How It Feels (To Be With You)

Author’s Note: So, I found my notebook and was able to type up this story, but it’s been changed quite a bit from the original. The song is How It Feels (To Be With You) by Eleventy Seven, and I recommend it to everyone because it’s just so sweet and is rather catchy.

Warnings: Extreme fluff between two men, mentions of Mpreg.

Cloud walked over to the stereo and went to through some CDs before settling on one he assumed must be Sora’s or even Roxas’ because he didn’t remember listening to it, and he was sure Squall didn’t. With the selection problem out of the way, Cloud discovered a new one. Which song should he choose? He put the CD in the stereo and looked at the back of the CDs case to pick a song, sapphire eyes slowly reading each track until they stopped on one Cloud was sure he wanted to listen to.

He pressed the forward button until he came to track number 5 then pressed play. The music that came from the speakers instantly put Cloud in a good mood; the tune was quite bouncy and infectious, very happy. As he listened to the song, Cloud set about cleaning the house, which was what he intended to in the first place. He knew Squall would appreciate the fresh lemon scent that the cleaning solution gave off accompanied by the gleaming wood tile floors from being scrubbed thoroughly. However, Cloud had yet to carry out this backbreaking task and Squall was going to be home in the next couple of hours.

Cloud grabbed a broom humming the catchy tune under his breath as the song finished, the room simulating silence once more. He swept some dirt out from under the coffee table then put the song back on, having become quite fond of it. As the song started its quiet whoosh, followed by the artist’s young, and slightly boyish sounding voice, Cloud decided to take a shot at singing along.

Cloud stepped back a few paces, clutching the broom handle in both hands as he tried to copy the singer’s voice, “Just like it’s snowing in the summer time something’s different, and I can’t explain it.”

He was a little distracted by the song now as he took his time sweeping at the small pile of dirt he made.

“It’s like I’m breathing in sunshine it’s taking over and I can’t contain it.” Cloud was completely oblivious to the sound of the door opening and closing, the rustle of fabric as a coat was removed and hung up, followed by the clapping noise of shoes against shiny, but not yet polished wooden floor. Squall stood in the entrance of the living room watching the blond dance around singing and sweeping here and there at the bits of dirt he hardly noticed.

Squall chuckled softly as he walked across the tiled floor, footsteps masked by the loud music. Cloud spun around in a half circle, eyes closed now, and nearly stumbled over the bristles of the broom. Strong arms caught him and placed him upright, bringing Cloud out of his reverie. He blinked and stared in surprise at his husband.

“Why are you—“

“Shhh…” Squall silenced him with a finger pressed against his lips. He could hear the song starting over and smirked slightly, knowing the blond would be even more surprised when he discovered that Squall knew every word to this song.

“Just like it’s snowing in the summer time something’s different and I can’t explain it.”

Cloud’s eyes widened, mouth open as he stared. He had no idea that Squall knew this song, let alone liked it.

“When did you—“

Again, Squall stopped him, “It’s Sora’s CD, but I heard him listening to this song.” He gave Cloud one of his rare smiles. “It’s quite cute.”

Cloud smiled softly. He always knew his grumpy-ass Squall had a heart deep, deep, deep, deep down somewhere in the confines of his stomach. Yes, his stomach.

“Well?”

Cloud blinked, realizing Squall had been talking to him. “Hm?”

“I asked you if you wanted to sing, Strife.”

Cloud blushed, unable to believe what his husband had just said. “Sing...right here…now…with me?”

Squall crossed his arms, chuckling a bit. “Yes Cloud. That’s what I said.”

Cloud stared at him for a few more seconds before smiling broadly and nodding. “I’d love to. I’ll go restart the song.” He gave Squall a quick kiss on the cheek before rushing over to the stereo, started the song over then returned to stand in front of the other man. He listened for the familiar whoosh and smiled up at the brunet who just watched him. “Just like it’s snowing in the summer time something’s different and I can’t explain it. It’s like I’m breathing in sunshine it’s taking over and I can’t contain it.”

Squall listened to his angel sing, waiting patiently for his part. That was one thing about the two men that only their closest friends knew about, Cloud and Squall could decide on things without saying a word, most of the time. And the decision for whom singing which part was one of those times. As Cloud finished his, Squall breathed in gently and let the music envelope, getting lost in its fast, happy beat as he sang softly and deeply.

“This love is changing me it brought me to my knees now it’s teaching me to fly.” He paused, taking both Cloud’s soft hands in his own rough ones. Their eyes locked, stormy grey with ocean blue and his voice grew a little louder. “That’s how it feels to be with you. It’s like I’m finally alive. That’s how it feels to be with you.”

