If there was ever a perfect name which suited a child perfectly, it most certainly belonged to the one named Belle. From her birth, it was apparent that she had inherited her mother’s beautiful features, much to the joy of both her parents. In addition to her beauty, she was also gifted with her father’s gentle disposition and her mother’s intelligence. From the age of four, she was already able to read many simple words, which eventually grew into an early love for literature. When all the other children were running around or playing pretend games, Belle often chose to instead stay indoors to read such stories as Les Miserables or The Odyssey. It did not make her parents concerned though, as she had the best grades in her class because of it. As she went through puberty, she was easily the most lusted after girl amongst her age group. She, however, was more annoyed than flattered by the extra attention, especially from the arrogant one named Gaston.

Everything seemed to be in place for Belle to have a perfect life, but it all changed in one day. It started out as a normal day, but as she returned home, she was immediately able to tell that something was wrong. Her father did not have his usual bright, cheery expression he almost always donned on his face. The local doctor was also in attendance, with a grim look upon his face. A look of concern came across Belle’s features as she looked at her father.

“What’s the matter, father?” she asked, but he only sighed in response. She looked over at the doctor, who still had a look of sadness. Belle knew that something terrible had happened; she just didn’t know what. It was then when she realized the absence of one person in particular. “Where is mother?”

Her father could only sob in response. Finally, the doctor showed pity amongst his face and faced the teenaged girl. “I regret to inform you that your mother has passed away.” Belle covered her mouth with a hand as her eyes filled with tears. She couldn’t believe it. Her mother seemed perfectly fine the day before, so why wasn’t she with her now?

“How…?” was the only thing she could choke out before she was overcome with tears.

“It appears that your mother was sick for a very long time,” the doctor replied. “But she did not want her family to worry about her, so she never told anyone about it.”

At this point, Belle was in total disbelief. How could she have never noticed that her mother was sick all this time? She had coughed a few times, but it didn’t seem like anything out of the ordinary to Belle. Her mother just constantly kept a peaceful and calm aura around herself at all times. If she were sick, she did a very good job of hiding it.

Belle could not stand to stand in the room any longer though. With a sob, she ran out the door. Her father called out to try to stop her, but the doctor noted that it was probably best for Belle to spend a little time alone to get her thoughts straightened out.

As soon as she exited the door, Belle ran without a specific destination in her head. All she knew was that she did not want to be near any people at that moment. With that in mind, she ran for the outskirts of town, until she came across a wooded area near a creek. Stopping at the edge of the water, Belle knelt down and wept.

Unknown to her though, a young man had just finished chopping wood for his family in the woods, and was returning home. He heard a noise in the distance, which he dismissed at first. But as he took more steps, he recognized the sound as a female crying. Following the sound, he eventually saw a girl about his age crying by a creek. His head tilted a little and his eyebrows creased as he witnessed the scene.

“Are you all right?” he asked, with a mixture of concern and confusion in his voice.

Startled by the sudden dialogue, Belle jumped a little before turning her head. What she saw was a boy around her age with long black hair, blue eyes, and…Belle widened her eyes in horror and immediately turned around. It was just her luck that she’d run into him here. “Gaston, now is not the time! Leave me alone!” she exclaimed.

“I’m not Gaston!” the boy said. “He’s my older brother…did he hurt you?”

“No…” Belle responded, and then turned to get a better look at him. “You’re not him…I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine, but why are you crying?” the boy asked. Belle hesitated to answer, but she figured that she could at least grant him an answer to his inquiry.

“My mother died today.” She answered, with her head hung low. The boy blinked a couple of times, unsure of how he should respond to the girl. A few seconds later, she started to sob again, leaving the boy absolutely dumbfounded.

“I don’t think I ever knew your mother, but I’m sure she would have wanted you to be strong and to not cry over her.” He simply said.

Belle stopped sobbing as her eyes grew wide at the comment from the boy. At first she was offended by the cold nature of the statement, but as she remembered what the doctor had told her, she realized that he was right. Her mother had taught her to be a strong and independent woman and certainly wouldn’t have wanted her to wallow away in sorrow.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be so co-,” the boy started, but was interrupted by Belle.

“No, you’re right.” She replied, as she wiped away her tears. The boy looked surprised at that statement. Belle took out a handkerchief and blew her nose, before picking herself up from the ground. She dusted her skirt off a little before looking over at the boy and giving him a slight bow of her head. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” The boy responded, the confusion evident in his voice. Belle was about to leave, but realized something and turned around.

“Oh, I never introduced myself!” she exclaimed. “My name is Belle, I live in town. Since you’re Gaston’s brother, I assume that you just moved in?”

“Yes, that is correct.” The boy said with a nod. “But it’s nice to meet you Belle, my name is Dilan.”

