All the Little Treasures
Chronicle 1
I ducked under cover, just one small wall away from my friend; Nathan Drake. As usual, numerous people wanted our heads. This was our third time working together.
My name is Selina DiCamillo, I began my life as a petty cat burglar to survive life on the streets. I am a decent fighter, kind of needed to learn how to defend myself. And I am pretty skilled with guns, not a master but I’m no amateur.
I reloaded my PM 9mm, staying in my crouched position. “You doin okay over there Nate?” I called out over the gunfire, checking on my fellow treasure hunter.
“Just peachy!” Nathan answered, sarcastically as usual. I rolled my green eyes as I looked over my wall and quickly pumped one of our many pursuers with three bullets, killing him.
“Hah! One more down! Think I’m beating ya Nate!” I joked, ducking below again when all the fire turned to me.
“She killed Raul! That bitch!” one man cried out. I soon heard a beeping sound. I looked to my side and saw a grenade!
“Oh crap!” I cried out, rolling across to Nate’s segment of rock wall. Thankfully we could both hide behind it.
“You okay?” Nate asked, shooting the man who just lobbed the grenade at me just a moment ago, killing him.
I pulled one grenade off the belt on my vest and yanked the pin out, throwing it in the middle of three men who didn’t even notice the death ball. “I’ll be better in about three seconds!” three seconds later…BOOM!!!! I grinned with glee, I loved treasure hunting.
I stood up, keeping my pistol aimed, looking for anymore enemies. “I think we’re clear.”
As Nate was about to stand up, a shot was fired and I cried out in agony, falling beside him. “Selina!!” Nate quickly looked me over. My tan tank top was now covered with my blood, a bullet wound on my right shoulder.
Nathan leapt up, locating the man who injured me and landed a perfect shot in between his eyes. The dead man fell from his perch in a tree. “Nice shot, Tex.” I added, hand to my shoulder, trying to stop the bleeding.
“Thatta girl, keep applying pressure. I’ll call Sully and get him here, there’s no way you’d be able to get back the other way.” Nate said, whipping out his phone and contacting Sullivan.
I closed my eyes, feeling exhausted. “Nate, there’s gonna be more.” I said groggily.
“What do you suggest we do?” he asked.
“Take my grenades, now go to the tunnel they came through.” I instructed, laying down on a crate of whatever these guys needed.
I saw Nathan was now at the mouth of the tunnel. “Now, pull out the pins, don’t throw them till I say.”
“What?!”
“Just listen Nathan!” All I heard was a growled ’Fine’ as I heard the grenade pins clatter on the stone ground.
I counted in my mind; one…two…”Now!” Nate didn’t need to be told twice as he hurled the grenades into the tunnel, collapsing it and preventing anyone from following us.
He ran back to me, making sure I was still alive. “Holy crap, you’re losing a lot of blood.” he gasped, checking out my wound.
I just rolled my eyes, too tired to say anything. I turned my head to the side, about to drift off to sleep when my black hair began dancing in the breeze. I opened my eyes and saw Sully’s helicopter.
It landed about fifteen feet away from us. Sully rushed out. I guess Nate told him this was an emergency. “So, what’s going on? Got here as fast as I could.”
“Selina got hit. We need to get her to a hospital!” Nate said rather hurriedly, picking me up and carrying me aboard the helicopter. Sully leveled one of the seats to where I was laying down.
“I’ll get us to a hospital, you make sure she stays awake, kid.” Sully ordered, closing and locking the door. “No matter what she says, don’t let her fall asleep.”
“No problem.” Nathan said, coming to my side.
About thirty minutes later, I was becoming incredibly sleepy. I began to shut my eyes for a relaxing sleep. I felt a slap on my cheek. Not one to hurt, but enough to catch my attention. “What the Hell?” I groaned, opening my eyes and glaring at Nathan.
“You heard Sully, no sleep right now.” he told me, a dead serious look on his face. I’ll admit, I love Nathan…probably more then a friend. He’s drop dead handsome, fun and energetic. I just love his voice too, men with deep rough voices get to me.
