Marth fidgeted nervously with the emblem adorning his cloak, before looking down towards his waist to make sure the belt was cinched perfectly and the scabbard that would now officially re-bare his ancestral sword was in place. He looked himself in the mirror once more, raising a hand to almost delicately adjust the tiara setting atop his head with a forlorn sadness to his eyes.

When Lycia conquered Altea to stop the invasion from Bern and Archanea, he'd been but torn away from his sister who was put to death for her Resistance as Queen publically. In official records, however, it was revealed that she had surrendered peacfully and to ensure Altea's safety, she offered them him.

He'd been only eight at the time, just a boy. He had screamed and pleaded for his sister to reconsider, knowing what was to happen. She had knelt, and took her tiara off and placed it atop his head and drew him in to kiss his forehead before pressing something secretly into his hand before standing with a smile and walked proudly off to face her execution, all with Marth yelling for her to come back, clutching the Kingdom's Fire Emblem in his hands tightly to his chest.

He was shown much kindness and mercy from Lord Eliwood, who took him in to study with his own son, Roy, the prince of Pharae. They two had bonded almost immediately upon meeting one another, since each had come from a noble stature, but it went beyond that, they would genuinuely smile in one another's company and practice their swordsmanship out in the courtyard. Marth, as he had no royal standing now that Altea became part of the League of Lycia, was made Roy's personal servant once Eliwood saw how close the two were, and upon his Tactician, Denedra's request.

The two were inseperable, Marth followed Roy everywhere he went, the redheaded boy allowing his servant the right to study and learn abroad with him. This made Roy's childhood friend, Lilina extremely jealous. She would openly protest to his coming along whenever they were together, but Roy would always brush her off. More than once as the years had gone by and they had grown, he had saved Lilina's life. Never once did he get a thank you, or earn her respect, but he didn't care. All he cared about was pleasing Roy and he knew she was special to him.

Then one day, it happened. They were around sixteen. They were in the courtyard of Pharae Castle sparring like usual, and they had just clashed in one final push to outwit the other when Marth showed the other up with a flick of his wrist as he parried off Roy's sword and twisted around gracefully, rapier glinting in the light as he pointed it at Roy's throat playfully. "Looks like I win, Sire."

"Where did you learn that??" Roy asked astonishedly. This caused the blue haired youth to smile.

"Denedra showed me. She told me I still had a legacy to live up to, even though I'm bound to you in service. I've been practicing extra hard so I can keep you safe!" He exclaimed with such a radiant smile at the other that Roy was taken aback at how much Marth appeared to care for him.

"Marth..." Roy murmured in awe, swallowing as he attempted to find words that would properly express his feelings. "...I, thank you. Truly, from the bottom of my heart. But you needn't worry for me, I will be fine."

"No, milord," Marth replied, "I always worry for you, even in the times we are together, because you have become my everything, Sire."

"You can call me Roy, you know, Marth. We're not in public."

"...But it isn't proper of someone of my stature now. Lilina--"

"Lilina is a foolish girl who thinks she can squirm her way into my heart by showing off. She doesn't realize how much it hurts me that she rejects you, so whatever she has said to you on this matter, doesn't count!" Roy replied fiercely with such a passion in it that it made Marth stare in mild speechlessness at his Lord.

"R-Roy..." He finally murmured.

The redhead sheathed his sword and appraoched the other, reaching out to place his hand on the other's shoulder. "What you've failed to realize all these years, Marth," He began softly, leaning in close until his mouth hovered right next to his servant's ear. "Is that you're my everything as well."

Before Marth had a chance to even say, or comprehend anything, his Lord was gone, leaving him standing there in the middle of the courtyard speechless, all with a mix of emotions fluttering through his heart.

Two years later, Roy petitioned to his father to allow Marth to be free and allow him to reclaim Altea, under the conditions that they still remain under the rule of the League. It was with some counsel from Denedra that Marquis Eliwood would allow Marth his former rank of Prince to the Kingdom of Altea.

Upon return to the large castle, the youth felt overwhelmed.

"Lord Marth! Lord Marth, you've returned!" Cried a voice.

Turning, Marth's eyes widened as a smile broke out on his face. "Merrick? Merrick, it is you!" He cried joyfully as he embraced the other male.

He didn't catch the jealousy that flared in Roy's eyes, but he soon turned. "Roy, this is Merrick, my friend. He was going to become my magical advisor once I attained the throne..." He murmured.

Merrick snorted. "I still am, if you'll have me, Marth. I've finished my studies abroad, I an an accomplished mage now, not just an apprentice you last saw me as." He bristeled, but held his hand out for Roy to shake, which the other prince did.

"Of course I'll have you as my advisor! I'll need all the help I can get. I don't know the least about ruling anymore other than the lessons I attended with Roy." He murmured.