It was Cloud’s turn to sing again, blushing as Squall held their gaze, hands still holding his. He stared deeply into Squall’s eyes before slowly shutting his own and feeling close to the same sensation Squall had felt as he allowed himself to be swept away in the contagious beat of the music, his mind filling with the sweet lyrics.

“I always thought I was invincible I never knew that I was waiting on a break through. My heart was only always half-full until the moment that I finally found you. It’s everything I dreamed even more it seems to fall into your arms. That’s how it feels to be with you. It’s like I’m finally alive. That’s how it feels to be with you.”

As Cloud sang, Squall took it upon himself to pull the blond a little closer, wrapping an arm around his waist. Neither movement did anything to disrupt the melodious singing, in fact, Cloud only sang louder, every word rising from deep inside his chest, coming straight from the heart. The perfect words to describe Cloud’s love for Squall.

Now their shared lines,

“How it feels,”

“My heart can’t deny.”

“How it feels.”

At the same time,

“That’s how it feels to be with you. It’s like I’m finally alive. That’s how it feels.”

Individual,

“How it feels to be with you.”

“Dunno how my heart can deny,”

“How it feels to be with you,”

Same time again,

“I can never get enough.”

Individual once more,

“How it feels,”

“To be with you,”

“I can never get enough,”

“How it feels,”

“To be with you.”

The last part of the song they sang together finishing with a deep kiss that nearly lasted a minute. When they pulled away, looking into each other’s eyes and breathing hard, chests rising and falling with each deep breath, both Cloud and Squall knew that those words described how the other felt perfectly.

Their love compared to beautiful sunny day only to be interrupted abruptly by a light snowfall explained the strange feelings the other had upon setting eyes on one another. The uncertainty and uncomfortable feelings of their relationship being one of two males didn’t make the situation any easier because of Cloud’s parents and the way the school and the rest of the town felt about it, but in the end the snow receded and the sun triumphed over the sky. Cloud and Squall dated throughout high school and during their first year of college Cloud had somehow gotten pregnant and discovered that the men on his father’s side had screwed up genetics and were able to produce children. So it seemed a long line of homosexuality ran in the family as well.

The rest of the lyrics described how Cloud and Squall felt throughout their years of struggle, enduring name-calling, the hatred and anger of the people who didn’t understand that homosexuality was nothing to be afraid of, that it was just different because two of the same gender was dating. Before Cloud met Squall he didn’t exactly feel invincible, but he had friends and was happy, but at the same time, there was something missing. A gap in his heart that begged to be filled by someone special made Cloud wonder if he would ever find someone.

But he did.

And both of them were brought to their knees, in every sense, with the love they felt for each other.

The love Squall for Cloud didn’t really teach him how to fly, but it gave him the feeling that he could. Hell, when his stormy grey eyes fell on Cloud that fateful day he felt like he could do anything. But he didn’t. Squall rarely showed his emotions, unless it was extreme anger, which was usually directed toward his friends and idiot cousin Zell. But meeting Cloud slowly changed that aspect of Squall over the years. It was Squall who had bought a silver ring with a single diamond in its center. It was Squall who swallowed his pride, approaching Cloud after discovering that his boyfriend was pregnant with twins, and proposing to him the same night at a restaurant.

It was their ongoing love for the other that kept them together for all of 13 years, raising two little boys that grew into adorable teenagers, adorable and mischievous teenagers.

Of course, Cloud and Squall had their fights like every couple do, but when Sora and Roxas thought this night would finally be it, their parents would finally separate having enough of each other, they would be surprised. Cloud would apologize crying quietly, or Squall would apologize and hold his crying angel. Whichever it was, the two men always made it through.

The living was silent for a long time. Squall was holding Cloud gently, his chin resting on Cloud’s head. Both of their eyes closed. That was what the two boys saw as they got home from school, stepping into little hallway and peering into the quiet living room. Sora smiled softly, glancing at his twin who had an identical smile on his own face. Wordlessly they backed away from the loving scene before them and headed quietly to the stairs, going to their room.

The two adults stayed in the other’s embrace, neither noticing their sons were home, nor caring if they had.

In that short moment, it was as if Squall and Cloud had fallen in love all over again.

Cute eh? I know it doesn’t exactly fall under any of the hardcore categories of AFF but I rather enjoy how easy it is to add stories and update profiles and stuff compared to FF.net.

Review and give me your opinion on it. Thanks. ^^
