The Best Friend

Chapter Ten: The Best Friend

Miyake Sora frowned lightly, a trash bag before him filled with clothes and other items from his house, "Babe, my journal is still in your car...right?" He asked, looking up at the silver haired teenager who was working on another bag of clothes.

The silveret paused in his work, looking up at his lover, a thoughtful look on his face, "Uh...I think so." He replied after a moment, "Do you need it? I'll get it for you."

Sora gave his boyfriend a pleading smile, "Would you?" He asked, folding a shirt as he spoke, "I have a lot of stuff I need to get out of my head and down on paper."

"Sure thing, baby." Riku said before laying a pair of Sora's pants on the bed, grinning at his lover's expression as he headed out of his room. But, not before smacking Sora on the ass on his way past.

The brunet jumped in surprise as Riku's palm connected with his backside, "No fair!" He called after his lover before snickering lightly as he continued folding that shirt before stuffing it into a dresser Sephiroth had so kindly supplied him with.

Ignoring the questioning his brother gave him as he came down the stairs, Riku headed straight outside to his car. He figured Kadaj would be dying to know if they had 'christened' his room by the look on the shoulder length haired boy face as he walked past the kitchen towards the front door and he didn't feel like dealing with his overly nosy brother this early in the morning.

A red haired girl made her way down the sidewalk, grinning upon seeing the silver haired boy walk out of his house and towards his car. Quietly, the girl walked up to him, watching as he unlocked and slid into the car. She stood just behind him, peering over his shoulder as he reached for the glove compartment and pulled out what looked to be a journal.

She blinked when he opened the front cover to look at a rather suggestive picture of himself and his lover, "Nice picture." The girl mentioned with a smirk.

“Fuck!” Riku exclaimed, jerking at the unexpected voice before dropping the journal. With his heart pounding against his chest, Riku turned his head to see his good friend Kairi standing there. “Don’t do that!” He hissed, reaching over to retrieve the journal front the front seat. “Are you trying to give me a heart attack?”

“Well, I figured if Sora having your baby didn’t do you in, you’d pretty much be immune to little old me.” Kairi replied, leaning against the car, picking at her nails, “So, how’s the mother-to-be anyway?”

“He’s...” His voice drifted off for a moment, “...being very brave.” He concluded, ignoring her jibe at him as he tucked the journal under his arm, “Don’t tell Sora you saw that picture okay? That was a present for Sora and only he was suppose to see it.”

Kairi waved the boy off, “Don’t worry, I won’t say a word.” She said before frowning lightly, a sigh passing her lips. “I’d say he’s being brave. I saw his mother at Mass last night after the fact, and she looked like she was about ready to murder someone in cold blood.” She said before shaking her head, “But, you’re being brave as well. All of that anger she had was directed towards you. To think you stood up to her. You’re braver than most, you know.”

“You should have heard what Kadaj told her.” Riku said, grinning, not so upset with his brother anymore. Now that some time had passed since the incident, it had become more amusing than horrifying. “Kairi...have you seen Wakka or Tidus or any of the others since we were...outted? Do you know...if they still consider us friends?”

The red haired girl nodded slowly, “Yeah, Tidus was at Mass last night. He told me later, after Mrs. Miyake was done screaming, that he had figured it for a while...he just didn’t say anything.” She said, “I’m not to sure about Wakka, he wasn’t there, but I can almost bet that Tidus told him.”

“...Tidus knew? And he still hung out with us?” The silver haired teen was quite surprised to hear that. Of course, he had never asked the blond his opinion on homosexuality, but neither had Tidus given him any indication that he knew of Riku’s or Sora’s sexual orientation. “I knew my brothers knew because we often watched each other’s back when...well, you know. My dad knew too. Sooo...I wonder just how many people already know...?”

"Well, I did. And, didn't you say your father did too?" The girl pointed out before sighing softly, "I just reframed from saying anything, you know. I didn't want you nor Sora to feel uncomfortable if I had mentioned it. And, I'm sure Tidus was operating on the same wave length as I was."

"I honestly could care less if people knew about me. I just didn't want Sora to be hurt, he doesn't deserve it." Riku said, heading towards the front door, the girl following behind him, "And, you do?" She asked softly, giving her friend a meaningful look, "You don't always have to be the strong one, you know."

Riku heaved a sigh, stopping on the porch to turn and look at the red haired girl, "It doesn't matter now, everyone knows about it. And, they all blame me for corrupting Sora."

Kairi snickered, "Sora wasn't that innocent to begin with." She pointed out with a playful smile.

Riku blinked, looking at the girl, "Why does everyone say that?" He muttered before sighing, "Are you coming in? I'm sure Sora would be happy to see you."

"Of course, I am! I have to make sure the mother-to-be is getting the utmost care, after all, I'll be the baby's godmommy, riiiiight." Kairi replied, nudging the other boy before pausing, "Wait...is Kadaj home?" She asked, glancing up at the silver haired boy.

“Yes,” Riku said with an added sigh, “My brothers decided that we need bodyguards...and they made Kadaj stay home to watch over us....some bodyguard...letting me come outside alone...”

The red haired girl snorted with laughter, “That’s why I’m glad my parents stopped having children after me.” Kairi said with a grin.

The silveret snorted, “Yeah...rub it in...” He muttered as he opened the door, “Kadaj should be in the kitchen getting lunch right now, so you have nothing to worry about.”

“Oh, it’s not Yazoo and Loz that I’m worried about...” Kairi said, “It’s Kadaj...you know we don’t get along...stupid perv.”

Riku chuckled, “Sora’s upstairs.” He said, beckoning the girl to follow him.

Upon entering the room, Riku looked to see where Sora was as he set the journal onto his dresser. Still unpacking his things. “Kairi’s here.” He told his lover as he bent down to pick up a box to begin to look through it, hoping to find Sora’s other journals.

Honestly, Riku didn’t have to tell the brunet that Kairi was here, because as soon as the girl reached his room she pushed her way past Riku squealing loudly and immediately clung to Sora’s side, “I’m so excited for you!” She cried.

Sora flushed lightly, laughing nervously as he glanced at his lover, “Thanks...Kairi.” He said as he patted the girl’s shoulder awkwardly, pouting at his lover’s amused expression.

“I’m sure by now that almost everyone knows about Sora and I, but did Sora’s mother say anything about the baby?” Riku asked, sighing in relief when he came across Sora’s other journals, “She had told Sora that she wanted him to have an abortion. His father wanted the same thing.”

Kairi’s eyes widened as a gasp left her lips, “Are you...serious?” She asked, her voice barely above a whisper, “After all that bull shit they preach about it being a sin?”

“They’re hypocrites.” Sora said softly, frowning as Riku stepped over to him followed closely by Kairi, “They both are.”

Riku wrapped an arm around his lover, “You’re right, babe.” He replied, pressing a kiss to the boy’s forehead.

Kairi nodded, wrapping an arm around him as well, “Yeah...it’s wrong, except in a life or death situation. No life should be given up so easily, isn’t that what we all were taught when we were growing up?”

Riku snorted, “The Catholic church is nothing but a bunch of hypocritical bullshit. They preach about love and acceptance...but, then they condemn us for loving a person of the same sex!”

Sora sighed, “It doesn’t matter, because I’m not going back.” He said, looking up at his lover than over at his best friend before smiling lightly, “And, I won’t make the baby go either like my parents did.”

Both Kairi and Riku laughed at that.
