Author’s notes: Okay! This is going to be my first LoZ ficcy posted here. I wanted to see how I would do in this section. I have one thing to say and that is my original character Emerald. She’ll be explained in the story of course and oh! Sheik is a boy for fic purposes and is a male…That’s right MALE! Despite the beginning, this is a yaoi. Also…I’m working within the OoT so bear with me for now and I’ll probably have something for TP also. Well please enjoy the story and all that. Thank you.

Whispering

Story Start

“I-…I don’t think I can hold them all off much longer!”

“I’m going as fast as I can! That stupid core is almost in reach! Hang on just a little bit longer!”

A young girl with long flowing forest green hair and fierce blue eyes glared at the blonde haired boy who was currently fighting his way to the core of the monstrosity that was making Lord Jabu Jabu of the Zora tribe sick. She was on the sides avoid electrical blasts and taking out poisonous bubbles with arrows that the creature just seemed to breath into creation.

“Finally gotcha!”

The blonde haired boy finally reached the core after fighting his way through a ton of dangerous monsters. After narrowly dodging an almost fatal blast of electricity, he slammed his small, but razor sharp sword into the beast’s core and with a yell he sliced upwards effectively killing the thing that was plaguing Lord Jabu Jabu.

“Good job, Forest Kid…”

The girl pat him on the back as they began to make their way to the blue portal that always seemed to appear from nowhere when they defeated a strong foe.

“Do you think the Zora’s are going to part with their Spiritual Stone, Emerald?”

The girl called Emerald gave a sigh as the portal whisked them out of Lord Jabu Jabu’s belly.

“I really don’t know Link…We have to really hope so…It’s the last one we need…”

For about five months now, Emerald and Link have been on an exhausting quest to find three spiritual stones that were rumored to open the door leading to the powerful Triforce. Link, a Kokiri born without a fairy, was called to the Great Deku Tree at the same time Emerald, a young girl with fairy wings, arrived in the forest mortals were not able to enter.

After vanquishing a parasite that was placed inside the Great Deku Tree by an evil man than hailed from the far east where the Gerudo’s Fortress lies, the Great Deku Tree declared that their meeting was not by chance and so he asked one final thing of the two destined to meet here…Never to let the Triforce fall into the hands of this evil man.

Emerald had readily accepted the task with no questions asked as did Link and they were presented with the item the man had came to get even if it meant destroying the peaceful forest. Using the Great Deku Tree’s final words, they headed north to Kakariko Village where Link had to venture alone to meet with the Princess Zelda. She too had started this task and provided them with a name to the man who had cursed the Great Deku Treee...Ganondorf.

After meeting with the Goron leader Darunia and slaying the beast that was tormenting the Goron race, they received the second Spiritual Stone. Emerald gave a quiet sigh as she looked at emerald and ruby that sat in a pouch secured at her hip.

“So…Are ya finally gonna tell me why it is you didn’t come with me to meet with Princess Zelda?”

Emerald looked up out of her thoughts when she realized Link was walking in front of her. He had his hands behind his head and walking backwards as he stared at her. She cleared her throat and smiled before she spoke.

“I already told you…My legs and wings were tired from all that walking and flying that I just had to rest at Kakariko. I’m not strong and durable like you, Forest Kid!”

She giggled at him before heading into Zora’s Domain. During their travels together, they had become close friends, but despite their close friendship, Emerald had still chose to keep certain parts of her life veiled in shadows from him even if she did truly trust him with her life. Link had made a face at her back before rushing up to her side.

“Hey…Do ya think that creepy Zora girl is gonna be in there too?”

Emerald had to cover the laugh that almost bubbled out as she playfully pushed him.

“Aww…Is Link afraid to face his soon to be girlfriend!?”

Link huffed and crossed his arms as he made an angry face causing Emerald to giggle despite how hard she was trying not to.

“I ain’t scared of no one and she ain’t my girlfriend!!”

Emerald actually laughed a bit as she began to hover off the ground.

“Oh really? I mean you did save her life from the gigantic Octrok and she has claimed you s her boyfriend!”

“Just shut it already Emey!”

She finally stopped her laughter when they found themselves standing in front of the King of Zoras and the daughter Link was trying to avoid seeing again. She gave a bright giggle as she waved at him with a slightly bluish blush that made Link cringe and Emerald try to stifle a giggle.

“Young heroes that have slain the beast poisoning out Lord Jabu Jabu and saving my daughter the Princess Ruto, have the gratitude of the entire Zora race. How could we ever repay such noble acts of courage?”

Before either one of them had a chance to speak up, Ruto almost squealed in an excited manner as she smiled again.