“I jus wan a few minutes.” my speech was even exhausted…must be the blood loss. I shut my eyes again.
I was then shaken by my friend. I shrieked in pain, his thumb accidentally dug into my wound. “YOU HORSE’S ASS!!!!” I cried in sheer pain.
Nate jumped back, a loud sorry coming from his mouth. The pain kept me awake till we finally arrived at the hospital. Thankfully, there was no one in the Emergency Room.
I was wheeled in on a gurney, Nate and Sully running beside the stretcher. “Get this woman into surgery pronto!” the doctor ordered. I heard a nurse tell my friends to stay in the waiting room as I was wheeled into surgery.
“Ms. DiCamillo, we’re going to put you under, we will get this bullet out of you, it should be about an hour.” he told me before injecting me with anesthetic. I was then unconscious.
I was dreaming…Nathan and I found a great treasure in silver and made a fortune. I didn’t find that so hard to believe. But then, he proposed to me. And shortly afterwards, we had a son. He looked so much like Nate…only he had my eyes. Wow…I guess I’m more head over heels for him then I thought.
My dream faded to black and I woke up. I was in an all white room and in a bed. I also had an IV in my right arm, my heartbeat could be heard with a steady rhythmic beeping sound.
I groaned, a slight pain in my should as I sat up. “Ahh, welcome back, Sleeping Beauty.” I looked to my right and saw Nathan and a passed out Sully.
“Nice to know I’m alive.” I yawned, rubbing my right eye, ridding it of leftover sleep.
“We were worried about you for a bit.” Nathan smiled as I laid back down.
“At least we were successful.” I added, closing my eyes with a smug grin on my face.
“Yeah, that we were.” He said, my backpack on his lap.
He pulled out a small box that held our treasure in it. “The Gold Bug, it sure is beautiful.” I sighed. “Gonna hate to see it go, but we need money.” I admitted as Nathan opened the bow.
The Gold Bug could fit in the palm of your hand and was solid gold, it looked like some kind of beetle. “How much are we getting for this again?” Nathan asked, carefully taking the bug out and examining it.
“One mill.”
“That’s it? Thought this guy was loaded.” Nate groaned.
“You didn’t let me finish. He’s giving us one million each.” Nathan’s jaw dropped.
“For real? Wow.” he whistled, chuckling afterward. “We’ll be set for a while.” He grinned laying back in the recliner in the corner of my room.
“I know I can’t wait to get back home. I’m sure Raphael misses me.” I sighed, relaxing on the bed.
“You left him in good hands at least. The doc said we can get you out tomorrow.”
“Great! I’m getting me some real food when I get out.” I grinned, I wasn’t too fond of hospitals.
“Well, there’s something I wanna give you.” he told me, coming up to my bedside and reached into his pocket.
I held out my left hand and he let a small trinket fall into my palm. “Nathan…I can’t take this. It was the first treasure you found on your El Dorado hunt.” I said, trying to return the gift.
“Its nothin really. Besides, I know you love turtles, so you’ll treasure it more then I would.” he had given me a charm that was in the shape of a turtle and was made of silver.
“There’s no changing you mind. Thanks Nate.” I smiled, setting the charm on my nightstand.
“Ahh, its no big deal. Doc said you need to get plenty of sleep, so I’ll stop bugging ya. Night, Selina.” Nate said as I rested my head against the pillow.
I noticed that he didn’t stop watching me…not like there’s much to watch in a hospital.
*a week later*
We finally arrived back home in Key West, Florida. Well, I was dropped off at my apartment. I will admit, it does get lonely at times. “See ya guys. Can’t wait to work with ya again!” I called out, grabbing my suitcase from the back of Sully’s jeep.
“Hey, Selina!” I heard Sully shout.
I turned my attention to the man I viewed as a father. “Hmm?”
“How bout we get together and look over that bug before we give it to Figle?” he suggested.
“Sure. Where and when?” I asked always up for being around the two men. They were the only people I really trusted.
“How about tomorrow at Red Lobster, 6:00 p.m. sharp. And dress nicely. Maybe a nice black dress.” he added, winking at me. Sully could be rather strange at times.
