++++ Prologue +++++

It was dark here. A darkness that felt engulfing, an inky void that hid everything other than being intimidating. This darkness would bring a chill down anyone’s spine and even bring a man to tears, though within this abyss of black, there shined a light. This spot of light shined from above, shining with a comforting hope and sanctuary against the uncertainty of the surrounding black.

Within this barrier of light stood a figure, a mere boy no older than 16 years. Despite the intimidating expanse of darkness around him, he stood without hesitation and with a strength that radiated just as bright as the light he stood within. The light above created shimmering highlight in his usually rich brown hair and his clear sapphire colored eyes stared out in defiance against the dark.

Sora stood at the ready, anticipating anything that could be lurking within the blanket of darkness. He wasn’t afraid, for you see; Sora was destined to fight darkness.

Not so long ago he was chosen by the worlds to wield the legendary Keyblade and be their hero of light, to fight the darkness that sought to consume the hearts of the innocent. And yet not so long afterwards, Sora thought that his battles were done. He thought that he had served and completed what he was chosen to do.

It has been almost two years since he last wielded the Keyblade. Two years since defeating the cause of the spreading darkness, the Ansem imposter, Xaonart. Most importantly, two years since returning to the islands with his best friend, Riku.

And yet he was here with the growing feeling that his services were in need again yet since his return to the islands of his home, he has lost the ability to summon the Keyblade to his hands.

The resounding thud of footsteps started to emanate in front of Sora. The echoing rhythmic sound that whoever or whatever was making them indicated that it was coming closer. Sora stood ready to defend himself, hands balled in a fist and held in front of him.

His heart skipped a beat when another light began to shine down no more then a meter from where he stood, yet this light was dimmer and duller. It was gray to the eyes and less inviting compared to the shining radiance of the light Sora found solace in.

A body walked into this solemn light and stopped. Long, almost white, platinum hair adorned the top of this boy’s head. It draped in front of his face just short of passing the tip of his angular nose. Through the strands of hair, a long black strip of cloth covered the usually aqua colored eyes and wrapped around the boy’s head and tied there, with the slack of the cloth falling on the boy’s shoulders.

This familiar boy was clad in a black vest zipped up just at the collar bone. The collar of his vest was turned up and opened up revealing a thin black strap wrapping around the pale neck of the boy with a shining silver buckle fastening it in place. Much like the top of his vest, the bottom opened up revealing a little of the pale skin of the boy’s abdomen. The opening also showed a metal studded belt that held up the boy’s black cargo pants, a chain hanging off his right hip. He wore black and grey sneakers and on his left arm he wore an arm-cover much like the one from back when they had their battle against Xaonart on the Naught, but this time, instead of being white, it was black like the rest of the boy’s attire. Finally, much to Sora’s surprise, Riku held the familiar form of the Oblivion Keyblade in his right hand.

“Riku,” Sora sighed. “What’s going on? Where are we? How did we get here? Hey, how come you have the Oblivian Keyblade?”

Riku stood there silently and threw a small smile at his friend.

“Sora,” he finally began, “I’ll be borrowing Oblivion for a while and… well…” Riku paused, a sad look replacing the smile.

Riku’s tone became more serious, “I brought you here to tell you that… I’m leaving, Sora.”

Sora stood there, not understanding what Riku has said.

“Leaving? What do you mean you’re leaving?” Riku can hear the concern in his friend’s voice.

He looked seriously into Sora’s blue eyes. Despite the blindfold, Riku can see. Maybe not like how others can see, but his vision was what held truth, or at least, it did for Riku.

“It’s been two years, Sora, and even after two years, I feel there’s no place for me here.”

Riku paused, “Our world resides in the realm of light, and with the light shining so brightly, I see things, things that make me wish I was back at that beach shrouded in dimness.”

Riku saw the confusion etched on his friend’s face.

Since returning to the islands with Sora, he thought life would return to the old ways. But as time passed, Riku has observed the ever growing closeness between Sora and Kairi.

Back then, Riku sought after Sora’s attention but really didn’t know why. After Xaonart’s Heartless was defeated, Riku and the King tried to help Sora close the Door to Darkness. It was at that time that Riku’s feelings for Sora were realized.

It hurt to see Sora and Kairi the way they were. It’s not like he hates Kairi. Kairi was like the sister Riku never had. And how can he hate her, she was making Sora happy. What hurt Riku was the realization that he can never be with Sora. Not like how Sora can be with Kairi.

Riku frowned.

“My place is not at the islands. My place is not with our friends. My place is not with you.” It broke Riku’s heart in half to say what he just said, but his heart shattered after watching the disbelief and pain etched on his friend’s face.

“I’m sorry for this, but this has to be done”, ‘because the darkness in my heart grows every time I’m reminded that I can’t be with you,’ Riku finished in his mind.

“And I wish the best for you and Kairi”. Riku had to leave before the shadows in his heart grew larger.

“One more thing, Sora,” Riku turned his back on Sora, the grey light expanding like a road through the darkness that still surrounded them.

“Don’t follow me”

Sora didn’t believe this. And he wanted to protest to his friend’s words.

“…”

Nothing came out. Sora panicked at the realization that his voice seemed to have failed on him. His quivering lips moved to what he wanted to say but a force was keeping his voice from creating the sound he wanted it to.

Sora’s eyes welled with tears, as Riku began to walk away. The grey light behind was consumed in darkness as the Silver haired boy moved forward.

Sora reached out, unable to go after his friend.

‘Don’t leave. Not again!’ his mind screamed.

‘Riku!’

‘Riku!’

‘RIKU!!!!’

++++ End ++++

How was that? -_-
In my honest opinion, i felt something lacking (sigh), BUT on a good note, isn't Riku sooooo fit with a blindfold?! (drools)

Ok... this is a work in progress and comments greatly appreciated. Ok im done