“I know what to reward them with Father! May I present my most precious possession to them?!”

Link and Emerald looked absolutely confused as the King regarded his daughter with a serious look.

“Are you sure that you wish to part with such a thing at this age, my daughter?”

Now Emerald and Link grew even more curious as to what the Zoran Princess had in mind to give them.

”Do you have any idea what she is talking about Emey?”

”Your guess is as good as mine…But whatever it is she decides to give us, we must refuse and ask for the Spirital Stone of Water.”

“Yes Father! I am most certain that I want to give it to them…Link did save me after all…”

She looked over to Link and blushed that bluish tint before descending the throne with a shimmering sapphire in her hands.

“Please accept this my beloved Savior. This is the Zora’s Sapphire.”

Emerald grinned as Link gratefully took the stone.

“This…This makes three…We finally have them all now!!”

“Tee hee! We can finally go to that temple now!”

Soon all the Zoras had joined in their glee, but the look that Ruto was giving Link is what sent chills down his spine.

“How wonderful! I didn’t think you would really be so excited to become my fiancée! I’m just so overjoyed right now!”

Emerald almost choked on air at the horrified expression on Link’s face. He looked as if he was caught within a Re-Dead’s paralyzing spell as Ruto just beamed brightly.

“Fi-Fi-Fiancée?! Since when did I agree to become your fiancée!?”

Ruto just giggled cutely before she leaned in closer to Link who took a step backwards.

“Why…When you accepted my Engagement Ring silly!”

Link looked utterly lost and confused. He didn’t remember ever receiving a ring from her! He just met her for crying out loud!

“Ring? What Ring?!”

“The one in your hands of course! The Zora’s Sapphire is also known as the Zora’s Engagement Ring! I’m supposed to give to the one I wish to marry this stone so now we are engaged! I’ve never been happier my dear Link!”

Link almost dropped the Spiritual Stone, but Emerald grabbed it from his hands and placed it within the protection of the pouch at her hip.

“Forgive me, but uh…he’s going to have to post-pone the marriage! I still need Link’s help, but I promise you I’ll bring him back in one piece!”

“Emerald!!”

She winked at Ruto before dashing down the hallway where she leapt gracefully from the waterfall there and into the water below. She came back to the surface just in time to see Link diving into the water.

“Are you crazy Emey!? I can’t marry her!! I am not marrying her!!”

Emerald laughed as she swam to shore. She wrung out her hair as she waited for Link to catch up and join her while she still giggled.

“Of course I’m not crazy! But if I didn’t say anything you would have been married off right there on the spot and then who would I have to protect Hyrule with?”

He gave her a murderous glare as she held out her hand to pull him out of the water.

“You’re just twisted you know that? You’d probably enjoy seeing me married off to the Zora!”

“Guilty as charged!”

She giggled again as she floated off the ground as they walked to Zora’s River. When they finally jumped from the alcove that was hidden behind the waterfall, night had fallen and there were too many Stalachildern on the prowl to even start traversing to Hyrule Marketplace.

“Tsk…So what do we do? We can’t go down there…we’ll become one of those bags of bones before we ever reached the entrance to the river.”

“Guess we’ll camp here for the night then. I’m too tired to even fly right now…”

Emerald gathered the Deku sticks she always collected for her arrows after digging a ditch to throw them in. Link sighed as he took off his hat and reached inside til he was elbow deep. He was rummaging around for the bedrolls he had stored in there. When he first started this journey, he had no idea what he was going to do with all his new weapons and items until Emerald cast a s spell over his hat. She had enchanted it to carry whatever could fit through the mouth of his hat and it amazed Link that she knew such spells.

“Have you found the bedrolls yet, Link?”

He nodded his head as he tossed a rolled up traveling bed to Emerald before pulling out his own. Emerald was now leaning towards the ditch and dry sticks with her hand outstretched and her eyes closed.

“Din’s Fire…I summon thee to spread thy warmth to keep us safe within this cold night.”

A medium sized flame had begun to dance within her palm before she laid it calmly on the Deku sticks, setting them ablaze. No matter how many times he saw it, Link was always in awe at her ability to use magic. He laid his bedroll under hers and laid down as Emerald sat above his head.

“Hey Emey…Tomorrow is the last step in our journey together…”

She sighed and laid on her belly to look at the top of Link’s head.

“Yeah…I know..We have come such a long way haven’t we?”

She soon turned on her back as Link smiled to himself. He reached up a hand to touch her shoulder and she got the hint. She reached her hand up and found his, lacing their fingers together.

“I’m happy to have done this with you Emerald. Thank you so much for…for everything I guess…”

Emerald frowned into the night before turning back onto her belly and peering into Link’s face.

