Living On

Chapter One

Asiling slammed back another drink- she'd stopped counting a while ago. She was drinking to fill the space- the void- that his death had left. There wasn't really enough ale, mead, wine or what have you to fill the hole. She knew it perfectly well. Just like she knew throwing herself into battle day after day was not going to let her forget for more than a few frenzy filled moment that someone dear to her had crossed into the twisting nether and it was her fault. But she wasn't about to let the facts get in the way. So here she was late into the night - what there was of it in Hellfire Peninsula- drinking instead of sleeping, staring into the empty tankard after wards as if it would suddenly speak to her in a voice she'd never hear again. The old priest was ranting again up at the bar- he, the innkeeper and herself were the only people left in the bar room- the vendors that usually populated the place having gone hours ago. She hadn't bothered to take off her armor after coming in from the field and no one wanted to argue with a blood splashed paladin whose hand rested far too casually on the handle of her gore crusted mace. Her tankard had been kept full all night and she stood up a little unsteadily planning on getting it filled again. The innkeeper reached for the bottle again as she thunked her tankard onto the bar. The old priest looked at her blurry-eyed and snorted.

"Can't hold your drink, youngster- not like me!" He turned back to stare morosely at the wall and kept muttering to himself inanely. The innkeeper reached for her mug but a hand was palm down on the top of it. Asiling gripped the handle of her mace tightly. She growled- eager for a fight- for anything that might make her pain less.

"No- she can't. She's had enough." She loosened her mace and brought up in a sudden sharp movement that would crush the jaw of the person denying her the pain dulling alcohol. A wicked looking dagger parried her swing and she felt a binding pain in the back of her skull. The room went dark as she felt herself being hoisted armor and all into her attacker's arms.

"You paladins and your responsibility complexes...idiots." She heard the murmured phrase over the vague noises that the innkeeper and the old priest were making. The familiar voice brought tears to her eyes as she faded out of consciousness.

She stood in front of the grave- it was nothing special except for the slowly wilting flowers that decorated it and a stone newer than the rest here. The rain hadn't stopped falling for twp days now and she was glad. It felt right that nature should grieve along with her. In truth it felt like the world should no longer turn at all. Like everything should have simply stopped that one moment for all of the world as it had for him. She wasn't sure what she was doing here anyway- she was a healer and the person in that grave was far beyond her help. But she could have stopped what had happened- if only she'd known before it was too late. Perhaps she could have cured him- saved him somehow. If only he'd told her sooner. Asiling crumpled to the ground- chest heaving as she knelt at the foot of her friend's grave. If only, if only- the thought chased it's self around in her head.

They'd been hunting undead in The Plaguelands something she was very good and enjoyed immensely. He'd seemed worn and drawn one morning- preferring to stay at their camp in an abandoned town far to the north. She'd agreed casually- she could easily finish up the job they'd been sent on by herself and they'd be back in Stormwind or Ironforge by nightfall. Plenty of time for him to rest if he needed it and he could rely on her protection and his own talents at moving undetected to get them safely back. So she'd headed out all confidence and sass- finishing up the job and collecting a few handy bits and bobs that the massed forces at Light's Hope had asked her to keep and eye out for.

But when she'd returned a few hours before sundown it was already too late. Her companion hadn't been worn out with too much traveling or adventuring. He'd had the plague- that deadly illness that had claimed the lives of so many. She might have cured him- or even resurrected him had she been in time. But by the time she returned it was far too late for that... Pandaris, her friend, guild-mate and a human to whom she was as close as a brother was not just dead but undead...

Asiling woke up in pain and gently laid both hands on her cheeks praying for healing. She felt the warm golden tingle flowing over her and sighed- Flash of Light did wonders for a hangover. Still her head felt unsteady as she sat up. She was naked under the thin sheet, but very warm since the dark hued body sprawled next to her was also nude and radiated heat like a volcanic vent. She looked over and stifled a shriek as she registered that there was some one in the bed with her. A split second later she pinned under the other person with a dagger pushing into the point of her throat. She swallowed the lump in her throat feeling a trickle of blood there. She remembered slowly the last few moments of the night before. Through his black bandage she could nevertheless feel the night elf rogue looking at her as he pulled the knife back.

