Chapter Three
"I don't like this." Zaba said. No, he didn't like it at all. Meeting the enemy on the battle field was one thing, but to attack defenseless farmers was just wrong. Even Tibol, his faithful pet wolf, was uneasy about what had happened. When he saw the warrior, he decided to let the man go. He knew that the human didn't stand a chance against Jukfel and his crazed bunch of troops, but the man would not fall on his blade today.
Zaba waited until he thought that everything be safely over, and then headed back to the center of town. If it could called a town."Four families, does not make it a town." the troll thought to himself. Zaba felt the sting of guilt, feeling that this raid was dishonorable. He knew that his tribe would be greatly disappointed that he participated in this, but he had needed the money that he would get for joining in the raid.
Once he got back to the "town center", Zaba found that everything was not over. He saw the final battle of the human man that he let go. When the foot soldiers tied his limbs to the mounts to be drawn and quartered Zaba wanted to be sick. He was then shocked, when a tiny slip of a girl came out of the last home still standing, wielding a old rusty blunderbuss. He was surprised by the bravery that she showed, even though she was clearly not any good with the gun and was sorely outnumbered. He saw that Maryann, the undead mage, was gearing up to cast a frost bolt at the girl. As much as he wanted to , he could not stick out his neck to save the human. Zaba was too smart for that.
She was knocked down by the bolt and laid there dazed for a few moments, her shot going wild. Jukfel stalked over to the prone woman and grabbed a fist full of her long chestnut coloured hair. dragging her to her feet. Jukfel, had another idea for the woman, besides killing her and ending her suffering . He was going to let the men have her, to relieve their pent up sexual frustrations. Despite the fact that there was a woman in the ranks, they were all eager to have at the petite human woman. "Not that anyone would want to fuck that undead bitch." Thought Zaba, "They're all too afraid that their dicks will fall off if they fuck her."
The pretty girl was dragged into the house she came from by one of the foot soldiers and the rest of the troops stayed outside to watched the human man be torn apart by the mounts. Zaba was kind of glad that the girl was taken inside and didn't have to watch the man die. It was a horrible death, but at least it was over quickly for the human. He wished he could say the same for the girl. She was in for a world of hurt.
Then he heard a crash inside the house. He looked to see if anyone else was going to investigate, but when he saw that everyone was too busy raging at all the blood and gore from the human, Zaba decided to see what was going on.
Zaba found the foot soldier sprawled across the bed and a broken piss pot on the bed next to his head. The girl was gone. But her clothes that he saw her wearing were on the floor and torn to shreds. The window where she escaped was still opened. Which meant she was out there naked. He shook his head and he laughed. "Good for you girl, run and don't stop." he said out loud. Hopefully she'll make it to another town. Zaba then went out side to tell Jukfel that the girl got away. Needless to say Jukfel wasn't happy about loosing his new fuck toy, but he didn't have time to go find her. He was supposed to be in the Alterac Mountains by week's end. Zaba decided that this was the time to part ways from the contingent and informed Jukfel that he would be leaving that night. He took the money owed to him and left immediately.
It wasn't a conscious decision, but Zaba soon found himself and Tibol following the path that the girl left behind. "Stupid girl, do you want to get caught?!?" he thought angrily. He kept following her trail, not really knowing what he would do when he found her. But Tibol had her scent, so Zaba let him run with it.
They came to a clearing that had a little pond, and the wolf lost the scent. It was dark so Zaba couldn't see to get any tracks, or see the small cave that Lina was hiding in. He decided to set up camp for the night. He lit a fire to cook some bear meat that he had, cutting off some of the scraps for Tibol, as a reward for doing a good job tracking the girl this far. After they ate, Zaba put out the fire, laid out his bed roll and rested his head on Tibol's side as a pillow. Falling asleep quickly.
Close to dawn, a strangled cry woke him from his light slumber. Sitting up and turning towards the direction that the cry came from, he discovered the cave that Lina was hiding in. He quietly stalked over to the mouth of the cave and found the girl wrapped in a damp, and now dirty blanket, shaking and sweating profusely. He could tell even from where he was that she freezing and was sick with fever, and that it disturbed her dreams. He didn't want to frighten the girl any more than she already had been, so Zaba decided to let her wake on her own. He wasn't sure where he would go from there. For now she needed to rest. The rest would sort itself out later.