"You're lucky you even managed to get those! Most people in your position wouldn't have." Merrick replied, glancing to Roy who nodded. "I made arrangements with my Father."

"Ah, I see."

"What has happened these past years, Merrick?"

"A lot, My Prince, but I'm sure Cain and Abel are going to be absolutely estatic to know you've returned!"

"Wait, they survived?" Marth asked astonishedly.

"Yes, indeed they did. They're happily married, though they harp like old widowed wives at one another at times," Merrick replied wryly.

"Really? Oh, Gods, I knew it. For all the denying they went through, it was bound to happen." Marth chuckled.

Roy blinked in confusion. "Who?"

"Cain and Abel, they were our Lord's playmates and are now Mercs, but I'm sure they'd come running back the moment they know there's space for two accomplished Paladin's." Merrick replied.

""Ha, I'm sure they will." Marth replied with a smile as they reached his old room that had been redone for his arrival and he smiled at Merrick. "Well, I will catch you later, Merrick, there is much preparation to be done and not enough time to do it in hardly!"

Merrick smiled. "Indeed! I will see you later, My Prince. It is good to have you back in Altea. The people have needed you so much." He murmured before he bowed and took his leave, leaving the two standing there for a mom,ent before Marth bade Roy into the room and shut it behind them.

"Are you sure about this, Roy? I'm not ready, I don't know the least bit of ruling, and-"

"Marth, hush. It will be alright. You are the rightful heir to this place. I will be right beside you to help."

"What a role-reversal," Marth replied with a wry smile.

"Does his Lord wish for a bath?" Roy teased back.

A smack to the shoulder had the two laughing.

"Thank you, Roy." Marth finally said.

"For what?"

"...For this. For this chance to reclaim the things I thought I'd lost. I remember I had first resented you, and your father for everything...but you've given it back to me. How can I ever thank you? There are no words, no expressions I could ever say to repay you for this kindness you've shown me all these years."

Roy shook his head as he stepped closer. "You don't have to thank me. I don't need any. I just want one thing from you,"

"Anything," Marth replied, feeling his heart rate beginning to rise the closer Roy came until they were standing face to face like they had that time before in the courtyard.

Leaning in ever so slowly as if hesitant, Roy gently kissed Marth. "This, you. I want you."

Staring with a dazed look, a smile burst forth onto the Prince's face. "Always," He answered as he allowed the redhead to draw him in once more.

Now here he stood, four months later preparing for the coronation of his ascention to King of Altea. He was biting his lip as Roy sauntered up behind him, sliding his arms around his waist, nuzzling into the back of his neck, placing a kiss to it. "Your humble stewards are waiting to escort you, Marth." Roy murmured.

Marth snorted. "I'm sure. Please tell me they actually are in their armor and not their underwear." He asked in mock fear.

"Well, that depends on how much longer you stand here preening yourself, your Majesty." Roy teased again.

A subtle pout formed on the blue haired male's lips that had the other smiling. "Don't make that face unless you want this entire day to be for naught for I fear I shall ravish you if you keep looking like a drenched kitten in the rain."

A bright blush formed on Marth's face as he pried himself away from the other with a sound of mock indignity. "A drowned kitten?" He scoffed.

The redheaded Prince laughed. "Oh get over it, now come on, it's time."

Nodding, the male took one last look at himself before he walked out of his room and down the hall, meeting Cain and Abel at the door. (Who thankfully, were indeed in their armor.) They two bowed and escorted him from behind up the steps of the courtyard past the crowd of people gathered.

The nervousness came back, but he snuck a glance at Roy who only smiled at him and it was enough. He made his speech to the Kingdom and recieved much praise and cheer. The festivities began and dinner was served.

But he soon found himself bored of all the grandeur and slipped away to the silent back courtyard where he could still hear the bards playing their finest music as he looked up towards the starry sky that twinkled with many stars.

"So this is where you disappeared to," Came a voice.

Marth turned to see Merrick approaching and smiled at his friend. "Merrick," He greeted.

"I was wondering where the King had wandered off to, I should have known it would be your favorite place." Merrick replied.

Marth smiled faintly. "More than you'll ever know," He replied mysteriously as he turned his head back up towards the stars.

"You really do love him, don't you?" Merrick asked as he stepped beside his Lord, looking at him seriously.

"How could I not? He is my everything." Marth replied with a smile.

"He said the same thing about you."

"It's funny how fate works. I thought I had lost it all, only to gain it all back with more. It is because of Roy I am here, it is because of Roy that my people once again can thrive and prosper...and the price of it was none too steep at all." Marth answered.

"What was it?" Merrick asked curiously.

A brilliant smile lit the Lord's face as he turned his head to glance back towards the entryway where Roy was leaning against the pillar looking at them.

"Me."
