Chapter 2

She could tell he thought she was asleep. She could feel his eyes on her face. But in truth she had just needed to close hers to process what had just happened. As Shepard’s fingertips ran lightly over her cheek, her neck, shoulder and arm she felt a smile creep onto her face. She heard him chuckle.

“Faker,” he said quietly.

She opened her eyes to look at him. His face was close to hers and she brought her hand up to rest on his cheek. He had a small bit of stubble, hadn’t shaved in a day or two. Somehow he’d managed to keep it from rubbing on her sensitive skin when he went down on her, something she was thankful for. The feeling of sandpaper wasn’t sexy. What Shepard had done to her was. She thought about it for just a second, remembering his soft lips and tongue on her. She ran her thumb over those lips.

“I’m not tired,” she joked, her eyelids heavy. “Hell I’m ready for round two.” Shepard let out a short laugh. He knew she was tired. She was exhausted. Aside from the grueling work they’d been doing, Ashley realized she’d just had some of the most amazing sex of her life. Her orgasms had been pretty epic. They’d taken a lot out of her. She let her own hand wander along the skin of her new lover – across his strong jaw line, down his practically hairless chest, over his hard abs and down until she reached the neat patch of dark hair just above her new favorite part of him. Even through her exhaustion she felt her body respond as she traced the ticklish area just to the side of it. She saw him tense slightly.

He grabbed her hand and moved it up next to her head, rolling her onto her back. He pressed her hand into the bed next to her and his fingers wrapped around hers. His top half hovered above her now as he looked down at her.

The corner of his mouth turned up in the small crooked smile that had made her crazy for him to begin with. “Round two, huh? Trying to kill me, chief?” he asked.

She giggled, noticing the particularly dominant position he’d put himself in. He liked being in charge in the bedroom. She could tell. But he’d seemed just as happy to let her lead. Some men couldn’t do that. It threatened them, but not Shepard. He was an amazingly attentive, confident lover. His touch was assertive and firm, but also gentle, soft. Rather than command, it simply requested fervently. He communicated what he wanted clearly with the way he moved, the way he held her, and his occasional quiet groans of approval. He was a man who knew what he wanted, and he seemed to know exactly what Ash had wanted as well. In truth, their lovemaking had played out almost exactly as she had imagined it over and over in her mind; intense, intimate, sweet and dizzying.

“Not much chance of that.” She finally said. You have me at a disadvantage.” He noticed the pinned position he had her in and smiled again. His eyes held real, true affection. She’d seen it in them before. This night had been a long time coming. Their feelings for each other had revealed themselves slowly over the past many months, but they had been unmistakable. It felt good to finally be with him. It felt familiar. Right.

“For once,” Shepard said. His skin pressed against hers. She felt his soft, warm member pressed against her leg. He was big, but thankfully not more than she could handle. He was perfect. Delicious. Ash thought about the first time she’d seen his body, just after the beacon on Eden Prime in the med bay. Since then she could hardly be within a few feet of him without hoping he would throw her down and ravage her.

He released her hand from the mattress next to her and she ran it up the length of the arm that was bracing him over her. She went slow, savoring the feeling of his hard muscles, his broad shoulders. When her hand ended up on his cheek she left it there, running her thumb across one of the scars she had memorized.

“I’m glad you’re here,” he said quietly. Simple, truthful, refreshingly non-flowery words.

Ash smiled. “So am I.”

They shifted then to a spoon position, Shepard behind Ash, his warm chest pressed against her back, his arm draped over her. She shivered when he kissed her neck.

“Get some sleep,” he whispered.

“Yes sir,” She smiled. And then she passed out.
