Chapter 14
W..What's going on...?" he asked groggily. Ocelot went over to him. "We're going to make a little tape to send to Snake." he smirked. Hal blinked and tried to get away but Ocelot's firm grip on his shoulders kept his weak body where it was.
“Otacon can you hear me? Where are you?” He asked much less calm since he didn’t have Hal in his range of sight, for all he knew the man was already dead. Sunny looked a little alarmed to be ran with in someone’s arms like this. She noticed that plane again and just felt something was wrong.
Ocelot felt Hal jump slightly hearing his codec. "Tap into his frequency with the camera. I want Him to see it now." Ocelot ordered. The scientist hurried to the machine and tapped into the frequency. He gave Ocelot the signal to begin.
"Hello Snake." Ocelot said still holding Hal's shoulders.
Snake’s eye twitched a little when he heard the voice. Sunny backed away from him a little as he growled at the man. “What do you want?” he asked, not liking how that came out. But if it bought Hal time it worked. Not that he was about to give this man anything but more arm pain.
"I'd like to give you the good news." Ocelot said running one of his fingers over Hal's face.
The thought of what Ocelot would have done to him came up, in this little time? One never knew Ocelot was a pretty disturbing man when it came to things like this – alright stop thinking about it Snake. “Good news?” he asked after his pause.
Ocelot nodded. "One. Your little Hal-meister here is alive and somewhat well." he said as he turned Hal's face forcefully towards the camera. "Two thanks to you Liquid will have his own body again. Well once it's born and we transfer his DNA to it." he smirked deviously.
“What does that have to do with Hal?” he asked immensely pissed and trying not to think about liquid using Hal’s body to come back. However he had an idea of where they could be. He placed his finger on a map to tell his lady friend that they’re probably in Japan.
"Oh no no. This was entirely your doing minus the new modifications." Ocelot said. "Congratulations you're going to be a daddy!" he grinned as Hal struggled against his grip. "Well we won't know that for a few more days but with my modifications it should be inevitable." Ocelot said matter of factly
“What the hell?” The way things where clicking was slowly becoming more and more terrifying. ‘But you should learn to use some protection when helping yourself to this body’ ‘Oh… shit.’ He thought as soon as he remembered. However here he knew Ocelot and Liquid had to be pulling his leg.
"Farewell. And good luck rescuing him." Ocelot said covering his mouth to stifle a laugh. "Oops! I mean /them/." he laughed before the camera was turned off. the codec signed off as well leaving static.
Snake blinked a few times wondering what he really meant, as that sure as hell couldn’t fit as ‘possible’ and ‘true’. He turned to the pilot who was already on her way to Japan and sat down to explain to Sunny /why/ Hal was missing.
Hal was left alone in the room after Ocelot and his scientist left. He sat up again and rocked back and forth slightly. '..god please help him find me...'
This one was not too difficult. Apparently Ocelot /did/ want Snake to find him, since as soon as he went back to Japan, (which was hours upon sickening anxious hours), they landed as close as possible to the base they had infiltrated. Snake ran the rest of the way, not hesitating about leaving Sunny with the pilot. He had thrown up twice in their way there as well but it was really not of his own concern right now.
Hal got up and started walking around. He noticed that he was in the same room he was in when he was captured the first time.
By the time Snake had made it to the building he was tired, pretty tired but would not exactly give up. Sneaking in was a little complicated when he had to muffle his panting with a tissue less it be heard through the place. He was grateful to find that the security was increased in some places but they had not done anything to the airshafts. The ones he reluctantly entered; not caring much if they had sensors in it but still pulling blowing talcum at them to see for himself.
Hal looked around and noticed that there was a small ventalation shaft above him. he stood up on his bed and tried getting it off to no avail. "dammit.." he muttered to himself as he sat down on the bed.
Snake heard the distinct voice cursing and he crawled to said direction, once he was as close as possible to the place he heard this he called Hal on the codec. “Otacon, I want you to speak, loud, understand?” he told him as quick as possible.
Hal blinked. "Where are you?" he asked through the codec as he stood up on the bed again.
“Possibly above your head now speak again” he said, trying not to show how very sick with worry he was even if the way here had been like shit and he was near to throw up once again.
Hal looked at the vent and banged on it. "Hear that?"
