Chapter Two
{Sebastian}
Faustus
was dead.
It was
happening, he was back. It had to be him, Faustus’ body has been sucked dry of
everything, the guards who found him claim that he turned to dust the minuet
they touched him he had been so dry it had been like he was made of ash.
Nothing
could have done that to a vampire except another vampire, a stronger vampire,
or even a group of younger ones who had banded together. But there had been
only signs of two figures one was Faustus the other his attacker, so that
narrowed it down to Marcus, Sebastian, Vorador and Kain. Vorador had not left
the Cabal’s sanctuary since it had been made, Marcus wouldn’t hurt his brother
and Sebastian knew he hadn’t. That left Kain.
He was
back.
Sebastian
grunted as he stalked the lower city, he kept telling himself he was here to
hunt and yet he knew that wasn’t true, he wasn’t hungry. He felt like he would
never be hungry again. The initial guilt he had felt as he had completed his
betrayal had come back full force with the news that Faustus was dead.
It proved
Kain was still alive and that he was out for blood. It was obvious that if Kain
was alive then he would want vengeance, strange really a lot of Kain’s
motivation came from vengeance, the initial destruction of the pillars this war
on man kind and now his new rampage. Sebastian kicked himself as he leapt to
another rooftop, now was not the time to play shrink.

The human
he had been following this time was the complete opposite of his kill last
night, this one was dark skinned, dark haired, dull eynd snd short. He did not
want a repeat of last night.
Once he
had finally brought himself to move he had returned home hoping the memories
would be kept at bay by the vampire sleep. But it was not to be, his entire
night had been full to bursting with memories playing out in his dreams, and he
had been powerless to stop them.
He
followed his human deeper into the lower city. Then he had awoken to the news
that his youngest brother was dead, he sighed and leapt from building to
building following his slow moving prey with little intention. This was not in
anyway going to be easy.
Perhaps he
should just give up now, end it all with a blade, even the abyss of afterlife
would be better than this Hell he now endured. It seemed that he was assaulted
with trial after trial with no hope of an end. At least in death it would be
over.
Then he
would not have to feel the guilt, he would not have to be raped and he would
not have to kill the only creature he had ever felt anything for. He paused,
waiting as his human stopped at a news vender. No, he couldn’t just give up,
Marcus would never be able to face Kain down, even if Kain was weak, no it
would have to be him.
If he was
not here to do it then the Serefan Lord would get his armoured claws deep into
Kain’s flesh. Sebastian shuddered; his Lord may want Kain dead now but he knew
that would change on seeing him, he remembered the words spoken to him when he
first joined the Serefan.
leaned over him and seemed to take a deep breath through his nose, scenting him
“you have lain with him” green glowing eyes flashed brighter “you have tasted
him. It was such a shame he was as determined as he was, I would have by far
preferred simply to keep him . . . he
would have made a most interesting toy”
No!
Sebastian would kill Kain before that creature had a chance to even see him, he
would not allow that things touch to grace pale flesh and ashen hair.
He would
follow his new Lords orders, end Kain’s rampage and then return home and end
his own suffering. Then they could be together once more.
Tonight it
would end.
It was
easy following his human deeper still into the lower city, the human emerged
into a secluded square it held only three others. One of which appeared to be a
gypsy, dressed in a similar get-up as Faustus, guilt pierced Sebastian once
again.
Burying
his guilt he leapt down, claws slicing deeply into the human’s back sending him
down to the floor in a twitching mass. The others screamed and Sebastian leapt,
sliding his claws deep into warm flesh tearing hearts out, twisting his claws
in one human’s stomach, feeling the warm pulsing life within.
A sharp
sound let him know someone was coming and he leapt upwards to avoid guards, a
lone figure entered the court yard and Sebastian smirked, dropping down for a
kill on one of the remaining humans, before speaking
“What poor
soul has the misfortune of interrupting my feeding” he snapped without turning
“One who
shares your thirst and your curse”
Oh god.
Sebastian
felt all the hairs on his arms, legs and the back of his neck stand to
attention, he was . . . right . . . behind . . . him.
This was it.
“ah a
voice from the past” Sebastian rambled quickly turning expecting to see a rage
filled expression, he was shocked to find confusion filled eyes “so the rumours
are true, Kain walks Nosgoth once again”
His hair
was a little longer than he remembered, it suited him longer. He remembered a
joke he’d once made that his Lord would appear as a woman if he continued to
grow his hair. It was not true, if anything it only made him appear wilder,
more feral and completely beautiful.
Other than
that he looexacexactly the same as the night Sebastian had left him in rage and
jealousy. His armour was identical, his stance and scent were identical
everything was the same.
Sebastian
could remember everything from the smallest most insignificant detail right up to
the most obvious and imposing. How his hair smelled and how it felt like dry
rain when he ran his fingers through it, the noises he would make when you
touched him and the way he would watch you afterwards, Sebastian felt his
breath catch in his throat.
“How do
you know me creature?” Kain snapped
Sebastian
winced, there was fear in that tone, not much but it was defiantly there, he
did not want there to be fear, he longed to hear him as he had been before,
small whispers, sarcasm and wit but buried under it all had been a sharp
affection that Sebastian longed to hear again.
