Prologue

Kingdom Hearts

Run

Note: This is written in a different style than normal for me. As such, it can be considered an a-typical storyline. Although the first part is way too cliched, there is a purpose. I'm not aware of anything like what is in the second half being posted. At least not in the KH category.

Second Note: Halfway through, Kairi will take over as main character. The reasons will be obvious when they happen, so anti-Kairi people may wish to stay clear. I do not like her, so I am trying to make myself like her by putting her through tough situations.

Third Note: Not a songfic, but inspired by a song. Also, this is short because it is a prologue, not a chapter.

Fourth Note: For those of you who do not believe change can happen the way it does in this fic, something very similar happened to a person I know, and love like a sister. Even the happiest of people can be changed to the darkest. The change a certain character experiences is my homage to my friend, as I cannot seem to tell her how much I worry.

Pairings: Riku/Sora, Ansem/Riku

Disclaimer: The cast of Kingdom Hearts belongs to Square-Enix/Disney, not me. I only exhibit them for non-profit entertainment.

I’ll sing it one last time for you,

Then we really have to go,

You’ve been the only thing that’s right

In all I’ve done.

And I can barely look at you,

But every single time I do,

I know we’ll make it anywhere,

Away from here.

Snow Patrol – “Run”

Prologue

Sora! He shouted to the darkness that swarmed his vision. He couldn’t see anything, and his heart ached as if it had been ripped from his chest. Sora! Where are you? A piercing laugh echoed through his brain, followed by a deep cold voice: “He will not find you here. You may as well accept the darkness in your heart.” He spun around in the darkness, still searching for some, for any light. Sora...

“Did I not just tell you?” the voice said again. The voice was definitely Ansem’s. Hands crept around his neck, and lips touched his cheek. Riku felt nauseated, and gripped hard on Ansem’s wrist, causing blood to drip down his own hands. Ansem’s hand smacked hard against Riku’s cheek, hard enough to make him fall to the ground.

“You’re a fool!”

Riku looked at him, his eyes narrowed. “What makes you suffer so, Ansem? Why are you so evil? Certainly it has to do with the Heartless,” he was almost certainly throwing caution to the winds, but that didn’t matter. His body may be a slave to Ansem, but his mind would always be free, and he would be forced to deal with the man whose Heart ached.

Ansem laughed at him, a cold laugh. “Suffer?” he spat the words like a malignant poison. “Suffer?”

If he could move, Riku would have backed away. Fear congested his throat as he felt the rage swell in Ansem’s mind and body. He stood, too strong for any mortal man with aggression of a rabid wolf. He never knew his cowardice before now, and now that the man stood before him Riku knew his own weakness.

Ansem laughed, pulling Riku to his eye level by his throat. Fear in his stomach, Riku was statuesque. He was terrified that his neck would snap if he struggled. Ansem dropped him to the ground, and Riku gasped for air. Wheezing, he didn’t bother do get up. He couldn’t move, even if he wanted to.

“Foolish boy,” Ansem said, his eyes gleaming wickedly. He stared at Riku for a moment, the boy’s heavy breathing. “Do you have any idea what I want to do with you?” his voice had become dangerously low, a glint of a madman in his eyes. Fear sprang in his stomach again, and Riku felt a scream in his throat.

Something sickening pushed its way to Riku’s throat, and Ansem sneered his displeasure. “You’re disgusting. What filthy bile on my floors. You should be ashamed.” Riku aimed a misjudged kick at Ansem that missed the man by a foot. Ansem’s scowl only deepened. “I could kill you, boy. But where would the fun in that be? Besides, I need your body.”

I need your body.

The sickening feeling in Riku’s stomach returned, but he didn’t react this time. He didn’t move, and couldn’t bare himself to look at Ansem. He was some sort of toy, was he? He’d sooner die, he’d sooner slit his own wrists in an attempt to stop this man from destroying him. But he couldn’t move even if he wanted to, his body was in complete control of Ansem for however long he wanted it. That didn’t change the nagging sensation that there was a sadness in the man’s heart, although that fact did nothing to quell the hatred flushing through his body and mind.

Ansem’s laughter only increased. “You’re truly a fool boy, but I think I can get used to this,” he chuckled. “I can get used to this.”
