheena continued.

Colette looked at her hands bashfully. “Yeah. I thought you liked Lloyd.”

“I do. And so do you, Colette.”

“But isn’t that odd?” the girl asked, so very cute in her naïvety.

“Perhaps. But would you rather we fight over him? And this way we gain a lot more,” Sheena said, caressing her friend’s cheek. Colette closed her eyes, delighting in the contact, and surprised at her own delight. “No more apologies, okay?”

“Okay,” Colette said brightly. And then she leaned in for a gentle kiss, much to the happiness of Sheena. The blonde girl held her friend’s hand and began to lead her back to the camp. “Let’s go wake up Lloyd.”

Lloyd, of course, was already awake, and getting their gear ready for departure and watching the omelets over the fire. “Good morning, ladies,” he called, trying to exude a confidence he didn’t really feel. He did not fail to notice the girls holding hands nor how happy and relaxed they seemed this morning, despite the lingering hangovers all three still had.

“Lloyd,” Colette began, then bit her lip and looked to Sheena for support, who nodded encouragingly. “We’ve decided we don’t want you coming between us.”

Sheena immediately started choking on laughter at the Chosen’s words. “Not at first, anyway,” she corrected, winking at Lloyd.

“Uhh,” Lloyd said intelligently. “Just what are you two talking about?”

Sheena rolled her eyes. “What she means, dork, is that, if you want, we’re both going to…date you,” she finished, staring at the ground and squeezing Colette’s hand.

Lloyd started to grin. “Of course I want to! You mean I get TWO girlfriends? And not just any girls,” he said, more seriously. “The two of you mean more to me than anyone I know.”

The girls were all smiles as they rushed to hug him tightly. The first obstacle had been passed. They were off on a new journey, a harder and more extraordinary one than anything they had yet known.