He jerked
himself NO! He had to kill him, he could not survive to meet the Serefan Lord
Sebastian would not allow his previous Lord to fall to that fate.
He looked
up snarling ready to leap, but he stopped. A thin trail of blood trickled down
from somewhere in the ashen hair, flowing down around a golden eye and
continuing down an ivory cheek, Sebastian had to bit the insides of his mouth
to stop himself leaning forward, taking those few steps and licking it away.
Golden eyes met with his and instantly Sebastian felt his bones turn to noodles
and felt his head spin, heat pooled low in his belly.
< sty style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>He had to
get out of here.
“How I
wouove ove to dispatch you here and now” he hissed pleased his need didn’t
escape in his voice “yet I am required elsewhere. Goodnight.”
And with
that he bolted.
Dear gods
he was fast. Sebastian winced; no other vampire had ever been able to keep up
with him when he had used his powe mov move faster than any creature in the
world, yet Kain while not catching up completely had managed to keep Sebastian
in his sights.
Finally
giving up he turned
“How do
you like my handy work Kain” he sneered “it’s been a good nights feeding”
despite the fact he had not tasted blood this evening.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>“You’re a sloppy butcher vampire”
Kain hissed “You jeopardize your presence by such bloodletting”
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>Sebastian
winced, he knew he had been careless this evening but he had needed to do it;
he had needed the release that slaughter had given him.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>“But
it isn't my presence that's in dan Kai Kain.
It's yours” a cryptic warning, he needed Kain to stay away from the
Serefan until he had managed to bury his daemons long enough to kill him, free
him and once more be with him.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>“You
serve the Serefan, then?” Kain tilted his head to the side,
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>Sebastian
saw his muscles tense, his claws twitch. He hated the fact his once liege was
wary of him. But that was not the only emotion shame came fast and hard, almost
hard enough to send Sebastian to his knees in front of his previous Lord to beg
fornessness, to beg for oblivion to beg to be touched by him just once more.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>“I
serve no one but myself” he managed to talk without stuttering, for which he
was proud,
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>He
had always been called selfish by many; even Kain had on occasion nudged him in
his ribs and dubbed him selfish before leaping at him, rolling over and over in
what appeared a playful manner but with wicked intentions, each vying for the
dominant position.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana;mso-bidi-font-family:"Courier New"'>“I
had forgotten how much I loathe your arrogant tone, it would be a pleasure to
silence it for good we shall meet again” he snapped using the excuse to leap
almost vertically upwards and over a building where he knew Kain could not
follow.

Sebastian
collapsed against one of the larger chimneys his chest heaving despite not
actually needing to breath.
“Sweet
gods” he breathed when he’d finally got himself under control.
He wiped a
single blood tear from his cheek and leaned back against the chimney, it really
had been him, and he was real. Another tear fell. Yet he had been different,
the overwhelming anger had not been there in his eyes, instead confusion had
taken its place.
“He didn’t
know me” Sebastian whispered to no one trembling against the cold stone.
He hadn’t
been able to do it, he couldn’t rescue him, and he couldn’t protect him from
the Serefan Lord if it meant he had to kill him. But he had to.
That look,
it was THAT look, the look Kain had given him when they really had met for the
first time,
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Rain came down in steady constant
drops, enough to kill a fledgling and seriously wound and elder.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Sebastian huffed as he watched with
his brothers as a vampire leapt from outcropping to outcropping over the swamp.
A dark cloak covered it from head to toe, legs appeared and disappeared as the
creature jumped and landed.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>“It’s him” Vorador smirked,
Sebastian raised an eyebrow
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>“Truly my Lord” Magnus, Sebastian’s
only older sibling questioned. Even he doubted that such a slight looking creature
could be Kain.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>The vampire landed delicately in
front of the mansion and walked the next few steps until he was just inside the
mansion. It was here he lowered the cloaks hood and shook his hair out before
removing the soaked cloak completely.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>“Damn Rain” the fledgling muttered
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Sebastian stood aghast, that could
not be him, there was no way that could be him . . . he was little more than a
child, a fledgling younger than himself. There was no way this could be the
destroyer of the pillars.
style='font-size:8.0ont-ont-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Later that evening, Sebastian found
himself alone with Magnus in the library, the two were quiet close, he was
closer to Magnus than to either of his younger siblings as Magnus understood
things about him that the other two just didn’t.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>He and Magnus were more alike than
either would ever admit.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>The doors had opened and Vorador
had entered with Kain in toe, the younger looked board and it was obviously
Vorador was giving a tour of some sort. Sebastian smirked but Magnus had been a
little kinder and had stepped in to rescue the fledgling lest he die from
boredom.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>“I have much I would like to talk
to you about Kain” Magnus dipped his head to the pale fledgling, which
obviously saw this as a way out and nodded rapidly. Vorador smiled and took his
leave claiming weariness.
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
across from Magnus and Sebastian
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>“Think nothing of it” Magnus waved
it off easily before turning to Sebastian for a moment then continuing “I am
Magnus and this . . .” he nudged his brother “is Sebastian”
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>
style='font-size:8.0pt;font-family:Verdana'>Kain turned and smiled at him,
Sebastian felt his insides turn to mush.
