I do not own Knights of the Old Republic, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Memories
AN: This is a work of FICTION! Like I said above, I don't own any of the Star Wars universe or any of it's characters. Also, this is a work in progress, so the ratings and warnings may change for later chapters. I just thought that we needed another Bao-Dur/LSF Exile story. And this story is also presumeing that Revan was cannon - ie: LSMale Revan. This is also my VERY first fanfiction, so bear with me. All of my other stories have been original. So please forgive me if I get some details wrong! Anyway, Enjoy!
Darkness. That which is devoid of all light. Or so they would like you to believe.
Looking out the portal window into the vastness of space, she remembered when she first heard the sermons of the Jedi Masters. They had proclaimed to all those present that it was either one or the other. And once you started down the path of the ‘Dark Side’, your entire life would be ruled by the mysterious force.
Then how do they explain Revan?
He was a Jedi Knight, praised for his leadership and quest for knowledge even before the wars. Then, something happened.
No, not something.
They happened.
Somewhere, deep inside the dark planet of Malachor, Revan found the teachings of the Sith. And when the war ended, he became that what he most hated.
A Lord of the Sith.
The Jedi Knight known as Revan died on that planet, and in his place, rose Darth Revan, leader of the new Sith order.
For years, he and his apprentice, Darth Malak, waged war on the very Republic that he swore to defend.
“No.” Argued the young Jedi Knight. Despite what everyone said or thought, she knew that Revan didn’t fall.
She had once served under the charismatic Jedi, rising quickly in his ranks to attain the title of ‘general’. She was there on that horrible day when Malachor fell. Even then, she saw the hurt and turmoil in Revan’s eyes when he gave her his orders.
The same turmoil she herself had felt when she gave her loyal friend and subordinate the signal to activate the Mass Shadow Generator. The same turmoil that she saw in his eyes when he entered the code into the counsel that had killed so many people – enemy and ally alike – in such a short period of time.
“Are you alright, General?”
The Jedi Exile turned around quickly to see the worried face of her friend and confident. She smiled shyly as she tried to hide the tears that had formed at her eyes while she was lost in the past.
“I’m fine, Bao-Dur. I must be getting rusty; I didn’t even hear the door open.”
“You looked like you were pretty deep in thought there, General. Thinking of the past or future, this time?”
She smiled softly as she absently wiped the side of her face with her hand, drying what was left of her spent tears. With a few short steps, the handsome Zabrak technician had crossed the distance from the door to where she stood by the window.
“The past, I see. Malachor?”
“How did you guess?” she half laughed as she crossed her arms and turned to continue to look out at the darkness of space.
Bao-Dur took a small step forward, wishing that there was some way he could ease the pain he saw in her face. Reluctant to face her rejection, however, he kept a respectful distance from her warm body.
“That’s the same look that you gave me five years ago, after Lord Revan left the ship.”
“That’s some memory you have, Bao-Dur. I’ve always wondered something, though.”
“And what would that be, General?”
The Exile turned to face him, revealing the tears that still fell down her cheeks from her sad green eyes. The sight nearly crippled him, causing his heart to break all over again. It took all of Bao-Dur’s will power not to rush forward and hold the beautiful Jedi to him.
“Did you ever hate me? I mean, for the order I gave you?”
“Never, General.” Bao-Dur’s voice almost cracked under the weight of his emotions. Against his will, he raised his hand to touch the soft skin of her face.
“Hey, Adriana, are you busy?” Mira said as she came through the open door to the Jedi’s quarters. She stopped mid-step, however, when she saw her and Bao-Dur in a somewhat ‘intimate’ conversation. “Oops, sorry! The door was open, and I thought…”
“Don’t worry about it Mira. *Ahem*… I’m fine.” Adriana quickly said, stepping away from Bao-Dur and closing the distance between her and the newest addition to their group. “Was there something you needed?”
“Uh… Yeah! I just wanted to show you the new grenade I made! You said you were looking for something with some more ‘punch’, so I came up with this!” Mira said excitedly as she handed the small round device over. “When it goes off, it not only will do some damage, but it also has a flash node inside of it. This way, if we miss or someone doesn’t get a good hit, they’ll be stunned.”
Adriana looked over the device carefully, making sure not to activate the explosive prematurely. When she handed it back, her usual calm and happy smile took over her face once more.
“Good work, Mira! This’ll help against the Sith soldiers that we run into. Their armour is pretty tough to get through unless you’re packing a Cryo-ban or something similar.”
“Thanks! Actually, Bao-Dur over there helped me come up with it. The guy is pretty handy when it comes to technical stuff.” Mira joked offhandedly, obviously either unaware of what she had interrupted, or simply not caring.
“General, that reminds me. I promised to do some upgrades for T3 before we arrived on Telos.” The tall Zabrak explained hurriedly, being careful not meet the Jedi’s eyes. Before Adriana could stop him, he was gone down the corridor in the moment it took to blink.
“Sheesh… I wonder what’s wrong with him?” Mira questioned after he left, feeling somewhat dejected that he didn’t stay to look over her new creation. After all, when she saw Bao-Dur walk towards the Jedi’s quarters, she thought that it would be great way to show them both.
