Chapter 1
Hummm...seems FanFiction.net is still doing their little "we won't accept anything with a rating higher than R" bullshit...assholes. Anyways, this isn't my newest stuff...but lemme know what you think.
Disclaimer:
I don't own any of the characters mentioned here, they're all property of Tecmo.
'Zack is such a jerk' I thought as I closed the door behind the delivery boy. 'What
a pervert...inviting 8 girls to his island and lying about anothournournament...' I
walked over to the bed with the gift I had just received and laid down, wondering if
I should open it or not. Sure, I was pissed about him luring us out here, but it was
so peaceful...so few people on the island...we could rest all day if we wanted to. What
was with all the volleyball courts though? 'Oh well, no harm in using it to my
advantage.' I opened the gift and turned it upside-down, and my eyes went wide at
what fell out - it was the biggest diamond I'd ever seen...
"To Lei-Fang...Love always, Zack"
I crumbled the letter up and tossed it into the trash along with the box, but kept the
jewel on the nightstand to the side of my bed. Just then, the phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hey...how do you like it?" I heard from a deep, male voice.
"Zack???" I asked
"Who else, baby?" My fist tensed around the phone.
"You're sick" I said, and slammed it down onto the receiver. "Ugh...." I decided to take a
nice, hot shower before going to sleep.
'What have I gotten myself into?' I thought as the hot spray hit my body and turned
into steam. 'Oooh, Herbal Essences'. It was cucumber-melon scented, and I didn't have
to pay for it, or any of the really expensive body-washes that sat in the bathroom. It
even had the ones with those hard little bubbles that felt good against your skin, and
the big, long sponges that served as back-scratchers...Zack really knew what a girl
wanted, but he didn't have to be such an ass about it.
"Mmm...." A soft bed felt really good after taking a hot shower that almost turned your
muscles to jelly. I practically fell onto it after I finished brushing my teeth, and drifted
off to sleep.
~~~
I went down to the pool the next day to wait for Lisa, but she didn't show. A lot of
the other girls were there, though, and I decided to ask one if they'd seen my volleyball
partner.
"KasumiShe She turned to face me.
"Oh, Lei-Fang! Kon'nichiwa! (good afternoon)"
"Kon'nichiwa...Have you seen Lisa anywhere? She was supposed to meet me here earlier."
"Ah..." she looked around like she was concerned, but obviously wasn't putting a lot of
effort into it if she could braid her hair at the same time. She turned back to me with a
questioning look on her face. "Gomen-nasai, I haven't seen her. Good luck finding her!"
She caught up with Helena, probably to go play more volleyball.
It was 20 minutes after Lisa and I had usually met here, and I was starting to think that
coming to the island was a bad idea.,,,
And there she was, walking with Tina, laughing, and heading in the same direction as
Kasumi and Helena, not even bothering to look over at me.
'Forget it' I thought, and rested in a chair by the poolside. I needed a tan, anyways.
'How often did these opportunities come around? Might as well relish in it while it's
here.'
I needed some time to think, and it felt good to just lie there, basking in the sun,
not worrying about anything else in the world. Well...it did feel good for a little bit, until
a tall figure blocked my sunlight.
"Havin' fun, baby?"
"Zack...what in the hell do you want???" he was dressed in a white tuxedo and
expensive sunglasses.
"Easy, easy! I'm just making sure this 'dog house' is up to your and everyone else's
standards...know what I mean?" I wanted to rip the smirk off of his happy little face,
but instead I jumped up, ran at him, and pushed him backwards into the pool.
"Baka yaroo!" I yelled, and stormed off with my things. Hitomi saw the whole thing,
and she walked with me to wherever I decided to go, laughing.
"He got what he deserves" she said. "I think you did us all a favor."
"He's getting on my nerves. I'm glad you're here, I wouldn't feel like myself if I were to hang
out with anyone else. What would I do otherwise?"
"Me too. Isn't it great? I mean, besides the fact that we were tricked into coming by a sex
deprived pervert who wants to feast his eyes on us...well...you know what I mean. At
least he's the only one, ne?" (right?) She really sounded like she was having a good time, and I
didn't feel like elaborating on the subtle but noticeable drama going on between certain people
on the island.
