Mega Man Star Force: Through the looking glass.
Summary: What if the series took place several years later than we are introduced to it? What if the characters were more.. human, subject to the varied range of emotion and the depths to which we either aspire or dread to fall into? Lets take a look and see just how twisted this alternative universe can turn out...
Chapter One: Returning echoes.
Pairing this chapter: Minor/small Geo/Hope scene.
Echo Ridge, 221X
The bus arrived at just after ten o'clock that night. As it slowed down and glided to a halt beside the designated sign I was already being lifted to my feet by the guards and ushered toward the doorway. The cuffs holding my hands behind my back remained firmly attached, not that I expected them to be removed yet anyway. The son of a bitch in charge of things, Bob Copper, prodded me out onto the slightly damp grass. "One more incident and you're back in until you're old and gray." he warns me in a grave tone. I very nearly open my mouth to tell him where he can go with that statement but decide it's better not to tempt fate. Just because the judge ordered me to be confined to house arrest unless accompanied by an adult with link power of 500 or more doesn't mean Copper will follow through if I push him any harder.
He walks at my left side with one hand gripping the upper arm unnecessarily harder than the situation called for. Behind us walk the two prison guards assigned to my area of juvenile hall. Kind of funny how what used to be viewed as a secure place to hold and revise punk-kids has evolved into misery incarnate for those assigned DeepSpace Detention, a.k.a. Attempted Murder Holdings. In most cases its worse than actual prisons for adults because the effort was to, and I quote, "Break you down and rebuild you from the corrupted fragments into an individual capable of keeping the peace and law once released in two to five years." Sometimes that worked, sometimes you got sent on to a federal prison once your lease was up. And then, once in a blue moon, sometimes you got lucky and released as whole as possible.
I guess I oughta look back on what got me into this situation in the first place; a little over four years ago the space station dubbed Peace was launched. My dad was on it, Kelvin Stelar, and it wasn't long before trouble occurred. All contact with it was lost and remnants soon crashed back into our atmosphere. Two weeks later and a funeral was held for those involved. No one knew what had happened, not even the pricks responsible for Peace's launching. I was shattered by the news, but soon found something to get me going again, and it sure wasn't friendship. Anger, a need to make sure someone's ass was taken out for the grand fuck up that was the Peace launching. Perhaps not so luckily for me, Aaron Boreal, the bastard who was in charge of the mission land-side, turned up at the funeral. Target for wrath acquired. I might have only been thirteen, but anger and adrenaline are a very good motivator in helping over come size and weight difference. Needless to say I was dragged off of his bloody and unconscious form, sent before the court, and sentenced to DSD.
While I was thinking about events in the past we made quick work of the distance and I finally realized we were standing in front of a house I had no trouble recognizing, even in the dark. It used to be my home. Now its to be my new prison. Copper releases my arm 'which will no doubt be well bruised in the morning' passes through my mind, and he orders the guards to undo the handcuffs. I let out a low sigh of pleasure once I can move my shoulders from the stiff position they were stuck in for the last four hours and massage the wrists where the steel had bit into them. Copper knocks on the door. After several moments it slides open and I can see my mother standing in the doorway, her outline illuminated by the lamp behind her. I have to admit, the outfit she chose was not one I would have expected her to wear knowing I was being returned home tonight.
A pale blue robe was left hanging mostly open just above the waist with one end of the sash still held in hand limply over a mostly shear white nightie that ends a couple of inches above her knees. She lets out a little gasp at the sight of us standing on her porch and manages to cover up more as she finishes tying up the robe. "G-geo?" she asks in a low whisper, looking at my face as though seeing a ghost. Words fail me as a fair amount of my blood was rushing downstairs and in these pathetic orange uniforms, sweat pants and sweat shirts, the hardon is not hard to spot. Copper coughs into one hand and stares pointedly just above her neck- but not quite meeting her eyes, either. "Uh, Mrs. Steler, did you get the email to your Star Carrier?" he questions her in turn.
She blinks a couple of times in quick succession and turns toward him, face still locked into that surprised, almost horrified yet longing expression. "What email?" she finally manages to get out. Now its his turn to look surprised. He drags out his own Star Carrier and a few moments later lets out a low curse. "My apologies, Mrs. Steler. I never sent the message." after a moment he has it sent just to confirm the details of my house arrest. "You can read the full details of Mr. Stelers release into your care again in that email, but to summarize: His lease has expired after four years, and he is expected to make better progress in his local area than confined in the DSD block. He is confined to this house unless accompanied by an adult with a Link Power of no less than 500. The ankle-band will ensure he does not leave the property on his own unnoticed." Copper finishes and digs into his coat for a couple of items that he hands over to her.
