The World is Black
The World is Black
Author's Note: I like the supernatural. I also have a huge thing for spiritual entities, and this allowed me to mix those two of my favorites things with yaoi! So, LGL's happy, and really loves this. Nothing in this is based off of real events. All characters not from the KH games belong to me or my friends(I'll explain which ones belong to who afterwards). This is the first one-shot in a four part series. Also, there is actually a reason for what Dara does, so no yelling at me for just wanting my character to do that. Because really, I think everyone reading this would agree with me that Sora and girls don't go so well together...
Television/Background noise
"The bomb appears to have been exploded from an outside source, leaving the embassy building in ruins..."
"...Killed six children before leading the police on a high speed chase, using his own two year old daughter as hostage..."
"...Shot into the crowd, releasing over three hundred bullets into the community center visitors. When captured, the killer claimed to have been told by God..."
The television clicked off, and the hospital room was silent. The young boy in the hospital bed brought both hands to his forehead, rubbing his temples. Opening his eyes he swung out of the bed, brown hair limp around his face. Bracing himself against the bed he stood, the room seeming to go fuzzy for a moment as he headed towards the bathroom, staring at the medical sheet tacked to it before going in, ignoring as the paper blew off the door, the info on 'Sora Everheart' floating out the window.
A nurse entered the room, quietly shaking her head as she took in the room, beginning to straighten it up as she spoke to Sora through the door.
"Sora, what have I told you about calling me like that? It aggravates your condition and you know it."
"Yeah, I know. But with everything on the news..."
The nurse pulled the remote from under the bed, blowing a layer of dust off of it with a look of disgust. She waved it in the air at Sora, who snickered, running gel covered fingers through his hair, spiking it up.
"So you figure not having to get up to turn off the TV is worth it?"
He nodded, helping her make the bed with a smirk on his face.
"Come on, what have I got to live for? My folks never visit, and I've spent how many years waiting to die?"
The nurse glared.
"Thirteen years, Sora. But we all know if you didn't use your powers your tumor wouldn't be fatal. You're the only one causing it to be so."
Sora shook his head, sitting back on the bed as the television clicked on, showing one of the morning news programs.
"...Raping the woman before slitting her throat. This is the 6th such incident, marking the killer as...."
The TV clicked off again and Sora leaned back against the pillows, glaring.
"And for good reason. This is all I've ever seen. This world's horrible and..."
He was interrupted as the nurse quickly spoke, her gaze reproachful.
"It's God's plan. He has a reason."
Sora smiled before shaking his head, staring at the ceiling as he answered quietly.
"Then God's not listening to us, Tessa."
Tessa stood quickly, exiting as the TV clicked back on, filling the room with stories of pain in every part of the world.
~~~
"You know, sometimes I really wonder about Sora. He keeps getting more and more obsessed by what he watches on TV."
Tessa sat in the nurse's lounge, sipping her steaming coffee with a look of desperation as she spoke to another of the nurses in the hostel.
"They say he won't live much longer, right? That his brain will just shut down if he continues to use his... well you know. Why doesn't he even try to live?"
"Because he's never lived."
Another nurse spoke up from across the room, taking a sip of her own coffee before continuing her statement as Tessa stared in shock.
"The kid's been here since he was three, and never got along with the other kids. His life has revolved around his 'gift and the news he sees on the television. Not even his parents matter to him because they never visit. You know as well as I do they are so scared of his 'gift' they refuse to see him. The kid just wants to get out."
Tessa frowned, setting her coffee down and stirring in creamer.
"What do you mean, Loki, that he's trying to kill himself? Sora's not like that."
Loki smirked, looking out the window at a group of children playing.
"Perhaps. But you can't take your own life if you never had one. No relationships, friends, family... He probably thinks it'll be better wherever he goes when he dies."
~~~
"Despite the beliefs these men are terrorists, there are currently no plans to..."
Sora clicked off the TV, wincing as a stab of pain split his head. Grasping his head he stood, grabbing a couple of painkillers from a cup on his bed stand and gulped them down, water following them once he had stumbled into the bathroom. Feeling another stab of pain he gasped and stumbled as he headed back to his bed, opening his mind to call for help as he sat, crying in pain. He attempted to pull himself to his feet, clutching the bed sheets so hard his knuckles turned white. Finding no response from his legs or feet, Sora released the sheet, allowing himself to slump down against the dresser, breathing shallowly as his sight went black.