"It's nice" I said simply, and decided it would be best to change the subject. "Wanna play
volleyball later?"
"Sure. I don't have a partner, she ditched me." I could see that she was a little sad, but she'd
get over it fast.
"Yeah, same here. That's why I was laying by the pool."
"Oh well. I'll see ya later then? Byeeeeeeeeee!" She bounced off, happy as always, and I made
my way down to a vacant, isolated spot on the beach. The water was almost greenish in color
in the shallows, and turned to a deep sapphire blue further out. And not a single cloud in the
sky,
'Mmm...looks like it'll be quiet here..' I dropped to the ground, taking in the heat from the
warm sand. It was softer than any I'd ever felt before and didn't give you that poking feeling
that normal sand would...no way it was natural, probably some type of special mixture. Zack
went to a great extent to make his island as comfy as possible, but he was still an ass.
I let my hands dig themselves into the white grains above my head, and shut my eyes in relief.
I drifted off into a state of half-consciousness, letting random memories float through my mind.
All I felt was the hot sun beaming down on me, the warm sand beneath me, and an occasional
breeze. The ocean continued making its normal sounds as it came up onto the shore and
retreated back to itself, only to repeat the process indefinitely.
I must have actually fallen asleep for a while because I didn't remember feeling the cool water
touch my toes and work its way up to my ankles.
"Tide's coming in" I heard from a cold voice. It was rather sudden, and I didn't know anyone
else was there with me. I thought a soft hand touched my own, but wasn't sure if my mind was
playing tricks on me. My eyes opened and saw Christie's expressionless face looking at me. I
yawned and stretched, noting the orangish tint in the sky. I must have really needed sleep for
all that time to pass.
"Hitomi's waiting for you." she said as I began to get up.
"Oh! I would have forgotten. Thanks for telling me........and for waking me up."
"Heh." was all she said, and laid down a few feet away. I stood up, stretched again, rubbed my
eyes, and said a quick 'bye' before running off to meet up with Hitomi and whoever else we were
playing against...
...it turned out to be Lisa and Tina.
"Hitomi! Sorry I'm late...I fell asleep."
"It's ok, we just got here anyways. Let's play!"
~~~
We ended up winning the match by a few points, and I smirked at Lisa before walking off
with Hitomi. She was obviously disappointed, but it was her loss - that's what she got for
splitting up with me.
"Good game" she said.
"Same here." I told her about why I was late, how long I must have been out for, and how nice
it felt to get the hell away from everyone else and do nothing. She laughed and said I was gonna
get lazy later on in life.
"Christie woke you up for me, right?"
"Yeah, she did. It kinda startled me, but it's a good thing she did it - the tide was up to my ankles
by the time she got there. I'm surprised the sunscreen help up that whole time."
"You got darker, though. That's not a good thing if you're around Zack" she winked. I gave her
a quick pinch on the butt, and she followed it with a yipe. I really was glad to have her there,
it wouldn't be fun without someone to talk to and laugh with. That was cut short when we reached
the hotel.
"Hmm...I think I'll go for a little swim and take a rest in the hot tub. a joa join me?" I didn't have
anything better to do, so I agreed. We hopped in and splashed each other playfully.
"It's warm" I commented.
"Yeah. Fun to swim at night, too." We raced back and forth a few times, but Hitomi always beat
me to the other side. I never was a very great swimmer.
When we got tired of that, we relaxed in the jacuzzi. It burned at first, because of the quick
contrast from the pool water, but you get used to it after a bit. It left me even more relaxed than
my shower the night before, probably because I didn't have to stand.
"You know what I could use right now?" She sounded tired
"What's that?"
"Mmm...." She sank deeper into the tub. "Nevermind...let's just rest for a little while longer."
I let my head fall back and the bubbles float up my back and between my legs. It was amazing how
many stars you could see out there. There weren't any light sources for miles, (we were, after all,
on a small island in the middle of nowhere) so there wouldn't be any light pollution.
