Shadow lifted his head from his arms. He had been drinking for almost three hours. He had every right to drink especially with the crap he has been through he needs to get wasted. Shadow got up from his chair and stumbled toward the door, but was interrupted “ Uhuh, so you planning on going back to that bitch?” Amos asked. Now Amos wasn’t exactly there, he was more up in Shadow’s head. Shadow developed multiple personalities over the course of the last three years and Amos was one of them. “ Shad, just sit down and ask for a couple more beers, it’s better than going home.” Amos put his hands on Shadows shoulders and led him back to his stool. Amos light a cigar and exhaled the smoke in his mouth. Shadow coughed even though the smoke was all in his head but hey, Shadow is too fucked up to realize that. Amos put out the cigar on his tongue and mocked Shadow “ Oh, please, don’t get your panties all in a bunch. It’s not like the smoke will you. It’s not even real!”
Now, Amos wasn’t exactly an expert at giving advice. Every time he did give his opinion, it seemed to cause Shadow more pain then good. Especially the time Shadow woke up with a hang over on the interstate, that’s just a drunk’s worse nightmare. Amos didn’t exactly resemble anyone but a trench coat with no one in it. Formless, much like Shadow’s mind. “ Shadow, stop drinking you’ve been at it for hours go home!” Sarah ordered. Yeah, Sarah was another one, but at least she can give a two bits shit of Shadow’s feelings. Also her advice wasn’t too shabby also, it’s a shame Shadow doesn’t listen to her more often. Sarah resembled Amy, the one person who comforted him when his wife cheated on him. She was the one who listened to him when his child died in birth. She was an angel, much like Sarah.
Sarah wrapped her arms around Shadow “ Listen Shadow, if you don’t want to go home then at least stop by a hotel. Drinking wont help you forget your troubles.” Amos couldn’t resist but he spat out the wrong information at the wrong time “ Shad, don’t leave. I have seen your wife and she does no miss you. Don’t leave, just drink some more.” Shadow just broke. He left his stool and went over to the bathroom to bitterly sob, followed by vomiting. Amos caught Sarah’s attempt with a sharp slap “ Whaddya doin?” Sarah broke free of her grip “ Amos, you know we can’t wander outside of Shadow’s mind. We don’t even exist!” She stated in frustration. Her words spoke wisdom, that’s for sure. Shadow exited the bathroom and gave Amos a glare, the kind that says “ If you where real, I’d kill you.” And headed outside.
Of course it was raining, just Shadow’s luck. Shadow had things on his mind and the distant screaming of a girl didn’t help. Shadow’s mind snapped, he realized that someone needs his help. Guess drinking beer makes you sluggish after all, even if you are the ultimate life form. Shadow followed the sound and ran through alley ways, off the sides of buildings and even off roof tops. He arrived at the run down apartment. Form the looks of it, he didn’t want to go in there but he knew he had to. He quietly opened the door and started down the halls slowly. Form inside he could hear everything that was going on in everyone’s separate apartments. On his left was a drug deal, on his left was a hooker demanding her money form the client. He could hear it all, but not the girls cries for help. He stopped and pulled out a green emerald from his pant pocket. Shadow concentrated on channeling the power of the jewel to amplify his own hearing. It was working, though it still wasn’t enough. Wait, he locks on to her wimpers. His hearing is amplified to such a great extent, he can visualize what is going on.
The man walked over to the little girl who was bound and gagged and put her on the mattress laying on the floor. He took off the bag on her head reveling the girl to be Cream the Rabbit.
This was not helping Shadow control his temper, but he had to keep focus.
The man took off his mask revealing he was not a man, but a weasel named Nack. He bend down and started to unbuckle his pants.
Shadow stopped right there. Without thinking he harnessed the power of the emerald and warped to the room where the foul deed was taking place. Nack turned around to see Shadow standing there with a look of murder on his face. “ S-Shadow!” He shrieked. Nack threw a punch at Shadow which could have easily dodged, but that would have been if he had not been drunk. Nack was starting to get confident, no one could hit Shadow, and if they did they died a second later. He threw a three-punch combo followed by a spin kick which knocked the crimson hedgehog off his feet. He couldn’t get up, even if he tried. He was too sluggish in his reflex. Nack drew his Colt Single Action Army gun and pumped Shadow full of bullets. Shadow’s world was black.
“ That could have gone better.” John stated the obvious. John was Shadow’s killer instinct. He steps in when Shadow is incapable of fighting for himself. John looked down at Shadow with pity “ You were a great fighter Shadow” he stated “ You could have whooped that weasels ass!” Shadow felt weak and helpless inside, after all he can’t fight to save someone’s life. “ Tell you what? You get your black ass off the ground and I’ll teach you how to fight. I’ll lend you my skills now, but after that you gotta relearn the basics.” Shadow had no choice. Either this or back to hell. Hell was bad the first time around, so he chose to fight.
Nack nearly shit himself once he saw Shadow arise from his bloody corpse, especially with all the wounds healed. Nack tried to land a punch, but Shadow caught it and twisted it up his back and kicked him down. Nack tried to retaliate by sweep kicking Shadow, but all he did was miss when Shadow jumped. Shadow decided it was time to finish this so he stepped on Nacks face and powered up his jet shoe. As the energy released from his shoe it burnt Nacks face to a gross extent, not to mention the room started to smell. Shadow gagged on the smell of burning flesh but later regained his composure. Cream experienced heavy vomiting so Shadow waited until she was done and untied her. Cream threw herself on the crimson hedgehog and cried nonstop. What she wanted to say was thank you but all that came out was incoherent babble. Shadow smiled slightly and said “ Lets go Cream, your mom is wondering where you are.”
