I only have one happy memory of my parents’ faces, and it is very hazy. I…was sitting at a table, eating breakfast with my mother and father. They were smiling at me…I don’t remember the reason why. Or perhaps, there was no reason.
That is not the only memory I have of them. I have one other memory.
Sitting on a landscape of rubble, everything colorless around me.
Sitting there, clutching my mother’s cold and lifeless hand.
They did it. They killed my parents and everyone in the settlement. They stole all of our energy capsules, almost destroying the entire asteroid. My true nemesis, the only things in this universe that I will kill without any fee.
Space Pirates.
They are the only things that I hate in the universe.
…To think that I might have died on that chunk of rock, never getting my revenge, is frightening to me. However, I would have died before even thinking of any revenge. I was trapped on a rapidly deteriorating asteroid where temperatures were below freezing, with only enough oxygen to last two days. Death was inevitable.
They saved me. The Chozo are the reason I am here today. They are far more important then the parents I never knew. Even though the Chozo avoid encounters with any other races and only attack in self-defense, they would never stand by while people died. Having seen the Space Pirate’s ship at the edge of their area scanners, they stopped on the dying asteroid to look for survivors…There was only one.
The year 8810. I was four years old…I’ll always remember that first time I saw them, their exotic spaceship quietly hovering down…and I’ll always remember what came before the Chozo.

Record of the first mind hack of Samus Aran, the Hatchling. Hackers: High Shaman Leh’a, and Shaman Vi’to.
People are running. Everywhere.
Fear. So thick in the air. It feels horrible. It smells. Horrible.
They smell. Like blood. They laugh. Snarl. I don’t like them.
Someone grabs me. They are strong. Carry me easily.
Rose colored arms. The metal is pink. They hold me gently.
Mother. Mother’s rose suit. Mother holding me.
I am safe. Mother will keep me safe. We are safe.
She carries me. I just watch as she runs.
People are bleeding. Everywhere.
Death. So thick in the air. It feels horrible. Worse than fear.
They are everywhere. Everywhere I look. They are.
Blades on their arms. Guns in their hands.
Their laughter. It clashes with the screams.
I cannot see them! I am in a building.
Mother. Mother has brought me inside. We are safe.
She opens something. She lays me inside. It closes.
Dark. It is cold. So cold. Can’t move. In the dark.
Mother. Where is Mother? She left me. I am alone.
People are silent. Everywhere.
Silence. So thick in the air. It feels horrible. Can’t speak.
Cold. So Cold. Want to move. Must move.
Can’t. Can’t move. Can’t scream.
Loud bang. Gets warm. Something hits me. It hurts.
I hit something. Hurts more.
Pain.
There’s a crack. Light. I can see!
Must get out. Anywhere but this dark. Anything. Please.
I kick. Door opens. I’m free! I hurt. But no blood. I get out.
Mother is not here. No one is here. No building. Nothing.
Flames. Eating everything that can be eaten.
Even people. But people don’t move. Everyone is dead.
They are not here. They are gone. But their smell is here.
Blood. It won’t go away. Can’t smell anything else.
People are dead. Everywhere.
Can’t move. Hurt bad. Bad pain. Arm won’t move.
Must. Must move. Find Mother. She is here. Somewhere.
I move. It hurts! Keep moving. Must find Mother.
She is there. Rose suit dusty. Mother’s favorite suit.
A long stick. Made of metal. It goes into Mother. Out.
Dead. Mother is dead.
Everyone. Dead.
I must be dead. Must be. Must.
Can’t be alive.
I stay. Next to Mother. Can’t move.
Maybe. Mother will be better.
Soon. I will wait. Mother will wake up.
Two days. They pass. So quick. So slow.
Third day comes. Don’t care.
Fire is gone. Day is dark.
Dizzy. Something wrong. Don’t care. Must wait.
Mother. Must wait for Mother.
Light…Light? How?
A spaceship. It’s silver. It comes down. Slowly.
Them. It must be them. They’ve come back.
Good. Mother won’t wake. I will sleep with her.
It lands. Silent. No sound.
Ramp comes done. Still no sound.
Five people. They glide down. Tall. Taller than Father.
Taller than Them.
Gold eyes. The glow. So pretty…
Four are looking. At everyone. Everyone’s dead.
Middle one. Doesn’t move. He sees straight ahead.
I don’t move. Can’t. Too tired. Dead. I’m dead.
Something goes by. Past my head. Felt nice…
It comes back! Tall person. In the middle. He points.
At me. His arm is long. Covered in long cloth.
So fast. Didn’t see it. Two tall things are by me.
I don’t care. I am already dead.
They pause. Then one picks me up.
So gently.
Pain! It hurts so bad! But I make no sound.
They will make it better. They promise. How…?
Wait. No. Mother. I can’t leave Mother. I don’t let go.
It pauses. It is…sad.
Something touches my head again. It stays.
There are words! In my head?
Mother will not wake?
Please. Let me sleep!
The other one pulls. So carefully. I let go of Mother.
They will not let me sleep.
They take me to their ship. The other thing. It reaches.
At me. It will hurt! I hide.
Touches my arm. Warm! So warm. Pain goes away.
I look at the middle thing. His eyes are white. He is blind.
But he can still see. Many things. Different things.
They take me on there ship. Sy’at is still holding me.
She is gentle. Kind. They all are. They will not hurt me.
They are not Them.
They remove my suit. They will give me a bath and food.
Sy’at washes me. Her fingertips are sharp. But so gentle.
They comb out my hair. Just like mother’s.
Mother is dead. Would Sy’at be my mother?
We will see. Everyone is not sure yet. About me.
She makes some new clothes for me. So quickly.
Her hands glow and there is a shirt and pants there.
They are white. So soft and warm.
Sy’at dresses me and then carries me to go eat something.
She doesn’t want me to walk. I am too weak. Sick.
We are in the main room. There are seats and cushions.
The blind one is eating. He sits between two others.
They are his protectors. He is a Shaman. Sy’at’s brother.
Something in the center of the room. It is green.
I jump out of Sy’at’s arms. It must be…It can’t be…!
It was a area of flowers and a small tree.
I fall to my knees. I thought I would never see these again.
All of the flowers were burned by Them. All the trees.
Something hot is running down my face.
I couldn’t stop Them. They killed everyone. Everything.
Crying. Can’t stop. Tears falling on the little flowers.
It was my fault. I wasn’t strong enough.
I hug the little green tree. I kiss the leaves so gently.
I wasn’t strong enough. Now I am alone.
The Shaman picks me up and holds me close.
They will take care of me. They will not leave me.
It is not my fault. There was nothing I could do.
I look up at Vi’to. I wonder. Where we are going.
To their home planet. There are many greens there.
Many things. Like them.
Not things. Chozo. None of them will hurt me.
Vi’to will talk with another Shaman. Important Shaman.
She will decide what will happen with me.
Sy’at would take care of me until I meet Leh’a.
Vi’to feeds me. The food is good. Warm.
I feel…tired. How long has it been?
Too long. Vi’to quietly hands me to Sy’at.
She wraps me in a blanket and lets me sleep on her lap.
I curl up. I am safe. They will not hurt me.
I sleep.