“It’s good to meet your acquaintance as well, Dilan. We should talk to each other again.” Belle said with a slight smile. “But I should be getting back to my father now.”

“I understand, I should return to my family as well.” Dilan said and turned to leave. “I’ll be looking forward to our next meeting.”

Dilan then walked away and headed towards his house. His father scolded him for taking so long, but Dilan didn’t mind this time, as he figured it was the right thing to do in helping a girl in distress. But it seemed no matter what he did, he could never compare to Gaston in his father’s eyes. Even if he had the highest grades in his school, his father cared more about strength and hunting ability.

His mother tried to support him no matter what, but in the end, it was his father who had the final say in every thing. After scolding his son for a few minutes, he finally calmed down as he decided that he would help his older brother hunt the next day to make up for it. Dilan didn’t really mind hunting much; it was just that he was not very good at aiming or shooting a gun. Because of that, he got a lot of grief from his father.

The next day, Gaston grudgingly left in the woods with his younger brother. Once they were out of sight though, Gaston just simply ignored Dilan, choosing to just hunt without distraction. In his boredom, Dilan chose to just wander around. As he was doing that though, he saw a strange creature that he didn’t recall ever seeing before.

“Gaston?” Dilan asked.

“What is it now?” Gaston replied with annoyance very present in his speech.

“What is that?” Dilan asked, not looking away from the creature. Gaston simply sighed before speaking again.

“What does it look like?” Gaston asked, figuring it was something simple, like a mole.

“Well…it’s black, has yellow eyes, and it’s walking kind of like a regular person.” Dilan responded. Gaston furrowed his eyebrows, as he didn’t recall ever running into a creature like that. Not to mention that Dilan never lied about anything. Quietly, he snuck over to where Dilan was standing at. He then looked over in the direction of which he pointed at.

The creature was indeed exactly as Dilan described. It was nothing like he had ever encountered before. But it didn’t matter to Gaston, he just figured that he’d be the first person to have shot and captured something like this. Wasting no more time, he aimed and fired a shot at the weird creature. But to his horror, the shot seemingly didn’t inflict any damage on the creature at all. Instead, it merely informed the creature in the whereabouts of the two brothers. Even more surprising was the speed in which the creature could travel. As the creature drew closer and closer to the boys, Gaston knew that he would be dead if he didn’t do something quick.

So he did.

He pushed Dilan toward the creature and sprinted as the creature focused on Dilan. Dilan picked himself up and stared into the huge yellow eyes in front of him. He then took a look around him. He spotted a huge fallen branch from a tree, so he picked it up and attempted to defend himself with it. He was no match for the creature’s scratches, however. As he lied on the ground in a small pool of his own blood though, he saw something appear that he could only describe as a portal.

Until then, he was sure that things like that could only be seen in the stories that he had read. But at that point, he was just happy to find a possible way away from the creature who was giving him one hell of a beating.

Gritting his teeth, he picked himself up and made his way to the portal. But before he could enter it, the creature struck him hard against the back of his head. The impact, though, had enough force to push him the rest of the way through the portal before he passed out.

When he woke up a couple of hours later, he found himself in an unfamiliar bed. He tried to figure out where he should be, but he found that he could not remember anything about himself, apart from his name. Not long after he woke up, he was greeted by a man he would come to know as Ansem, who was accompanied by a younger man with white hair in whom he’d come to know very, very well.

At that point in time, he was blissfully ignorant on how short of time he had to appreciate being somebody, for it would only be a couple of years before he lost a most precious item: his heart.

Chapter End/Writer’s Comments

----------

Yep, I became a hardcore Xaldin/Belle shipper about three days ago. They are already my Official Kingdom Hearts Heterosexual Crack OTP. I was disappointed in finding only two oneshots for the coupling, and originally this was just supposed to be a oneshot as well. But after I watched all the videos in KH2 for Beast’s Castle again on Youtube, I realized how much potential the couple really had. I then proceeded to watch Beauty and the Beast again to make sure I didn’t screw up Belle’s character, and the whole story just snapped into place within my head!

I know a couple of you are going to be confused with the idea of me making Dilan/Xaldin the younger brother of Gaston. My explanation is to simply look at both characters. They look eerily similar, apart from the fact that Xaldin is far more smexy. ;)

Anyways, I start a lot of fanfics and don’t bother to finish them. However, this is the most inspired that I’ve been in a very long time. I already have the whole story in my head, and that NEVER happens. I’ll just warn you all that this story will most definitely get darker later on, because that’s what I write best (not to mention it would be the only way that the pairing would pretty much work). Hell, I’ll even throw in an actual lemon eventually, which I’ve surprisingly NEVER done ever before.

Hopefully my story will inspire people to convert to Xaldin/Belle shipping later on, as it would be truly awesome to see other’s interpretations of the couple. Please review and tell me what you think (even if it’s constructive criticism, which I very much enjoy) so far!
