Tainted Eyes: Part II: Doors

Riku woke up bright and early, ready to start the new day. He hopped out of bed and changed into some light clothes for a morning jog. His teeth were brushed before he was out toor, oor, just in case he ran into any of his friends. (Not that anyone else got up this early.) But rather than jogging around the quiet neighborhood, he took his boat out and docked it at the beach where the teens usually gathered. His jog around the small island began, and he loved the feel of the breeze and the way the air filled his lungs. It was as though he could feel every atom in the air as it entered and left him. It was all so fresh and clean... so relaxing. There were no worries in his mind. School was out, and his friends would all be gathering at the island soon to greet him.

When his long jog was finished, he stood at the beach. Seeing no one around he stripped off his shirt and headed into the water, letting it cool him. Water... it was another thing he loved. It flowed over his body, around hody.ody. It was an amazing substance to him. And he could practically hear the sea breathe when it flowed in and out from the beach. He tilted his head up to the sun and closed his eyes as it's warmth touched his upper body. It was then that he heard whispers and giggles from behind him. He turned around to see Selphie and Kairi giggling at him.

"Booyakuh Riku! Woo hoo! Hot stuff!" called Selphie. Kairi laughed and joined in with the cat calls.

Riku grinned and walked back to the beach, and they gave a playful protest as he put his shirt back on. He was blushing slightly, but it wasn't obvious due to his blood already flowing from his jog. He was proud of his body, because he was always treating it well. He had grown taller than the other boys, and his muscles were definately more developed than most boys his age. But it was through working and helping out... through training and martial arts. Riku wasn't lazy, and he was proud that he didn't look it. But he wasn't so proud that he would show it off to people. Even when the other boys were around, the most they saw were his arms when he wore his favorite yellow tank top.

"Sorry ladies," he said with a smile, "No free shows."

"Awwww!" exlaimed Selphie with a giggle. Riku knew it was all innocent with her. Selphie was a very thin, very petite girl. Her brown hair was always flipped up at the ends, giving her the look of a little doll. She loved to giggle, and she was a romantic. But it was all a dreamy sort of romance that she imagined.

Kairi on the other hand.... He knew there was something not-so-innocent in her mind. He glanced at her for a moment to see her spunky smile. Her red hair shimmered in the sun, and her eyes were blue and bright. Wasn't it just last week that Kairi ran hengerngers through his hair and hopped onto his lap as the sun was setting? They were the only two left on the small island, and Riku made it a habit of seeing everyone off. Her hands gently moved over his strong arms, and she smiled in a way he'd never seen.

"Kairi, you should go. It's getting late, and I know your mother gets worried."

"But Riku, don't you like spending time with me?"

"Of course, but..."

"But what?" Her face was angelic, but the way she pressed herself against him was far from it.

"What if Sora sees us?"

And that stopped her. She knew that Sora liked her, and she knew that Riku knew. And at that moment she also realized that Riku knew that she couldn't decide her true feelings. But deep down she thought that he would fulfill her curiousities. Why? Perhaps because he was the oldest of them all. But he was hardly even older by a year. Perhaps it was because he looked stronger, and because he seemed so intelligent about everything. He seemed so experienced. And he threw his pride around when it came to racing or swordfighting with the other teens. But that was all for show wasn't it? It was all to taunt them into being better. Especially Sora. Riku wanted Sora to succeed. And now, it seemed that he also wanted Sora to beh heh her.

"Don't you like me, Riku?" she asked softly.

"I care for you Kairi. Which is why..." he lifted her small frame as he stood and helped her stand "...I want you to go home before the water gets too rough." He smiled at her... a genuine smile. She knew that Riku would not bring this up again.

And now here they stood on the beach. The two girls giggling at him still. He was proud that he could attract female attention, but he felt something deep down whenever it was Kairi. Sora liked her a lot, and he felt bad when she paid so much attention to anyone besides Sora.

"I have to go eat you two. I'll see you guys a little later," he said, waving goodbye to them and running off towahis his boat.

When he got back home, Sora was waiting for him at the door.

"Awww. Looks like I missed you the first time around," Sora said with a grin.

"It's okay, I wasn't gone long. You didn't eat yet did you, because my mom won't let you leave without breakfast," Riku said, shoving his friend into the house. And sure enough, Riku's mother had them at the table in three seconds flat.

"Growing boys need to eat!" she said. "You're too skinny, Sora!"

Sora only grinned and cleaned his plate. Then he chatted away with her and Riku about life in general.