They are: my seemingly ancient Transer, the sunglasses the jackass responsible for my fathers failed mission gave to me at the funeral, and the oddly shaped golden pendant my father gave me before he went on said failed mission. With that he motions for me to walk inside. I linger on the doorway for a few moments, my final act of annoyance to him, and from his expression I can tell I've succeeded. My mother steps out of the way for me, watching me from the corner of her eyes with a look I can't quite place. Once I'm on the property Copper types something else into his Star Carrier and a low beeping sound comes from the band around my left ankle as a green light there flashes to red. "Good night, ma'am." he says and turns to walk away with the guards following behind.
She shuts the door and turns to face me, setting the items down on a nearby table. "... Geo..." she murmurs softly. "... Uh.. hey." I answer uncertainly. Sure its wrong, but my minds still preoccupied with the sight she gave us a few minutes ago. "Your really home..." she trails off and steps close, running one hand down from my hair to my cheek. "Your a man now..." the touch sent a shiver down my spine and I notice her eyes look a little deeper, a little darker, than they had when she first opened the door. "You look just like your Kelvin..." she state's as she steps closer slowly. We're about even in height, and she keeps inching toward me, leaning forward and finally pressing our lips together. Hers; soft, smooth, cool. My own; rough, uneven, warm.
I don't notice that just yet, however. My mind just entered lockdown mode at a) a mature woman kissing me, and b) said woman being my mother! Completely unprepared for this kind of greeting I allow her to press me up against the nearest wall for several seconds before I realize just exactly what is going on. 'I'm betraying dad.' that thought races through my mind and manages to kick the rest of my mental and motor functions into gear. Reaching up to grab her by the shoulders I promptly push her out to arms length. "W.. what are you doing?" I ask in a low voice of confusion and minor anger. She looks at me with equal confusion for a moment before her look descends into one of horror and she tugs free of my grip and backs away "Oh, god, what did I just do?" she whispers to her self softly, eyes wide.
"..." Her taste lingers on my lips, something like mint I'd eventually guess was from her toothpaste, but at the moment I'm a little more preoccupied. "Uh.. that was.. shit." flushing with embarrassment, I snatch my items off the table and haul ass out of the living room. I'm hoping my room hasn't been changed much. That just about comes crashing down as I slide the door open and come face to face with a man I nearly killed. "Hope, whats going o--" his question is halted in it's tracks as he see's just who is standing before him. His eyes harden as his face becomes blank. "Geo." he says evenly. The fact that he is wearing only a pair of briefs allows me to easily put two and two together to realize what's been going on while I was away.
I feel the same anger rising up now that I did four years ago, but before I can do a thing he has already taken preemptive action; two simple strikes put me down on the floor with my mind reeling. "I take it your time has expired." Aaron states flatly as he walks around my prone form and approaches my mother. Whatever is said is done so in whispers. A few minutes later and he returns to what was my room and slides the door shut. Hope approaches me and closes her eyes as she begins explaining just what has taken place since I was away: About a year ago they got married. So, my fathers best friend is now screwing his wife and my mother. Oh, joy. His lab has been moved into the house so he rarely has to leave. More advances have taken place in technology since I was gone thanks to him, but I don't really give a fuck at the moment. This house will not be where I'm staying for the next three years!
She helps me sit up as the numbness where his blows had landed begins fading away. "I'm not staying here." I tell her flatly. She turns her head away to look out a window as she gives her response. "Where will you go? You don't have anywhere, Geo. It's this or.. back to prison. A real prison." with that she stands up and approaches what I assume has become their bedroom. "Theres a spare blanket in the closet, and for now you'll have to sleep on the couch. Please, Geo, don't make things any harder than you did four years ago." with those parting words she closes the door. What the hell did I do to deserve this?
A/N: Chapter one completed. I've been meaning to finish this for ages, but never got around to it. The chapter itself was supposed to contain Geo/Luna later into it, but with how long it's taken already I figured it would be better to just get the story up at all and work on that later.