Snake noted it was a few feet further but he eventually go there. “Stand back, I’m serious” he told the man pausing and then proceeded to put plastic explosives on the vent, few. He hoped it didn’t blow his hands off while he started to take his boots and his BDU jacket off. He placed the jacket on the plastic explosives and the boots on those then crawled back and lowered his head and protected it with his arms trying not to think about the sound before he blew it. Next thing he knew was a great deal of pain.
Hal was in the corner of the room shielding himself. he stood up and coughed from the smoke. "Snake..You ok?" he called
Snake rolled on the floor where he’d fallen and groaned, not really expecting to hit his head like this. He touched where it’d hit and smelled the blood off his hand before letting his forehead touch the floor to try to get his mind off the pain.
Hal went over to him and looked over his hands "You know better than to do that.." he said taking the blanket and tearing it with Snake's knife to make strips.
“Hal” he said with a little insane expression as he took his partner’s face in his hands. He was far too occupied with the fact that he’d found him and that he was alive to care about the strips.
Hal started wrapping Snake's hands up. "Are you mad.." he asked looking down as he wrapped. "..about what Ocelot said...?"
“A little, his fault, God I’m tired.” He muttered trembling a little. Still he looked at Hal a little and hugged him. At least he still had this, even if it was as far as his arm stretched. Snake was very glad that he was able to hold him like this, still the dizziness was going to drive him crazy. “We have to get out of here.” He said, trying to find a way. Maybe the way he’d come…
Hal looked down. "I'm sorry.." he said tying off the bandages.
“Why is that?” he asked putting up a few things so that he could climb up on and thus lift Hal into the shaft so he could move in.
"For being the damsel in distress all the time.." Hal said helping him.
“Does that mean you’re wearing a dress for me, please tell me you’re wearing a dress for me. Make it a shirt skirt too.” He joked helping the man up into the vent. “Careful with the corners.”
Hal got into the air vent and offered his hands out to Snake. "I'm not going to wear a dress Snake.." he said as he helped him up into the vent.
“Come on, maybe an apron, one of these days I’m making you wear an apron.” He offered as he lead Hal through the vent, trying not to think about the things they where going through and about what Ocelot had said.
Hal laughed a little and nodded. "Ok an apron." he said following him.
“Really?” He asked, incredulous that it had really worked. “That would really make me a happy son of a bitch” he said remarking about his lack of morals with a predatory grin. He guided Hal out of the building before the men could investigate the vents.
Hal followed him closely and held onto his arm. "...I'm sorry if what Ocelot said was true.."
“This is your fault when?” he asked trying not to give into the dizziness and the pounding of his heart in his ear. However after walking into the streets and for a while he felt like the world was spinning out of his reach and leaned on a wall to hyperventilate a little before a coughing fit.
Hal put his hand on Snake's back and tried to help him balance. "I need to get my bag... i have something that could help you..."
Snake tried to calm his breathing or at least stop the coughing but it was starting to become painful. However he nodded at Hal and tried to get to the plane. However once they made it there the pilot had one comment. “You look like shit.”
Hal helped Snake aboard the plane. "Do you have my bags?" he asked her urgently.
Sunny looked at Snake alarmed and went to get him the bag he wanted. She was back trying to lift the thing when the pilot went to help the child. They placed the bag near the chair and made Snake lie down on the floor even after he insisted he was feeling fine.
Hal got some capsules out and mixed them into one hyperdermic needle. he shook it and quickly injected it into Snake's neck
The fact that Snake could do little but wince at the intrusion and just looked at Hal a little confused said little about his health. He just stared at him observing how his vitals returned to some semblance of normality.
Hal disposed of the needle and empty vials. He helped Snake sit up and looked at him. "You feeling better?"
Snake shook a little when steadying himself on his legs but there he held firmly. “Yeah” he muttered trying to get his thoughts in place. However what Ocelot had said was coming back to him.
Hal stood up and offered him his hand. "You should lay down." he said giving a weak smile
“Yeah, that’s a good idea” he said, as he went back to the floor to do just that. Sunny watched him a little scared. She looked at Hal and then at his pet. It was sad when your pets died.
Hal looked at Sunny and hugged her. "Let's get you into bed as well young lady." he smiled picking her up. He made her a little bed on a couple of seats and tucked her in. "You did a good job today." he said smiling
The pilot watched her as she curled up to sleep and closed the doors firmly. “You alright, kid?” she asked Hal without looking at him from where she was trying to make this plane work. “Where to?”
