The Mysterious Tea Set

“My, what an opulent house.” Layton marveled at the manor before him. The building was three stories tall and had gold trim all over it. The windows were large, elaborate, and many.
He followed Chelmey and Barton through the massive front doors and into the house. “Inspector, where is the crime scene?” He asked as he adjusted his hat.
“Well, I’ll show you, if you shut yer yap an’ follow me.” Chelmey grunted. He and Barton led Layton through a few elaborately decorated hallways to an oaken door. Chelmey grasped the doorknob, then paused. “Layton, this ‘ere’s not a pretty sight. You best brace yourself.” He opened the door and ushered the Professor into what he assumed was a study, though far more furnished than his own.
Layton gasped. “Oh my. I can see why you didn’t want Luke to accompany us on this one.”
A woman’s body lay splayed upon a large desk, completely nude. Strangely, her face was frozen in an expression of ecstasy.
Chelmey cleared his throat. “Barton, give the professor ‘ere our information on the victim.”
“Yes, sir.” Barton whipped out a worn notebook, flipped through it, and began reading. “The victim is Denise Clearwater, 39, widow of Reginald Clearwater. She has lived in this manor alone since 3 months ago, when her husband died and left it to her. Hobbies include tea drinking-”
“That’s all I need, thank you, Barton.” The Professor approached the body slowly. “Such a privileged woman. Unlikely that she took her own life.”
“Right.” Chelmey confirmed. “There are still plenty of valuables around, also, so it’s doubtful she was robbed…”
“Did she have any enemies?”
“Probably not. ‘Ardly ever appeared in public, let alone socialized.”
“How was the body discovered?”
“Neighbor ‘eard shrieking, so she came over to investigate. We’ve already taken her statement back at the station.”
“Hmm…” Layton mused as he began to circle the body. “…Oh my goodness.”
“Was wonderin’ when you’d see that.” Chelmey said. “Suppose that was the cause of death- no self-respectin’ woman could fit something like that in… there… an’ not start bleeding like that.”
Layton looked away from the spectacle and asked, “What clues do you have?”
“Barton.” Chelmey grunted.
“Yes, sir.” Barton produced his notebook and began to read again. “One shattered blue and pink tea set, found next to the table, appears to have been pushed off; Miss Clearwater’s clothing, with several stains on the front, most likely tea; one bill of sale from “Trimmond’s Trinkets” on nearby desk, appears to be for a tea set identical to shattered one; one word “TEASE” etched into the table next to Miss Clearwater’s body.”
Layton examined the table. Indeed there were the letters T-E-A-S-E scratched haphazardly into its surface. Presumably the woman’s dying message.
“Add a T and you get…” He traced an invisible T after the final letter with his finger. “TEA SET. Hmm. It looks like her death had something to do with that tea set… Have you been to Trimmond’s Trinkets?”
“Indeed we ‘ave. Owner claimed to know nothing, though.” Chelmey growled.
“No offense, inspector, but you tend to come off a bit… Gruff.” Layton smiled. “Perhaps we should revisit the establishment… And let me do the talking.”