“Hey wait…Why does this sound more like a goodbye than excitement?”

He closed his blue eyes as he turned his head away from her.

“I-…I dunno…I have a bad feeling about tomorrow…I keep getting the feeling something really bad is going to happen…”

Emerald grasped the hand she held in hers tighter as she giggled in an effort to reassure him.

“I kindda have the same feeling too…but I refuse to even think for one second that I will have to say goodbye to you. We’ll always be friends even when all this over with. We’ll be fine…I promise.”

He finally looked back at her and smiled. She returned the smile and laid back down with a contented sigh.

“Don’t worry anymore, kay?”

“Mmkay…Night Emey…”

“Night Link…”

After about a good ten minutes or so, Link’s breathing finally evened out and he was finally fast asleep. Emerald had released his hand and walked out of the large alcove that sat next to the waterfall.

“All is clear. You may reveal yourself to me now.”

Within a poof of gray smoke, a young boy about Emerald’s age appeared. He had dark blonde hair, beautiful tanned skin, and a single visible crimson eye. He bowed before Emerald and soon found himself with his arms full of the little girl.

“I have missed you Sheik!”

He gave a small smile from under his cowl even though it went unseen as he wrapped his arms around her a bit more tightly.

“As I have missed you milady.”

She pulled away from him and they sat a small distance away from the sleeping Link.

“Tell me, my faithful Guardian…How are things at the castle in my absence? It has been a full month since your last report.”

He pulled down his cowl with a small sigh as he took Emerald’s bag and began to replenish her low food supply. He was her inside informant to the castle of Hyrule and kept her and Link well fed during their journey.

“Not too well I am afraid…That man…Ganondorf…he has been gaining in strength. I regret to say that your father was no match for his dark powers.”

Emerald covered her mouth and gasped as he wings stood straight up.

“He didn’t!?”

“No. I protected him the best I could. He is safely hidden away.”

He wrapped an arm around his ribs where a pain rippled against him. He could have lost his life if he waited a second later. Emerald had noticed and was already pulling out a red potion to pour on the wound. She gave him the rest to drink as she sat down and drew her knees to her chest.

“And what of my sister? Is she still at the castle?”

“Yes. She refused to leave until she provided the hero with one last gift despite Lady Impa’s protests. She shall be waiting for you to arrive at the drawbridge tomorrow evening.”

Emerald nodded her head as she made her wings lay flat on her back as she sighs softly.

“…and that evil man is still oblivious that I am from the royal line?”

Sheik lowered his head.

“Of course. I preformed the spell exactly as you taught me, milady. Even Princess Zelda is oblivious to you being her sister.”

“Thank you for everything my friend.”

He handed her the pouch back and he sighs. He didn’t want to speak out against his princess since she was handling this very well…but she was his princess and his charge.

“Milady, if I may speak?”

“Of course Sheik.”

He cleared his throat as he stood up and began to pace. He had already caught her attention, but he wasn’t sure he could say anything against her.

“I am deeply concerned about the prophecy milady…”

Emerald frowned and then gave him a confused look.

“What about it has you concerned?”

Sheik bit his lip as he faced the one he vowed to guard til death.

“…what if you are really sealed within the temple for seven whole years with the Hero? I do not want to say it is possible, but what if it happens?”

Emerald hung her head and flew over to Sheik since he stopped pacing and turned his back to her. She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him as tight as she could.

“…I’m not sure…But, if it truly does happen, I’m going to be depending on you to be prepared for us when we wake up.”

She could feel his heart skip a beat as he shook his head and she giggled a bit.

“It’s not the end of the world you silly Sheikah!”

He was half tempted to say it would be, but he refrained and just stood there for a moment.

“Of course not milady…I’m just going to miss you…”

She shook her head as she floated around to touch his cheek.

“I shall return to you in one piece, but I don’t think the prophecy is actually going to happen. Some people will believe anything if it means some new way of gaining power. So please…rest easy.”

She yawned and fluttered her wings as she rubbed her eyes. She was beyond tired and tomorrow would be a long day.

“Go and rest my princess. You may not see me, but I shall always be watching you even as the sun rises…”

She nodded her head and hovered over to her bedroll where she fell asleep. Sheik was about to rest himself when he heard the last words spoken by the sleepy princess.

“Be strong my skilled Sheikah…be strong for our land…”

He gave a sad smile as he looked at his princess and the hero she fought side by side with, before vanishing as quietly as he appeared.

Dawn approached quickly, but as usual, Emerald rose with it. She used some of the cool water from the waterfall to freshen up a bit while Link was still snoring away. She was still a little bothered by Sheik’s sadden expression from the night before. It was almost the same exact way from when they first met. He was appointed to be her guardian when he was just seven years old. She was only five at the time, but they got along fine and eventually became really close friends.

