Just Friends?
“No one would miss me,” Roxas said dejectedly as he turned to walk away.
“That’s not true,” Axel replied quietly, “I would.”
Hearing the redhead’s response, Roxas glanced over his shoulder at his friend, seeing him sadly leaning against the wall. His expression softened as he noticed Axel’s eyes well up with tears.
“Axel?”
The redhead looked up at the sound of his name and, trying to cover up his crying, he said,
“What?”
In response, Roxas tightly hugged his friend, burying his face in Axel’s chest.
“Are you alright?” the redhead asked, putting his arms awkwardly around # 13.
Looking up at Axel, Roxas felt his own eyes fill with tears as he said,
“Would you really miss me?”
“Of course,” # 8 replied, his fingers threading through Roxas’s light hair comfortingly.
Number 13’s defenses broke and the tears poured down the front of Axel’s robes freely.
“Roxas?” the redhead whispered soothingly as Sora’s nobody clenched fistfuls of his friend’s robes.
“D-d-don’t leave m-me, Axel!” # 13 stuttered desperately.
“I won’t,” the redhead assured, lifting Roxas’s chin, “I will never leave you.”
At these words, # 13 cried even harder and buried himself in Axel’s robes again.
The redhead pulled his friend closer and rested his chin on Roxas’s head, his arms wrapping entirely around Sora’s nobody.
Sobbing, # 13 pushed his body into Axel’s, making # 8’s back come in contact with the brick wall.
Once the sobs stopped and the tears ceased to flow, Roxas gazed up at his friend, saying,
“I don’t know what I’d do if you left.”
“Don’t worry,” Axel replied, “I’m not going anywhere.”
The younger nobody smiled weakly and the redhead continued,
“Let’s get you cleaned up.”
“That’s not true,” Axel replied quietly, “I would.”
