On the outskirts of Castle Town in the dead of night, a raggedy figure cloaked in black dashed to and fro between shadows, clutching a newborn to his chest. It had been no simple task eluding the soldiers; martial law had been declared on the behest of Hyrule’s King, and anyone leaving the municipality would be apprehended on sight… with force if necessary.

While the villagers were not quick to protest his benevolent rule, the ulterior motive behind such an operation was rather baffling to them. Especially considering how most of the soldiers were questioning families about a lost child, a girl in particular…

Well outside of the castle’s towering walls and grand gates, the trifling man stumbled upon his escort, a dark robed knight in obsidian armor, mounted on his equally midnight-haired horse.

“Here,” he gasped, handing off a fully wrapped bundle to the dark rider. He was nearly out of breath, the look of fear etched into his weathered face.

“Make haste,” he said in a scratchy voice, “The King’s men will surely be looking for her.”

Shouts of commotion rang out behind them, and he turned to see that a scouting party was approaching their position.

“Go!!”

With a loud “hyahh”, the young horseman was off, taking with him the greatest treasure of all Hyrule. Man and beast were like a blur on the green fields; there was no hope of the King finding her now.

The shady character stood alone on the road, watching as each bounding gallop of the trusty steed took them further and further away. He prayed to whatever gods looking down from heavens up on high that one day, the girl would claim her heritage.

A flicker of torches burned orange around him.

“You there!” one of the soldiers bellowed. “State your name!”

He turned brazenly to meet them, a wicked sneer from ear to ear. “You are too late.”

The captain of the watch stepped forward, aiming his sword at the minion’s neck, “Do not test me! Where is the child?”

A mad flicker danced across the man’s yellow eyes, “She will bring about the end of all things, and plunge this world into darkness forever more!” he cackled with glee.

The Princess of Shadows…

The Sage of Ruin…

The angel that would one day eclipse the mighty Lord of Darkness himself…