“Emerald?”

She turned around and smiled warmly at Link as he sat up rubbing his eyes and yawning.

“Morning lazy bones!”

He yawned again as Emerald fluttered over and handed him her pouch. She had already eaten before hand and was getting ready to clean up their little camp.

“Why are you always up so earlier? Do you ever go to sleep?”

She giggled as Link found the bread and dried meat Sheik had put in there the night before as she began to roll up her bed.

“I do sleep…but with your constant snoring it’s a miracle I do at all!”

He stuck her tongue out at her as she shoved her bedroll into his hat. She then began to fill the ditch she made the fire in while Link ate. He looked over to Emerald and his expression was heavy. It was very odd meeting a Hylian girl and even odder was the fact she was permitted to enter the forest that normally was hidden from the rest of the world.

“Hey! What’s wrong Link? You’ve stopped eating and when that happens something bad normally follows…”

Link blinked and then smiled at the floating pale blue ball of light before his eyes. Her name was Navi and she was the fairy granted to him by the Great Deku Tree to help him in his quest.

“Oh it’s nothing really Navi…Just thinking about everything that has happened so far.”

The little fairy dimed her light as she sat on his shoulder with a sigh.

“Well you don’t have to think about it anymore. It’s almost over and then we can go back home finally!”

“Yeah…Guess you’re right about that Navi…”

He had just finished packing up his bedroll when he noticed Emerald had just suddenly stopped moving.

“Wha-?!”

He frowned a bit when he saw that she almost dropped the pouch containing the three Spiritual Stones they both worked so hard to collect. Emerald was never clumsy or careless like that.

“Emerald?”

She was making sure the bag was secured at her hip when she looked up at him.

“I really think we should be heading to that temple now Link…”

She walked passed Link and Navi causing the little fairy to flutter her wings rapidly before darting out in front of Link, lower her light even more to be seen.

“I don’t like that girl and I still don’t trust her! She’s awfully strange and she is always talking to herself! Can’t we just take the stones and finish this ourselves!?”

Link just chuckled as he carefully cupped his hands around Navi. With her light down so, one could see she was a small pink haired maiden with pink eyes.

“She’s alright Navi! If it weren’t for her, we wouldn’t have collected the Stones in the first place. And she isn’t truly talking to herself…She says she can hear the spirits of the wind.”

Navi crossed her arms as she landed in Link’s open palm. She stomped her tiny foot and hmphed loudly.

“Spirits of the wind my foot! Hmph! That Emerald is hiding something…”

Link just shook his head, already used to Navi’s wild accusations against Emerald. Navi hasn’t liked Emerald since day one and has been trying her hardest to get them to part ways. Sure Emerald was a bit strange and mysterious in her own right, but Link knew in due time that Emerald would finally tell him about herself. He caught up to her and smiled when she took his offered hand.

“Hey Emerald?”

She turned around with curious eyes as they walked out of Zora’s River hand in hand as Navi mumbled from under his hat.

“Yeah? What’s up Link?”

He was about to say something when a flash of light caught him off guard. The expansive Hyrule field changed into what looked like a barren place full of shallow water and dead tree in the center. He looked around, confused as to what just happen when he noticed a young woman was leaning against the dead tree with her head hanging down and her eyes closed.

She had hair like Emerald, but he didn’t see wings like his friend had. He slowly stepped closer to her to see if she was alive when she twitched some. Slowly, as if she were a Re-Dead, her head rose and a pair of twin blue eyes met.

“Boy…how did you get in here? You have to leave…”

“I-I dunno how I got in here…”

She began to cough and Link noticed it was blood. He rushed over to her to find that she was impaled by a blade in her stomach. He let out a terrified squeak as the woman held onto the blade slowly killing her.

“Yo-…You have to run boy…this temple is beyond dangerous…”

“Wh-What about you!? You’re hurt!”

He pulled off his hat and was digging around to find a red potion as she just gave a weak laugh. Blood was slowly trickling down the side of her mouth as her blue eyes slowly became dull. Her life was leaving her.

“Sorry…don’t mean to upset you boy, but this is where my adventure ends it seems…My only regret is that I am leaving him all alone to face this…Hey, boy…If you ever get out this place…Can you tell Link that Emerald…”

“Hey! He’s finally coming to!!”

Link slowly opened his eyes to find himself looking at what appeared to be a blackened sky. He sat up quickly, but a wave of dizziness had him holding his head. He managed to look around to see that Hyrule Marketplace was set ablaze!
