Chapter Thirteen

Link slowly climbed his way out of the sewers, the gore-encrusted Master Sword trailing behind him. It was still raining. Goddess, would it never end?
Link didn't really care. He kept walking, his mind bending in a struggle with itself.

"Link...finally Link. You got him..he paid his debt. Good, wasn't it? didn't it feel good? Didn't it smell good? The blood? The lovely, righteous flowing of the blood?"

Link stumbled along. It was so right...yes, yes, so right..but he knew it was wrong...

Lightning flashed and lit off the Blade of Evil's Bane, illuminating Link's face in blue. For a brief moment he saw his reflection..and a weary face splattered with blood...

"Link...come on now, Hero! You know it wasn't right! You saw his face...you saw that fear in his eyes! He begged you! He did as you said! And you did nothing. You gave in to your hatred. Your blackness...you killed an innocent, Link..you know you did...Monster..."

"No! NO!"

Link ran as fast as he could towards home. He needed Florice...he had avenged her..she needed to know..she needed to...

"Monster...abomination...Hero of Blood..."

"No...no...Goddess, no..."

"Don't deserve to live...murderer..."

"He hurt her! I had to! I had to!"

Link did not know he was screaming into the night air. That no one heard him. The Voice...the Voice, and another Voice. They were hounding him. Even as he came to his front door, to his one safe haven, they hounded him...

He took the time to wipe off the Sword before entering. Florice didn't need to see that...didn't need to see what he had done for her...that he had fallen for her...

He slowly opened the door and stepepd inside. But this was wrong...

Florice was asleep, and covered in bandages. Sahasrahla the elder was there, in his heavy red robes, the Sage's whiskers and keen eyes of age prominent in his features.

But the look they gave...piercing...knowing...

"Link..where were you, Hero? What have you done?"

"Sahasrahla...I have done nothing wrong. Nothing wrong...I did what was right. I punished the evil...I did."

Sahasrahla sighed and slowllkedlked over to the young man. His eyes bore a look of worry, and of sorrow, and of deep fear, all at once.

"Link..tell me. Did you ever wait and listen to the woman you love before you tore off to avenge her violation? Hmm? Did you?"

"...No..I did not..but..."

Sahasrahla's voice rose, his eyes throwing icy daggers at the young Hero.

"But? But? What do you mean, "But!" You killed an innocent, Hero! I warned you of this darkness within you..that that Triforce accursed sword would bring to you. Would that we had never of had to have you use it's power. I told you to fight it. All night we talked. Counsel I gave, counsel you took, and for what, Link? For what?"

"Elder...why do you yell? Why?!" Link's voice rose to a shriek.

"I killed that man, because he is evil! He tore Florice! He tore my feelings! My love, my mind! So I tore him! Oh, yes, I did, and I would again!"

Sahasrahla shook his head and backed towards the door, leaving Link shaking.

"Link...he did not. Did you ever wait to ask her if mayhaps a Moblin or two had jumped her, and Toreador had went to summon me for help? Did you?"

Link stood there in his rage, but a horror spread over him, and his heart hit his stomach with a jolt. And he collapsed to the floor, even as his Elder's soft words reached his ears, and all in his mind turned to an image of a gore splattered sewer wall...

"You are falling Link. It has already begun. And I fear now, you will be the death of us all..."

Sahasrahla left then. Link did not know it, but he would not see him so long as his life now lasted. He had left the Hero with the blood on his hands, darkness and evil on his heart. A sleeping woman he loved on his bed.

Murderer...Monster...

Link threw up, the contents of his stomach splashing onto the wooden floor of the small house.

His vision grew blurry now...the blood...the vomit..the pain...

Link faded away...

I think this was a nice little twist! It didn't work out so well as it had in my head, but it looks pretty good anyhow. Check in 3 and review!
