Chapter Rating: PG-13 (Zomg! Violence!)
Julie-Su ended up leading him to a humongous room filled with dark robed soldiers chowing down on lunch. Many of them wore their hoods down so they wouldn’t get their uniforms dirty. The younger ones didn’t appear to have that much metal on their faces as the older soldiers did. Knuckles decided he’d ask why that was to Julie-Su later. “Hey, go find a place to sit down while I’ll fetch us something to eat!” she proclaimed kissing him on the cheek before skipping off. Knuckles sighed as he watched her happily set off about her new quest as he sat down by an almost empty table near the entrance. Deep down he knew the only reason she was happy right now was because he was here looking after her. He had found out about how she was locked up in prison with her foster parents after being kidnapped. He didn’t blame her one bit on her trying to talk him out of joining up with Dimitri’s thugs. Knuckles blushed as he raised his hand to touch the part of his face where Julie-Su had just kissed him moments ago. A plate of food suddenly appeared before him as Julie-Su set it on the table and pulled up a chair. “I know it’s not what you’re used to, so I picked up the best they had to offer,” she said as she handed him a fork.
“Thanks…” he blankly stared at the foreign substance in front of him. He had no clue what it was, or even if it was safe to eat. “Um…Julie-Su? What is this exactly,” he stated as he poked it with his fork.
“Hahaha! Good question! It’s a type of dinner pie. I don’t know what they put in it exactly, but it was always good when I tried it,” she said nervously.
Knuckles shrugged at the thought and took a bite. He immediately wished he didn’t! He closed his eyes and shuttered at the taste, and quickly grabbed his glass of water to drink it down.
“Eh…what’s wrong with it?” Julie-Su then proceeded to take a small bite of it herself and spit it out in her napkin! She apparently forgotten how Legionnaire food tasted compared to the all-natural ones she ate on Angel Island. ”UGH! What did they do to it? I swear some things never taste as good as they look anymore!” She quickly scooted the bowl to the side and slumped down on the table. “I’m sorry, Knuckles. I’ll try to pick a better one next time.”
He smiled at her calmly. She was so cute no matter what mood she was in, and decided not to get upset about missing lunch. “That’s fine. Dimitri has a kitchen in his own private complex, right? I’ll just cook us something up for an early dinner!”
Julie-Su got a huge grin on her face at that idea. She had forgotten all about Dimitri’s complex, which they were invited to be stay at. It was a big relief to find out that they wouldn’t have to sleep on those hard bunks like when she was in the army, and when the Grandmasters were away they’d have the place all to themselves. Plus, men who could cook were a big turn on for her! Julie-Su giggled and winked at him, “Sounds like a plan to me!” They both sat for a few minutes gathering up their thoughts on what they would cook that night, when suddenly Knuckles’ stomach decided to growl again even louder than before. What Knuckles was really craving was a big bowl of grapes. The image of it replacing the bowl of disgusting pie flooded his mind, and then with a poof of smoke the real thing appeared before him. Causing Knuckles and Julie-Su to jump back a bit in surprise at the sudden transformation, and not to mention everyone else at that table. “WOW!” How’d you do that, Knuckles?”
“I-I don’t know! I just thought about it and it happened!” he exclaimed a bit frightened at his new found ability. By then most of the Legionnaires sharing the table had gotten up to leave after finding out exactly whose company they shared. Julie-Su just plain ignored their rudeness, and decided to try one of the grapes herself before Knuckles could protest.
“Mmmmm…they’re delicious! Knuckles, you have to try one!” She quickly plucked a grape from the stem and held it up for him to bite out of her hand. Knuckles was a bit taken aback by this loving gesture, but decided to comply. They both laughed after they discovered it was safe to eat. Julie-Su continued to feed it to him, because no longer did they have unwanted company sitting around the table.
“Hehehe…how precious! Out of all my years serving the Legion, I would have never expected a fine soldier like you to get soultouched to such a miserable breed of an echidna. And a Guardian at that!”
