Silent Hill: Memories of Chains

There were so many things I wanted to forget. So many things I wanted to cherish.

Things I loved

I hated

There were so many things I was running from

You should know that those things included you.

Chapter 1: Silent Hill

Katherine parked her car near the trail leading to Nathan Ave. which was the only road that could take you to Silent Hill. The road to the old town had long been cut off to the public, so she would have to walk the rest of the way. She took out her map, folded it, and placed it into her jean pocket. She had come to Silent Hill for two reasons: 1. to get away from her abusive and hateful life she had developed, 2. it was said that people disappeared when they entered Silent Hill. And that was just what she wanted to do. She wanted to disappear so no one could tease her, hurt her, or threaten to control her life.

She could have cared less to have anyone find her. If she could disappear to never be found alive again, she would go to the one place said to have that capability. And she was doing just that.

She walked over to the short, stone wall next to the concrete stairs that led down to the dirt covered trail. It was very foggy. She didn’t know if she could see but five feet in front of herself. And not to mention it was a bit chilly. Luckily for her she had worn a leather jacket over her short sleeved green shirt. Her jeans held in some heat around her shapely legs, but her black boots did better. Katherine’s long brown hair blew in the wind as it slowly swept by her, giving her a good and hard chill.

She had to admit, she was a bit nervous. She wasn’t ignorant to the horrific tales of the said to be haunted place; but it couldn’t be worse than the life she was already living. Having to do anything and everything for her abusive father and mother, a slave and punching bag to her, use to be, future husband. But know she was going to change all that. She was going to disappear.

Taking on all her courage and possibly some stupidity, she walked down the concrete steps and onto the dirt covered trail. As she walked on the trail her shoes made crunching sounds, as she stepped on the dead September leaves that had fallen from the surrounding trees. Katherine put her arms across her chest for warmth, as she continued the long walk on the trail through the woods.

Her heart began to thud loudly in her ears at the piercing silence that surrounded her. No birds sang, no crickets chirped, the only sound audible to her ears, was the moaning of the trees as they moved in the wind; and the sounds of her foot steps on the earth. She tried to stare straight ahead but with the dense fog, she felt like she was falling. So instead she stared at her feet. But soon something caught her attention. A fence soon came into view. It was an old barbed wire fence; the planks of wood holding it up were crooked from old age or maybe just from lazy builders.

The trail she walked on soon became a dirt road. It had seen its share of vehicles and was fine and packed; so as she walked on it she almost become as silent as her surroundings. Abandoned buildings could be seen past the barbed wire but she dared not to wonder off the road just yet. The fence that lay on either side of her became a stoned wall with a large iron gate. Looking past the rusted bars she saw a cemetery. According to her map, she was almost to Nathan Ave. and soon she would be in Silent Hill.

She pushed open the gate with her small and pale hands on the cold iron bars. As she opened it, it made a whining metallic screech that seemed ten times louder that it should have been. Katherine walked into the foggy cemetery cautiously. It was vast and she couldn’t tell where one end started and the other ended. Weaving her way past the many head stones, she came to the other side of the cemetery. The Iron Gate was the same as the first, and required no effort to open but it complained just as loudly.

Before she knew it, the small dirt road led her out onto a side walk and an abandoned street. Finally, she was in Silent Hill. The fog lay heavily on the town making its empty streets even less inviting. Cars littered the road along with other trash as she walked along the side walk. She shivered as she looked at the tall and decrepit buildings that towered over her as if watching her every move. Maybe she shouldn’t have come here, she thought to herself as she began to see blood stains on the ground. But she wasn’t going back now, this place couldn’t be any worse than the Hell she had to face at home, could it?

She crossed the street and as she did, something began to move in the fog next to her. Turning she saw a figure emerge from the dense fog and reviled itself to her. It was a man, he wore a green coat and over his grey shirt and jeans. His hair was short and brown. He seemed normal, until he suddenly pulled out a gun and pointed it at her. She took a step back a bit frightened. Why was he doing this! Wasn’t there suppose to be monsters, not normal people?

He fired a shot and it hit her arm harshly, splashing blood on her clothes and dotting the ground. She let out a harsh shrill of a scream before clutching her injured arm. She wasn’t just going to stand there and be shot, so she quickly turned and fled. It was to her alarm that she heard the man’s footsteps following her as she fled. Her heart began to race along with her legs; the pain shooting through her body gave her an unbelievable amount of energy to run for her life. Unfortunately that energy didn’t last and she fell from exhaustion onto the harsh and unforgiving street. She looked up as she heard the footsteps catch up, and she saw the same man a bit closer. He loaded his gun and cocked it. As he went to shoot her, Katherine threw her hands up over her head and prepared to die.

But the sounds of the gun shots was all she heard, she didn’t feel any wounds, only the sound of the bullets bouncing off of something metallic. Looking up she saw a sword in front of her like a shield. It wasn’t an ordinary sword, it was gigantic. When she saw the man with the gun run off in the other direction frightened, she turned her eyes behind her to see the person capable of wielding such a weapon, but as she looked up her mind became clouded and she blacked out.

(A/N: I am sure you can guess that I am using the Silent Hill 2: restless dreams reference. Love that game, love all of them actually. Hope this is good, its my first time on fan fiction so tell me what you think.)
