Haku's Night

Neru watched as her intoxicated best friend stared blankly at the snacks in the grocery store. Haku had been drinking since earlier in the day; at some point the drunk woman decided she needed snacks, so she dragged her friend with her to the store to get something to go with her sake.

 

“Come on, hurry up!” Neru urged her friend. Neru checked the time on her cell phone.

 

Haku reached out for a bag of potato chips, she missed faltering into the shelf. An employee of the store looked up from his duties and watched the two young women.

“I don't have time for this,” Neru said impatiently. “I'm going to go home now, are you alright?” She asked Haku.

 

Haku gave her friend a thumbs up letting her know that she would be fine on her own. Neru shook her head as she left the store.

 

Haku finally found a suitable snack, hurrying over to buy her food she ran into another friend of hers, Meiko, who was also about to make purchase. Meiko swayed a little as she held a couple of cases of beer and a bottle of sake in her arms. Meiko had also been drinking.

 

“Hello, Haku! It's good to see you,” Meiko said with slurred speech. “Look, I'm having a party tomorrow, do you want to come?”

 

Haku thought for a moment, “Who is going to be there?” She finally asked.

 

“Oh just Kaito and I,” Said Meiko.

 

“Sure!” Haku said enthusiastically.

 

“I have to use the restroom, I'll be right back,” Meiko said to the chashier as she set her items on the counter at the check out stand. “Hey Haku, come with me,” She waved at Haku.

 

Haku shrugged and placed her item on the counter as well she then followed Meiko to the restrooms. Once they were inside they both went into separate stalls.

Meiko didn't hear an answer from Haku, all she heard was the sound of the other stall door opening and the jiggling of the door to her stall. She opened for Haku who quickly stepped inside locking the latch on the door behind her.
