Here Without You
A hundred days have made me older
Since the last time that I saw your pretty face
A thousand lies have made me colder
And I don't think I can look at this the same
But all the miles that separate
Disappear now when I'm dreaming of your face
Riku sat on his bed in the room that Maleficent had given to him when she took him in, treating him like her own son. She had promised him all kinds of things, like power and Kairi’s heart, but so far she had only kept her promise for one thing. He received power, the power to control the heartless, the power to destroy… but he saw now that power was just another guilty pleasure of his, something he really didn’t need. What he needed, what he really wanted was to see a certain brown haired boy again. Even Kairi didn’t matter to him that much.
Sora.
That name had haunted him forever, ever since he had seen him back in Traverse Town with his new ‘friends’.
He snorted. Those two blundering idiots didn’t even deserve the title friends as far as Riku was concerned.
They would do nothing for him.
Riku on the other hand would comfort him, tell him everything was ok, and not to be scared. He had been scared when the island disappeared, he feared he would never see Sora again. As for Kairi, he wasn’t really all that concerned. She could easily take care of herself, she had attitude and wasn’t afraid to pack a punch.
Sora was different.
Sora was Fragile.
Sora was gone.
I'm here without you baby
But you're still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby
And I dream about you all the time
I'm here without you baby
But you're still with me in my dreams
And tonight it's only you and me
If Riku shut his eyes he could see his best friend. That cute boyish face, with auburn hair sticking out every which way, some even falling his bright sapphire eyes, and he was grinning that cheesy grin he always had on his soft, red lips. The grin that made Riku want to strangle him at times. Then there was the pout. He didn’t know how Sora could do it, but the boy always managed to pull off the best puppy dog look he had ever seen. His eyes would go big and watery and he’d stick his bottom lip out and just stare at him. Not once could Riku ever say no to that.
That pout got him every time.
The miles just keep rollin'
As the people leave their way to say hello
I've heard this life is overrated
But I hope that it gets better as we go
Riku opened his eyes and looked beside him, Sora instantly showing up to fulfill his fantasies of having the brunet there.
Aquamarine eyes filled with tears but he refused to let the illusion see him cry. Sora was smiling at him.
“What’s wrong, Riku?”
Swallow.
“Nothing.”
Sora examined him closely. “You’re crying.”
Choked sob.
“No I’m not.”
I'm here without you baby
But you're still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby
And I dream about you all the time
I'm here without you baby
But you're still with me in my dreams
And tonight girl its only you and me
“Yes you are…”
He reached out and touched Riku’s cheek, his soft fingers gently brushing away a few tears that found their way down his cheek.
Riku swallowed again and looked away.
“It’s ok to cry, Riku. I do it all the time.” He frowned thoughtfully. “I think I even cried when you kept calling me a baby.”
Riku sniffed back some more tears and shook his head. “I am so sorry.”
“Aw, it’s ok, Riku. I don’t care anymore. Besides, it’s just one of the many things that I like about you.”
He swallowed again. “Why should I believe that? You’re only a hallucination.”
Sora’s face fell.
“I’m just talking to myself.”
“That’s not true…” Sora whispered. “Just because I’m in your head doesn’t mean I don’t really feel that way. You know me more than I know myself. I adore you, Riku. I’d like to be just like you if I could.”
Riku clutched his head and shook it. “No! Stop talking to me! Stop telling me lies!”
The brunet drew his knees up to his chin, arms wrapped around them and eyes downcast.
Riku looked over at him and nearly broke down crying. “Don’t do this to me…please. I just don’t want to lose you again.”
“You’ve never lost me.”
“What are you talking about?”
Sora dared to look up at him. “I’ve always been with you.”
Riku was oblivious of the tears that streamed down his cheeks.
“Shut the fuck up!” He yelled. “Just shut up!”
The younger boy winced as he crawled over to Riku and grabbed him by the shoulders. “Listen to me, Riku!”
He looked away. “No.”
Sora frowned and forced Riku to look at him. “I’m always with you. Do you want to know why?”
“Not really…”
“I’ll always be right here.” He pointed to his heart.
Riku looked to where he was pointing and couldn’t hold back any longer. He broke down crying in heavy, heart breaking sobs and wrapped his arms around him.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry!”
Everything I know, and anywhere I go
It gets hard but it won’t take away my love
And when the last one falls
When it's all said and done
It gets hard but it wont take away my love
Sora smiled and returned the hug. “What for?”
He just cried harder.
“There’s nothing to be sorry for, Riku.”
“Then why do I feel so guilty?” He sobbed.
Sora gave him a playful punch on the shoulder. “Hey. No keeping secrets from me. Out with it. What did ya do?”
Riku’s whole body shook with sobs now. “I can’t tell you.”
“Why not?”
He was pouting. Riku knew it without having to look at him.
“I-I joined forces with Maleficent.”
Silence.
“You’re not evil, Riku.”
“I’m not so sure now, Sora. I wanted to get revenge on the ones who replaced me.”
“Donald and Goofy?”
“I guess.”
“They could never replace you, Riku. You’re my number one best friend.”
Riku blinked and looked up at the grinning Sora.
“Nothing can come between us. We’re inseparable.”
He sniffed. “Not even Kairi?”
“Not even Kairi.”
“What about your dream of sharing a paopu fruit with her?”
Sora blushed. “Oh that? Heh, well maybe I have a little crush on her.”
Amazing.
His tears had subsided and he was no longer crying.
Sora sat back on his feet and poked Riku in the forehead. ”You were my friend before she came along, and it’s going to stay that way. Whatever happens, I’ll make sure nothing comes between us.”
Damn him.
Here came the tears again.
“Thanks.” Riku whispered. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Riku…”
I'm here without you baby
But you're still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby
And I dream about you all the time
I'm here without you baby
But you're still with me in my dreams
And tonight girl its only you and me
Riku opened his eyes and stared at the empty spot where Sora had been. He knew it was only his imagination, but somewhere inside of him, he felt as though he and Sora had really been together for those few moments. He placed a hand over his heart and looked up at the ceiling.
“Whatever happens…”

Author’s Note: This story’s been lying around in my documents for a couple of years now, but since I just joined up on AFF, I thought this would be a good story to submit even if it doesn’t have any smut or good stuff like that. It’s only Riku angsting because he hasn’t seen Sora in awhile.
And now that, that piece of useless information is over with, I just want to take the time to say thank you for reading and if you noticed any spelling or grammatical errors, please let me know. ^^