"I'm not a kid and yes I'm fine." Hal replied for once defending himself against her. "Take us somewhere close to a hospital."
“Alright, alright, easy!” she said, lifting a hand to tell him to calm down and did as she was told. Knowing by the conversation she had with Snake while he was vomiting that she’d go to Canarias so Hal could get some test.
Hal eyed her as he sat by Snake, taking his hand.
“I won’t jump him when he’s like that! Although he did promise me that I’d get some action or something like that, I’m not sure he was shouting over the codec” She poked as she knew it would be fun to watch what he’d do once he was this agitated.
Hal looked up at her. "Just drive the plane." he said turning his attention back to Snake. If Ocelot was right and he was carrying Snake's child he didn't want to take any chances with that woman agitating him. He ran his fingers through Snake's hair and watched him sleep
Snake was gone into slumber for hours, his body in clear protest for the use it had been given for the past few days. The pilot left Hal alone for now surprised that he was so defensive. She got them to the islands and waited there. Clearance wasn’t so easy here but she found the way around it. Still she waited to see if they needed her help, she wasn’t the type to let Sunny at the mercy of Snake’s luck.
Hal fell asleep next to Snake as she flew the plane. Once they landed he woke up and gently shook Snake.
Snake yawned and looked around. He found Hal was there with him and that was very good, since he had thought for a while he would have to learn to live without him. He stretched and got up from the floor to help Hal with the stuff. Even when he was absolutely and completely convinced that Ocelot was lying to him he still, for some ungodly reason, grabbed everything himself. Purely coincidence. His friend gave him a look and then waved at Hal “I’ll be here in case you need the help kid!”
"I'm so glad." Hal said picking up Sunny as he got off the plane. "Snake let me help you with some of that." he called after him
“I have this, you have the kid, that’s well.” Mumbled Snake as he carried what little equipment he’d taken in a hurry. Eventually he made it back to the hotel who’s owner looked at them weird for having come with their belongings twice.
Hal nodded slowly. He followed Snake up to their room and laid Sunny on the bed. "You feeling better?" he asked Snake
“After the rest it reduced to back pain, mostly from the plane but much better.” He said, putting the things down. He was not about to let this fall into an awkward silence. “do you think he was speaking honestly?”
"I'm not sure.." Hal replied shrugging. "I mean it's not possible to say the least but I wouldn't put anything past Ocelot.." he added. He studied Snake for a few moments and looked at him. "What do you think?"
“The man’s a complete nutcase, if there’s a physical way to do it, he did it.” He said, trying to think that Hal was right and that he didn’t have to live through the nightmare Ocelot described. The way he’d said it made Snake think there was something life-threatening in Hal that could possibly harm the man.
Hal looked at him. "I guess we'll find out soon.." he said sitting on the bed. "What are we going to do if it is true..?"
“What we always do; work with it.” He was fully aware that this was not like an infiltration mission or an information gathering quest but he knew that it was a formula that had worked for them before and it could work for them now.
"Snake it's going to be hard 'working around' a kid." Hal replied. "This isn't a small problem like everything else has been.."
“Well we’ve done that for the past week, even if she’s having a chocolate-induced nightmare right now.” He said, pointing out what he found out as immediately as he did. “God” He muttered running a hand over his face. He was having this conversation with Otacon and he thought he would never have this conversation with a woman, much less his tech support.
Hal sighed and ran his hands through his hair. "What I should have asked was if you were going to help me if I am.." he replied.
“After that’s my fault, least I could do.” He said, covering up much of what he wanted there with that. “Also, what do you think Ocelot meant with Liquid having his body again?” he said, decided not to let Ocelot get his hands on Hal again.
"Maybe he's going to transfer Liquid's DNA into the baby once he gets his hands on it.." Hal suggested painfully.
Snake’s left eye twitched slightly in the corner. “If” he was forced to correct on sheer impulse, as if he had a muscle in his throat that made him do that. However not really something involuntary since it was coherent speech. Maybe it had something to do with the tone of Hal’s voice when he said that.
Hal shook his head. "I..I don't want it to happen..." he said trembling a little.
“Calm down, if Ocelot really rearranged so much in there it still won’t happen.” He said, sure he could promise this all he wanted as it was a fact of honest life that he wouldn’t let it.
Hal nodded slowly. "I just don't want you getting hurt because of me.."