Julie-Su immediately looked up at her verbal attacker, and was about to raise hell until she noticed who it was. She accidentally dropped the grape from her fingers and feel into complete shock. It was none other than her old drill sergeant, Rykor, with a couple of cadets by his side. After remembering her last encounter with him, the looming threat of him punishing her if she decided to go traitor again was like a punch to the gut! Her eyes shot him an ice-cold glare. However, Julie-Su was just as stubborn as Knuckles was when it came to a fight, and decided it might be fun to toy with her old troop leader. If you let people walk all over you the abuse will never stop, and she was not about to accept any more of it. She pretended that the words had no effect on her, and grabbed Knuckles arm lovingly. “Oh, I don’t see what’s so bad about finding one’s true companion, or have you still not found a girl yet?” Knuckles blushed at her openly admitted affections toward him, but he was a little afraid where this was going... Rykor’s hateful words really didn’t shock him all that much, and decided to shoot him a glare to show that he meant business.
The echidna scoffed at this complement. Rykor was well known throughout the Legion as being a lover to many of the new cadets, but he had never been able to find that one special person that he was soultouched with. Ever since he met Julie-Su he knew that there was something different about her, and in the past before her betrayal had several times tried to seduce her to no avail. They’re bond was a lot stronger than he expected it to be, but it still irked him about how open they were to each other. “No, but it looks like I won't have to court marshal you after all. What a shame...I was really looking forward to our intimate moments together, but it looks like you've already found yourself a good fuck."
At this loud comment, the whole Legion within the food center seemed to turn around to see what all the commotion was about. Many of them had gotten out of their seats and formed a circle around the three, expecting a good fight. They all chanted out with Rykor’s insults, laughed, and cheered him on. “How does it feel being the Guardian’s whore?”
Knuckles slammed his fists onto the table causing it to crack underneath all the pressure! He quickly rose to his feet, staring Rykor straight in the eyes, and gave him a low growl. Rykor gingerly turned his attention from Julie-Su to him, "Ah, Guardian! I must congratulate you. Deciding to join the Legion and betraying everyone you’ve ever known? I must say you've made the right choice, traitor! Hey everyone, let’s make them feel welcome…”
All of the sudden large proportions of food began flying at the two of them from all directions, hateful cheers ringing through the air, and they both tried their best to defend themselves on the attack. “Enough!” A shock wave filtrated the room causing many of the soldiers to stop what they were doing, and scream in fear at a now brightly glowing neon green Knuckles. He quickly lunged forward at Rykor and held him up by the collar of his robe. “I’M NOT A TRAITOR!” He punched him right in his lower jaw causing him to fly forward and land sliding along the table. “And no one EVER talks trash to my girl like that,” he said as he wiped his gloves clean after doing the dirty work.
He quickly walked over to a very thankful looking Julie-Su, grabbed her hand gently, and spoke softly to her, “We’re leaving.” She got up and walked next to him not saying a word as the crowd parted to let them through, not daring to upset the powerful echidna that was before them. Rykor quickly came to his senses as he saw the two leaving out the door, and gave out a bellow of vengeance as he charged at them. “AGGHHHH!!!!” Knuckles heard what was coming next and swiftly turned around right before the attack and slugged him as hard as he could right in the face! Rykor was instantly knocked out cold as his nearly lifeless body fell to the floor with a loud thud. Several loud gasps were heard throughout the room, and Knuckles could have sworn that he saw one of the soldiers faint! “I think not would be a good time to run for it!” he whispered to Julie-Su.

Don’t EVER let people treat you like trash, or they’ll always walk over you! Once people know you are serious, believe me they will back off if they’re smart. If things get too bad though remember to always stick together in groups of friends for support. If you do get stuck in a group assault RUN AWAY! Protect yourself and your life, because some fights just aren’t worth it. I’m against violence, but sometimes people DO deserve to get their face punched in. Rykor is a perfect example. I personally always thought words were sharper than knifes though. ^__~
