Questions Never Answered

“She just entered the city”, Saverok said as he pushed his way into the room and sealed the door behind him. Imoen looked up from the scroll she was studying and gave childish grin as she returned to whatever she was inscribing.

“What is all this about”, Saverok asked, whether about the paint on the floor or Viconia in general no one but him could tell.

Imoen replaced the scroll on a shelf and turned to Saverok. He realized that all he heard was static. No whiny little girl, no pampered little godling, just his own thoughts and silence. If this pleased Saverok, he didn’t show it as he only scowled deeper at Imoen.

“Fine, what do you want to know”, Imoen said throwing her hands in the air.

“What is this all about?”

“A name for…” Saverok’s hand got a firm grip on the windpipe and slowly began to tighten. Saverok’s rage only intensified as little pitiful squeaks emitted from the terrified girl. Imoen didn’t need air, but the power of Saverok promised immense pain and the terror of his wrath kept her well inline.

“What, Imoen, is this all about. It isn’t a name. Don’t even claim that it is a name. I’m no fool Imoen, you don’t want him to hear what you say today. Why?” he let go of Imoen, but his hand rose to threaten thundering blows if he felt she was lying.

“Your right, but I don’t fully understand what is going on myself. I was hoping Viconia might know something. You’ve felt it haven’t you, Kain is obsessed with her finding a name. It makes sense though if you…” Imoen cut off. Saverok looked displeased, but he to had felt it in the Lord of Murder.

“Why Viconia?”

“I don’t know”, a fierce slap sent Imoen sprawling, “Honest, I don’t know anything about why. I know only that somehow Kain’s gotten his heart all tangled up in this nonsense”.

“I know your lying, but she’ll be here soon. For whatever it is worth Imoen, I’m beginning to catch on to what is happening”.

Imoen bit her lip to hold back her response. Saverok was to narrow-sighted to fully understand the plan she was hatching. As he had said, the pawns must not know. Saverok, Viconia, and even Kain mustn’t know.

Viconia left Neverwinter knowing as much as she had entering it. She had asked Imoen what was bothering Kain and Imoen could say was that it was the search for a name. All of her other questions got similar treatment to the point that she just gave up. Imoen wasn’t cooperating, indeed it seemed that she had more questions then answers. All that she had given Viconia was the name of a mage who was skilled with divination. So as she emerged from the private meeting all she could think of was that it would be another long trip to Waterdeep.

“Well then Vicky, we best be getting horses this time or higher a wizard to teleport us, cuz I ain’t walking”.
