Tarnished Light
Chapter 1
Riku took a slash across the leg. Xemnas smirked and dashed across the shadowy realm. ”Can you be sure that you aren’t jealous of Sora, Riku?” he laughed. Sora jumped into the air and started to glide towards the last member of Organization XIII. He dropped down and started blocking Xemnas’ attacks. Sora countered and parried lightning fast slashes and stabs. As the Keyblade master fought with the Superior, Riku rushed towards the two. Seeing an opportunity, Xemnas teleported to the side and hit both of the teens with a ball of darkness. “Come on now. I’m starting to think that you two weren’t the ones who defeated my other half.” He snickered.
“You won’t win, Xemnas! We won’t ever give up!” Sora yelled back. They fought again, slicing and dodging in a deadly dance. As last, the Nobody slipped up and was nearly cleaved in half. “Argghh! You accursed fools! You cannot kill me!” Xemnas screamed. With renewed determination, the two friends pressed the attack. The Superior was starting to weaken under the strain of blocking their deadly barrage.
A reflexive swipe from one of Xemnas’ aerial blades caught Sora by surprise and knocked him back. As Riku turned to see what was wrong, their opponent retreated to a safe distance. “Come on, Xemnas! Can’t you remember what it was like before you lost your heart? Don’t do this! Stop the violence and all the bloodshed!” Sora pleaded. “It’s too late, young master!” Xemnas hissed. “I have come too far to give up now. I need more rage. I need more hearts. Only then will my dream be realized!”
“Then, I can’t hold back anymore.” Sora sighed. “I have to defeat you, for the sake of all hearts!” Xemnas snarled and lunged at him with a ferocious strike. Sora pivoted, dodging the attack and countering with a hard blow to the Nobody’s head. Xemnas stumbled, before recovering and attacking Riku. The silver haired swordsmaster blocked the slashes and went on the offensive. The tide was turning against the Superior, and he knew it.
“Damn you, heroes from the realm of light! I shall triumph, and my heart shall be returned to me!” But to his horror, Xemnas was struck by a keyblade that slipped under his guard. It was devastating. He pulled himself off of the blade, fending strikes off while gasping in pain. In utter desperation, he charged up one final attack. “If I lose, you will die with me!” Xemnas snarled. An orb of pure darkness pulsed in his hands. The black and white shading of the realm darkened and soon changed into utter blackness.
Pinpoints of crimson light dotted the sky. “Prepare for your end! The Apocalypse has come!” he sneered. The beams came, slicing through the air as they veered towards the heroes. “Riku! You take the left side! I’ll take the right!” Sora shouted. They worked together as usual, deflecting the bolts as they came. But it was a futile effort. Soon, the intensity of the barrage rose to the point where they were overwhelmed. The hail stopped, but the damage was done. Both Sora and Riku were on their knees after the lasers stopped firing.
“This is it? This is all you can muster against I, the Superior? You two are pathetic. I will enjoy your demise after all of the pain you put me through.” Xemnas lunged at Riku, aiming for the teen’s head. Sora got his second wind and rushed towards the two. He leapt in front of his best friend and blocked the strike that was meant for him. Xemnas slashed Sora on the side, before spinning around to kill the spiky-haired swordsmaster. Riku tried to get up, but he had taken more hits than his friend did. He couldn’t help his best friend in time. Instead, all he could do was watch in utter horror as Xemnas decapitated Sora in front of him.
“NOOOOOOO!!!!!!” Riku broke down in tears as the body hit the floor. With the last reserves of his strength, he crawled over to Sora’s body and held it in his arms. The Nobody had already taken the fallen hero’s head and taunted Riku with it. “He died saving your worthless life. What a waste. This boy’s sacrifice was in vain.” As Xemnas glided towards the survivor to finish him off, he had an ingenious idea that would make an example of his prisoner. He realized what he could do instead of killing Riku immediately. “I have decided your fate. I will not end your life now. No, you must suffer like no other has. Your spirit will be broken. It is my will that you shall serve me until you die. Xenmas has spoken.”