"McStabbers..." He rolled back off of her and sat up as unselfconscious naked as he was clothed and secure with a dagger in hand. Her sometime lover had put on muscle here in The Outlands and she couldn't help giving him an appreciative once over.

"You startled me. I got a letter from Isen saying that you weren't well. I didn't think he meant you'd turned into a wine-sodden idiot." She glared at him- he hadn't been there- didn't have the powers she did. He couldn't understand.

"What I do is no business of yours. It's not like you care if I'm less than a credit to my guild or church!" She lept out of the bed and strode across the room to the hat she'd gotten from a dwarf for some trifle or another and rummaged around for in it for a moment before pulling a flask out of it and draining the flask in one go. The alcohol hit her system and she felt suddenly dizzy. The floor rose to fill her vision and bile rose in her throat. Through the distracting sensation of the room whirling around her head she heard McStabbers rise from the bed. He scooped her up with an exasperated sigh and chided her with a murmur.

"Didn't you heal yourself? I must have hit your head harder than I thought- you're so hard headed it shouldn't make any difference. We'll clean you up and then you can heal yourself again." Asiling seethed inwardly- even though he deserved it she was afraid if she did open her mouth she'd be sick all over both of them. He carried her to the bathroom and deposited her more or less gently in the tub ignoring her pained groan. The hot water hit her like a ton of bricks distracting her long enough for McStabbers to climb in with her and pull her onto his lap. Groggy and dizzy she didn't resist as he washed her shoulders and arms, clever fingers stroking her breasts and teasing her nipples until she squirmed in his arms. He only chuckled wickedly when she moaned and ground her ass against his hard cock. After teasing her until she thought she couldn't take anymore he continued washing down her stomach urging her to lift first one leg and then another up so he could lather it with soap- slowly sliding his fingers up the inside of her thigh and stopping just before her aching pussy. With all the shifting to wash her legs his dick had ended up pressed against her nether lips. It relieved a little of the ache but made the rest so much sharper. When he'd had her lean forward to wash her back she slid her own hands down to stroke him, and tease her tight little clit. She bit her lip to keep from moaning as his breath hissed out between his teeth.

"Ah ah," He growled catching her hands in one of his and pulling them over her head.

"This is a bath- we are in here to get clean- Not to be dirty, little Paladin." He slapped her lightly on the pussy with the hand that had held the soap and she cried out but she couldn't have said if it was in pain or pleasure. Her hips rose as he slapped her again, harder this time. Then his fingers were teasing apart the lips of her pussy and he was laughing softly in her ear.

"You're drenched, Asi, is there something you want?" McStabbers teased as he slid a finger into her. She moaned and ground against his hand- she felt light-headed, boneless in his grip. Even though he was still holding her hands above her head she couldn't have struggled- all she could do was moan as he pushed her closer and closer to climax. Light burst in front of her eyes as she came. He let go of her hands and she pressed one to her forehead healing the last of her hangover. As the healing magic flashed through her she felt another orgasm washing over her and for a few endless seconds everything went white, gold and honey-sweet.

Asiling sagged in his grip as the night elf rogue adjusted her hips and slid his cock into her in one hard thrust. Her tail wrapped around his leg and she braced her arms on rim of the tub while the pressure built with each thrust inside her until she felt like she might come apart under the strain of it. She gasped for breath that wouldn't come and bucked against his hands hold her hips still. She felt more than heard his growl as his rhythm broke and his last few thrusts sent her over the edge into the free fall of an orgasm. His hand stroked her hair once and she felt him heft himself out of the tub, chuckling under his breath.

"Be in Shattarath in a week- the guild meeting is in the Lower City. And Asiling- stop beating yourself up." By the time she got back to her room he was gone with no sigh he'd been but a goose-egg on her head and a faint ache between her legs.