“I wonder…” The Jedi exile whispered, a faraway look in her green eyes.
*****
A series of beeps and whistles greeted Bao-Dur as he entered the engine room of the Ebon Hawk.
“Are you ready for those repairs?” Bao-Dur was trying hard to control his emotions even in front of the small utility droid. However, with the continued beeps that the droid made, he knew that he was failing in hiding how he felt.
“What do you mean? I’m feeling fine. But I didn’t come here looking to chat, T3.” He snapped at the droid. Low-pitched whirls emitted from T3, almost seeming upset at Bao-Dur’s reaction.
Bao-Dur sighed heavily, knowing that he had no right to snap at the droid like that. He mind was still racing from his talk with the General, however. After coming so close to touching her soft skin, only to be interrupted by Mira…
“Sorry, I guess I’m just tired. I think that I might just go lay down for a while. You okay for a few hours?”
T3-M4 beeped happily and turned back to the engine he was inspecting. Inspite of himself, Bao-Dur smiled at the small combination of metal and wires. No matter what, droids could always be counted on. Even with personality quirks, nothing really affected them like it did to organic beings.
Well, HK-47 seemed to enjoy killing as much as any Sith or Mandalorian out there. But, he was a special case.
Lifting his one organic arm to the back of his neck, he rubbed at the sore and tender muscles that had developed over the years. Groaning softly at the tension he felt, he thought that he might as well get some rest before they landed. True, they were only heading back to gather some supplies before moving on. However, trouble always seemed to follow on the General’s heels and he wanted to make sure that he was alert and ready in case something did happen.
Walking through the corridors of the ship towards his bunk, he began to let his thoughts wander. Even after five years apart, the Jedi Exile known as Adriana – or simply ‘General’ as he preferred to call her even now – still elicited the same feelings inside of him as they did back during the war.
Bao-Dur had fallen in love with the beautiful blonde-haired woman the moment he first met her when she assumed control of his unit. Her very presence made his chest tighten and his palms sweaty. During the time that they served together, he slowly learned more and more about her.
The others on the ship felt displaced when they were passed over in favour of the young Jedi Knight. Many had severed the Republic for years, fighting in the war since the very beginning.
But when Lord Revan brought the Jedi on board and explained that she would be taking over command of the vessel after their last general died when a conduit exploded, a lot of people were upset that they were passed over. She couldn’t have been more than 25 years old at time, and she was now in command of people twice her age.
It would take time for the others to see why Lord Revan had appointed the young Jedi. In many ways, she was like Revan herself. Her mind for battle and strategy won them many small battles in the beginning.
Yet despite the hard and sometimes cruel command that she led, Bao-Dur saw something else in her eyes every time she gave an order that held moral repercussions. His people were raised to respect leadership and authority, and that’s exactly what he saw in the Jedi who commanded his unit.
After a while, he would find ways to get talk to her. Offer to relieve her so she could grab a meal or rest for while. Soon, he began to join her in her short breaks from battle. Even though the food was less than ideal, he still offered to sit with her and help get her mind off the war.
Bao-Dur remembered sitting with her, telling her stories from his youth or things he had done in the past. Even now, his heart warmed when he thought of her laughing at his jokes. It was never enough to fully dull the pain that the war caused in either of them, but he was always happy that he was able to give her brief respite.
Then, the awful day that Lord Revan had explained his plans to finally win the battle against the Mandalorians.
The two of them were in her office, hidden behind the closed door. After what seemed like hours, the door opened and Lord Revan left the bridge, heading towards where his ship was docked. After waiting several minutes, Bao-Dur rose from his seat and walked over to her office.
Inside, she sat at her metal desk with her head in her hands. Even from the distance that he stood, he could see the General’s body shaking slightly. He had made a small noise to make his presence known, but he was not prepared to see the look that she gave him when she lifted her head to look at him.
In her eyes, Bao-Dur could almost see all the death and pain that she was ordered to inflict upon the galaxy. He had no idea what Revan had told her, but the look in her eyes froze him in the spot.
It was the same look that she gave him only a few moments ago when he saw her standing in her quarters.
Bao-Dur had originally sought her out to see if she had needed any shields made, wondering if she had used up her supply while in GO-TO’s custody.
Like before, however, the look in her eyes nearly dropped him to the floor.
Pain.
Sorrow.
Death.
Everything that had made her leave the Jedi order and wander the edges of known space for nearly five years.
Bao-Dur ached in his very being to be able to take away her reasons to have that look in her eyes. Yet he knew that Jedi were not supposed to form attachments. He knew that his love for the amazing Jedi Knight would always go unrewarded.
However, that did not stop him when he met her again on the surface of Telos. From that moment, he knew he would follow his General to the ends of the galaxy and back again. Even if all he was to her was a friend and ally.
AN: I know, I know. I promise there will be a lot of sex to come. Think of this as a 'build up' chapter! Also, any advice (or even flames) is welcome seeing as this is my first fanfic.