“Most reasonable reason to get hurt I know” he said, leaning to hold Hal against him. He leaned down to kiss him as he’d missed that enough to doubt his own authority to still do so.
Hal looked at him and kissed him before putting his arms around him.
“So what was that about an apron” he said, probably murdering whatever mood was there. Still it made him grin when he did so. “I’m holding you to that, I assure you”
Hal managed a smile. "I know you are." he laughed
“That’s pretty nice to hear.” He said, going to get something out. “Please don’t move from here.” He said, placing his handgun on the table there in case Hal needed it while he was gone. “I’ll find something to eat that won’t make Sunny dream of monsters.” He said, leaving to do that.
Hal nodded and laid back on the bed. He looked over at Sunny and smiled a little before getting up. He paced around a while thinking about everything.
Snake was on his way back and bringing something to eat that might actually keep normal human beings up and running. Although they where sandwiches he’d ask they be made as if it where for three grown men. That’s what he got, a feet long each and with as much ingredients as humanly possible. Now how to figure out how to make Sunny eat hers when she woke up.
Hal got himself some water from the sink. He looked around worriedly as he moved about the place as if something was going to jump out at him at any moment
Snake was back kind of hurriedly as well since he had a worry since he knew Ocelot could find him here without giving it a single thought. Not that the cat was getting his hands on Hal again.
Hal got back on the bed with his glass of water and sipped it as he waited.
“I brought some real substance for once, which is something I can’t believe we went without.” He said, putting the bag on the table of the room. “This place has a small fridge and stuff like that right?”
Hal nodded. "Yeah." he replied pointing to the small fridge. "What'd you get?" he asked getting up and going over to him
“Real food, you should be glad to see it” he told the man showing him the sandwich and starting to eat his own. He looked merry happy with it too since he had not had anything honest in his stomach for a while and he was starving himself to death.
Hal grinned happily and took a sandwich. He bit into it and smiled happily reveling in it's glory. "This is amazing..." he swooned all happy like. "Thank god it's not moldy.."
“God tell me you didn’t eat that thing. She keeps them for days, I can’t stand it!” he complained and kept eating at a quick pace since he was accustomed to eating at an amount of time, convincing himself that this was not one of those relics.
"Of course not." Hal replied. "I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole."
“Good because it’s probably enough acid to melt the pole into your hands.” He said, finishing his meal and them making it his immediate task to wait for Sunny to wake up. However he went to take a bath too for the love of Jesus Christ; he had ‘vent’ written all over his skin.
Hal nodded. He sat on the bed and ate his sandwich. "Snake did you get something to drink?"
“There’s water in the small fridge” he said, grabbing a towel and disappearing into the bathroom so that he could take this sweat off him. Bless the showers. He was eventually far more relaxed.
Hal nodded and got one. He finished his sandwich and switched on the television
Snake bathed and eventually dried up. The feel of not having all the sweat on him was pretty refreshing and to a certain extent he was sure it had to be good for his health. He wrapped the towel around his waist and came out, watching out that Sunny didn’t wake up and see him like this before he had the chance to throw something out. He immediately went to the bags and had to walk besides Hal like this to get there, but Hal he did not mind.
Hal looked at him and laid back on the bed. "Feel better after that?" he asked. "You look ten times better."
“Really? Why is that?” he asked the man while searching his bag for something to wear under his pants and shirt, although it was really good that the pants where standard to have no zipper, just buttons, that way he could choose not to wear anything under them if he so pleased. However he didn’t want the feel of it, it was uncomfortable. Not if he could avoid it.
"You aren't as pale as you've been and i can see your natural skin tone and not just caked on dirt and grime." Hal laughed looking at him.
He gave up and put his pants on without them , assured that as soon as his underwear showed up he’d put it on. It wasn’t too difficult, though. He then turned back to Hal throwing his shirt back on. “Well I aim to please” he said with a smile and looked at Sunny. “Sleeps a lot judging that she had a sugar boost and just got knocked out.”
She's been through a lot today.." Hal said softly. "Thank you for helping me today.." he said looking at Snake.
“Otacon can you hear me? Where are you?” He asked much less calm since he didn’t have Hal in his range of sight, for all he knew the man was already dead. Sunny looked a little alarmed to be ran with in someone’s arms like this. She noticed that plane again and just felt something was wrong.