“Ok…sure. See you guys there.” I told him, then waved as they drove off. I looked up and saw my door open and out came my manager, Durga. She is a beautiful Indian woman with long black hair and brown eyes.
“Hello Ms. DiCamillo!” she called out.
“Hello Durga! How’re you doing?” I asked, hugging my friend. She helped me get jobs and leads and received a good portion of my earnings for her hard work.
“Just fine, and everything is the same as you left it.” Durga was also my roommate from time to time.
I ran into my apartment and threw my suitcase onto my bed, flopping beside in a matter of milliseconds. “Ahh, it feels so good to be home.” I sighed happily.
“So, how did the bug hunt go?” Durga asked, entering my small bedroom.
“We got it. Of course there were armed enemies, almost always is. But…I was hospitalized for a few days after surgery.”
“What?!” Durga gasped, running to my side. “Are you alright?” she asked in a concerned tone.
“I’m here aren’t I?” I questioned, receiving a playful slap from my friend.
“Oh, how’s Raphael doing?” I asked, sitting up on my elbows.
“Darling, he’s a turtle. He didn’t do much.” Yeah, Raphael is my pet turtle, a Red-Eared Slider.
“Yeah, yeah. Thanks for looking after him anyway.” I said, walking into the living room and to the nicely sized aquarium.
And right under the heat lamp was my little turtle. “Hey there Raph, mommy’s home.” I spoke sweetly to the reptile who looked up at me.
I heard the phone ringing, Durga picked it up as I continued baby talking my turtle. “Oh yes, she’s here, just got back. Selina, its Mr. Figle!” Durga called out to me.
I left Raphael and got the phone from my best friend. “Hello? Oh, good evening Mr. Figle!”
“Hello Selina. How is the world’s most beautiful treasure hunter on this beautiful evening?” a hearty male voice asked in a friendly tone.
“I am just fine, we just got back this afternoon. Thank you for everything, you are a very generous man.” I said to my current, and may I say favorite employer. The sweet hotel, the flight and the expedition was completely funded by him.
“It is absolutely no problem my dear. So, how did the expedition go?” he asked curiously. Roger Figle, a man in his mid forties was a respected Entomologist. He taught at the university in Key West, Florida.
He also collected Insect-themed treasures, which is where we came in. Roger wasn’t available nor well-equipped for hunting treasures. He is a short, portly man but is very kind.
“A total success. Except for me being hospitalized. We got the Gold Bug of Ecuador. Its safe and sound with me.” I told the generous benefactor.
“Stupendous. Now, when can I expect to see my prize?” he asked, voice full of glee.
“Well, my team and I will come to your manor in two days. We just wanna celebrate tonight and see it one final time before parting with it.” I explained, receiving a chortle from Roger.
“I cannot blame you, or your friends for that matter. The Gold Bug is said to be quite a sight to behold. I anxiously await your arrival. How about six o’clock this Friday, I have exam papers to grade everyday before then. It will also give me more time to get the money ready.”
“Of course, its no problem sir. See you Friday.” I said, hanging up when the conversation ended.
I then dialed Nathan’s number and placed my phone to my ear. Nate answered on the last ring. He sounded groggy. “Hello?”
“Hello, Nate, just wake up?” I asked, it was easy to tell if Nate was sick, or sleepy.
“Kinda, what’s up?” he asked, his voice still groggy.
“I just got a call from Roger, he says we can deliver the Bug Friday at six. That’ll give him more time to get our cash ready. But, till then, you know where I’ll be keeping the treasure.” We were usually cryptic in our calls, for all we knew, someone may go as far as tapping our phones to get what they needed.
“Ok, well, Sully an I’ll see ya Wednesday. You get some sleep, you more then earned it.” Nate told me.
“Yeah, same to you too. See ya.” the conversation ended and it was nine o’clock at night.
Last thing I did was eat a quick dinner then hopped in the shower then went to sleep.
I noticed that there is NOTHING for Nathan Drake. I recently purchased the first game, saving money people! And he's an awesome character! He needs love!