After finishing, Riku showered and put on one of his yellow tank tops and his jeans and sneakers. The two boys hopped into a boat and rowed out for the island. But something wasn't right there when they climbed out. The boats of the others were there, but the others were no where in sight. Wakka's ball was floating in a shallow pool of water. Tidus' staff was broken in two and left there on the beach. Selphie's jump rope and Kairi's necklace were tangled together in the sand.

"This looks weird. do you think their playing a trick on us?" asked Sora.

Riku glanced around, hearing how eerily quiet it was. "We should look for them," he said in his usual calm tone.

The two boys glanced at each other, and with a nod, they immediately headed toward the Secret Place.

"The sound probably gets drowned out in there," Sora said softly.

They approached the entrance and heard footsteps. Sora smiled and ran in, ready to tackle anyone he saw. Riku followed close behind. But there was no one. No one was inside the cave... not even to hide or pounce. Instead, there was an open door. THAT door. The door that only Riku claimed had a keyhole... a keyhole that only he could see. That door... the one always closed since the time they had all arrived here... it was open.

"Did... did they go in there?" Sora asked nervously, looking at the dark entrance.

"One way to find out. Don't tell me you're scared!" ...But even as Riku said that... he felt something well up within him. There was something about that darkness that wasn't right. It was like there was no darkness at all. Just nothing....

Suddenly screams filled the air. But they didn't come from anywhere. It was like the sound was all around them, echoing and bouncing off the walls again and again. Both close and so far away.

"That was Kairi!" exclaimed Sora. "Let's go!" he yelled as he dashed through the door. Riku followed him in a flash.

...And the door closed slowly behind them....

Darkness fell around them... and it wasn't long before they both blacked out. When they op the their eyes again, they found themselves in what looked like a cold, leaky, jail cell, with thick bars at one wall. Sora looked up from the floor to see Kairi shaking him and Riku from their sleep.

"Ugh..." muttered Sora, "wah happened?"

"Get up!" whispered Kairi harshly. She was terrified. "We've been kidnapped."

Riku stared at the stone ceiling for a moment before sitting up. The place was a mess. There was hardly any light, and the air was thick with rot and mold. "Where are the other three?"

"Here!" Wakka's voice echoed from the dark. He sat with Selphie and Tidus in the cell across from the others. "Where are we?!"

"Who cares?!" exclaimed Kairi. "Now everyone is awake, and we have to really find a way to get out of here!"

"Can we pick the lock?" asked Sora.

"I've been trying for the last hour!" erupted Tidus' frustrated voice.

But they didn't have long to think before heavy footsteps came towards them from down the dark hall. In a flash the teens all stood at attention, ready to pounce whatever or whoever came at them. Sure, they were scared, but they needed to get out, NOW. But they weren't expecting the two tall, extremely muscular, rough-looking men that approached. They all wavered, not sure what to do at this point. Some wavered out of fear, some out of caution. But either way, it was the wiser course of action. One of the cell doors flew open, and before Sora and Riku could act, Kairi was flung out of the cell.

"Damnit! It's too dark!" cried Sora as he lunged for Kairi and hit the bars. Their cell was already closed again, and Kairi's screams were now echoing down the dark hall.

"Help me!" she screamed. "Put me down you bastards! You have no right to do this! Who are you?! WHO ARE YOU?!"

And another door was slammed. Her friends could no longer hear her.

"What the hell is goin' on?! Why did they take Kairi?!" cried Wakka.

"WHO ARE YOU?!" yelled Sora into the darkness. He turned to Riku, who was oddly quiet. Usually Riku would be there to back him up. But now.... "Riku?"

"S...S.... Sora...." Riku gasped.

"Riku?" as Sora approached him torch lights flickered on around them.

"At least they'll give us some damn light...." muttered Tidus. "And those are pretty high-tech automatic torches for this stupid musty jail."

And there was Riku, holding his arm.

"Drug...." he murmered. "Kai... ri...." he gasped, looking toward the direction she was carried off to. And he collapsed.

"They must really not like him already!" criedus aus as he ran to the bars of his cell. "One of those guys must have drugged him! Riku! Come on man!"

"No! Riku!" cried Selphie. "Wake up, Riku!"

"No...." whispered Sora. "Riku...."

In another area of this dark place, Kairi found herself thrown to the floor. She was in what appeared to be a dark bedroom or living room of some kind.

"You bastards!" she screamed. But when she looked up, they were gone. Instead, a shadowy figure stared down at her.

"Welcome," said the deep, calm voice.

"Who are you?!" demanded Kairi.

The shadowy figure only chuckled softly as he grabbed her by the throat and lifted her to her feet with inhuman strength. His free hand slid slowly up her thigh. "I am... the answer to your prayers...."