~~~The After-realm, World of the Dead~~~
~~The Forest for Magical Creatures~~
Dappled light shown through the leaves when Sora opened his eyes, his head leaning back to see the sky as he sat against a tree, body at rest. Looking around confused, he thought about how strange it was they had moved him into the forest, and looked down at himself, only to be surprised again. A small fox was sitting on his lap, white paws resting on his thighs as it looked up at him and its many tails brushing softly against his legs. Sora blinked for a second, then realized that not only had his locale changed, but also his outfit. He wore now a pale green tunic and soft brown pants, an outfit he had never worn before. Looking down at the fox, Sora grinned, speaking softly.
"Is this where you go when you die, little fox? Am I in heaven?"
The fox yipped, a plume of smoke bursting out of her as the weight on Sora's legs grew. When the smoke disappeared a young girl with black hair sat in the fox's place, a wide grin on her face and small silver ears in her hair. Leaning down, she lightly kissed Sora, jumping back and laughing as the boy freaked out. A feminine voice called out, laughter evident in it.
"Dara, what have we told you about bothering the new arrivals?"
Dara, the fox-girl, nodded, smirking, then ran into the woods, leaving Sora alone with a young woman who had arrived out of the trees, not looking at Sora, she began to speaking in a hissing language, finishing up and turning to smile at Sora. Upon seeing him, however, her expression turned to one of confusion.
"Huh? Are you human?"
Sora looked at her confusedly, then nodded, smiling slightly. The woman looked up to where a small purple parrot rested in the tree, calling him down.
"Om! Will you take this boy to the Judge of the Dead?"
"Okay, Ir."
She turned her attention back to Sora, speaking calmly even as the boy stared in shock at the talking parrot.
"Kiddo, this isn't the place for you. I'm gonna have my husband take you where you belong, okay?"
Sora nodded, blinking in confusion and surprise, then stood, following the parrot out of the forest mechanically.
~~Past the Gate of the Dead~~
"Meh. What are you doing here, Om? You never visit."
"No duh. I'm responsible for the forest."
"Oh yeah."
A young man lounged in a chair before them, the NPBoy in his hands beeping fervently as he played, eyes on that and not Sora and Om. Sora was rather, well, shocked by this entire situation. He had never been a spiritual person before his death, and finding out now that his spiritual guide was a purple talking parrot, and the judge of the dead seemed more interested in playing video games then judging people was… unsettling, to say the least. Looking around the fairly plain room he noticed a pair of young women playing chess in one of the corners, arguing softly with each other. Looking back at the ‘judge’ he questioned calmly.
“So… What happens next?”
“Hmm…?”
The ‘judge’ seemed surprised to hear him speak, and straightened up, looking at Sora in amusement as he snapped his NPBoy shut. Smirking, he motioned at the two women and replied.
“Well, those two, when they’re not arguing, give me a report as to what your life was like, then I send you to the place you belong. Since they’re busy, why don’t you just tell me. What was your life in twenty words or less?”
“Umm… Well, I spent most of my time in the hospital, and died because of a tumor. My parents never…”
“That’s twenty words. Did you ever kill anyone?”
“What? No!”
“Oh, good. I hate murderers. Dammit, you two, give me a more detailed report!”
He threw his game at the two women, who turned in unison, and glared at him. One of the two pulled a small notepad from her pocket and read aloud.
“Sora Everheart, no significant sins, very little of interest at all. Minor psychic powers, liked watching the news. No reason to not go to the higher plane.”
The judge grinned at her words, smirking at Sora.
“Hey, kid, wanna job? We could send you to the gods and get you a position as a guardian. We’re kinda in need of more.”
Sora looked at him, confused for a second before nodding, saying aloud, “Okay?”
“Good. When you get there, tell them Markie sent you.”
Markie clapped his hands and Sora’s sight of the room was suddenly gone as darkness closed in on him, transporting him away.
~~The Gods Realm~~
When Sora’s eyes opened again, he was among a small congregation of beings he automatically knew were gods. Opening his mouth to explain what he was doing there, he was interrupted by a six foot tall rabbit.
“It’s okay, we already know why you’re here. You’re to be a guardian, and we’ve already approved it.”
A young woman continued the rabbit’s speech, smiling softly at Sora.
“You’re going to go down to earth as a guardian, to protect and help a person in trouble of falling into major sin. They’re the only person who will be able to see or talk with you, and you will be with them until they are safe from sin.”
Sora nodded, trying to understand this, before asking, “Who is it?”
The final god, a young boy who looked no older then Sora, opened a large book he carried and flipped through it, tracing a finger down the page.
“A young man named Riku.”
Author's Note 2: Okay! Credit where credit is due! Alia, Alara, Dara, Yami, Loki, Tessa, and most other random characters belong to me. Markie and Marii are belonging to mine girlfriend Markie, Ir and Om belong to my friend Eriu, and Trig belongs to my brother. And the NPBoy was all me and my brothers fault, so meh. Don't steal their(or my) characters.