"Hitomi, look up." She did, and her expression changed from relaxation to wonder.
"Kirei...(how pretty). I've never seen so many at the same time." It was like ground-up pearls
thrown over an ebony sheet and bound to the sky. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6....." she began counting, and I
laughed.
"Are you crazy?" There are WAY too many to count."
"Come on, it's fun!" she nudged my ribs with her elbow and caused me to giggle again. "Wanna
get something to drink?" She got out of the water and walked over to the bar, a little wobbly, and
ordered one strawberry and one lime margarita before I had even started walked over to her. "Red
or green?"
I looked down at the two when I got there, chose the red, and thanked her. Nice and sweet, just
the way I liked it.
"Uh oh....here he comes" she whispered to me. I looked over and noticed Zack coming our way,
not giving us the usual look. He didn't give us any look, as a matter of fact.
"Ya know, it's a shame that there aren't any decent looking guys on this island" Hitomi said, loud
enough for anyone around us to hear. It was mainly Helena, who was swimming, the idle bartender,
and our favorite person. He almost tripped and fell on a crack in the ground, and I couldn't hold in
the laughter that was shortly accompanied by Hitomi's and Helena's. The bartender held his, for
fear of losing his job, but the smile on his face was evidence enough. Zack walked off, saying
nothing to anyone.
"Mmm, how's the lime?" Hitomi held the straw up to my mouth, and I took a sip of the semi-sour
slushy liquidy stuff. I nodded my agreement.
We walked back to the tub and sipped quietly for a while, hearing nothing but the vibrating sound
of the jacuzzi jets, some soft music being played, and a few of the other girls walking by and talking
or swimming. When we finished, we went back up to the hotel and I walked Hitomi to her room.
"Oyasumi-nasai (Goodnight)"
"Oyasumi" I replied, and turned to go to my room.
And there was Christie, in the hall, with nothing but a towel hanging from her neck to cover her
bare chest and a bikini bottom. Why she wasn't wearing a top was a mystery to me.
"Hey" she said flatly, and had just the slightest hint of happiness in her facial features. "How was
the game?"
Was this possible? She actually cared, or at least pretended to care, about how someone else felt?
"It was...good" I said, a little shocked at the question and her manner of dress. Her wet body
reflected the lamplights on certain areas that were more curved than others. "We won."
"Hmm." She gazed at me with only 1 icy blue eye, the other covered by her light, white hair.
She was actually smiling now. I did the same withmoutmouth.
"Nice to hear people are having fun. See ya tomorrow" she said as she walked by me, too fast
for me to say anything in reply.
I reached my room an threw my stuff onto the bed. 'Shower time' I thought, and turned on
the hot water. It was surprising how much I tanned, and the difference became obvious
when I removed my swimsuit.
As the water ran down my body, I thought of Christie...was she coming around? And actually
socializing with other people? And why'd she touch me earlier?
'She was just waking me up. That's it.'
'Maybe she doesn't know how to act properly around others...
'Is she anti-social? Or was it just because she's an assassin?'
'Yes, that had to be it.'
...
'No. She has to have people skills. How would she carry herself so well if she didn't?'
'Is she just trying to be different?'
'Why would anyone do that?'
'I dunno.....'
Was I actually talking to myself?
'No, just constructive thinking.'
Enough. I realized I'd been standing around doing nothing, so I washed the chlorine off with a
nice, slippery bar of soap. I followed it up with a small squirt of the body wash with the
'exfoliating bubbles.'
'Christie might turn out to be a good friend. Don't push away if anything happens.' I knew it would
be ok, Christie had no reason to kill me, and she hadn't been trying to accomplish anything
malicious. 'Get over it, she's just another human being.'
I waushiushing my teeth when another delivery boy came to my door with a box.
"Compliments of Zack, Ms. Lei-Fang."
"Thanks" I said with the toothbrush still in my mouth. "I wonder what the bastard had sent
to me today. I took the box, slammed the door, and tossed it onto my bed. The lid fell off, and
out fell a few smaller boxes labeled 'Midol'...
Um...I'd prefer that you review after reading the later chapters. It gets better! Promise.
