Chapter One

(A/N): This story is very short. Nothing beyond six chapters. But then again it is to early to tell.

Also I would also like to mention that this is not a 'romantic' story. Two characters do not fall madly in love and over come over whelming odds. But this is not full blown smut either.

Although I have changed things this is not a AU but it dose slightly follow the Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series. Just thought I might give you a heads up on that before you read. Enjoy chapter one of my new fanfiction Control.

...I will like to say hello to Harley Quinn hyenaholic. I love your stories! If it werent for you I wouldn't even be writing Sonic fanfiction.

Disclaimer: I do not own Sonic nor any character belonging to SEGA!

---Chapter One---

She was quite headstrong for someone in her position. A young woman who was more of a leader then a spoiled princess. No one questioned her because she was always right, she is constantly thinking about the well being of others then herself. And yet, she doesn’t sicken me like I thought she would.

Her radiant personality, short red hair, astounding sex appeal was not what attracted me to her at first. It was her lifestyle. Yes, it’s odd isn’t it? Becoming fascinated by the way someone lived. This rather unhealthy obsession started the very first day I met her. That was less than two months ago.

After the incident with Doom I left the Ark and returned to earth. There was nothing there for me anymore and I promised myself I would put my past behind me and move on. When I arrived at Station Square it dawned on me.

‘Now what?’ I thought.

I had no where to go and no one I truly considered as a friend. My very existence now was meaningless. I didn’t drown myself in pity but my concern for residency was a problem. I wandered the streets for days without sleep or food. Eventually my needs would catch up with me.

I dreaded the city. I really hated it. The people, the stares, the paparazzi, hell the entire atmosphere of the urban world was disgusting. So I left so-called civilization and traveled outside to a place called the Great Forest. Rivers of fresh water, non-polluted air, and it was hundreds of miles away from Station Square which was more then perfect for me.

One morning as I sat in the trees just watching the sun rise I heard something. A large explosion that made the ground shook. It wasn’t long before I saw smoke.

I grunted. “Not even outside of the city I can get a little peace and quiet.” I muttered. Of course I didn’t go tend to the matter. For all I cared it wasn’t any of my business. Until I heard her.

“Bunnie look out!”

It was certainly a young women’s voice. Curiosity got the best of me and I went to investigate. With quick speed I followed the noise to open field where I watched a striking red head stood besides a half robotized girl.

Standing before them was a huge round red and grey egg shaped robot. The mechanical abomination then sprouted several arms and legs making it appear spider like. This was no doubt Dr. Robotnik’s creation.

“Bunnie you have to be on your guard.” She told her.

“DESTROY ALL FREEDOM FIGHTERS!” The robot spoke as it tried to crush the two girls. The rabbit jumped out of the way while the red head did a back flip.

“Bunnie I’ll try to distract it while you get the chaos emerald back.” She ordered.

“Ain’t gonna be a problem!” She said.

I watched her run under the robot carefully trying to avoid it’s many legs. Apparently Bunnie couldn’t live up to her words as she was knocked out by one of its arms.

The red head tried to aid her fallen friend, not paying attention to the danger she was getting into. As much as I hated to help I ran towards her and scooped her up in my arms just seconds before she was smashed. She wrapped her hands tight around my neck and didn’t look at all surprised. It was as if she was used to this kind of rescue.

“Thanks Sonic.” She said. I came to a complete stop and prayed that I heard her wrong when she called me by that blue idiot’s name. She looked up.

“How did you know I was out...” She paused looking very puzzled. “Sonic?” She questioned.

‘So, she does know that faker.’ I thought ‘He must live out here, somewhere.’

“No, I’m not Sonic.” I said after putting her down.

The robot’s one eye finally spotted us. I ran towards it and jumped on one of it’s arm. With the only weapon attached to its head it fired. I jumped off causing it to shoot itself. It lost one leg but had plenty to spare. Wanting to end the fight quickly I used my spin dash to cut through its metal body. Before giving it any chance to recover. I used the spin dash ten more times. Going in and out of it’s body. White smoke and wires hanging from the holes that I made.

“DEStroy..all...” Finally it broke in half and fell crashing to the ground.

The injured rabbit and the brunette walked up besides me.

“Who en sam’s hell are you?” The rabbit asked.

“You look like Sonic but different.” The other one said, “You can even move as fast as him, how is that even possible?”

“Hmp. You’re welcome.” I said coldly. I walked to the wreckage and began looking for the chaos emerald.

“We’re sorry,” She apologized “We should’ve thanked you for saving us first.”

I continued to ignore them.

“Iz thur anyway we can repay ya mistur...?”

As I shifted through the debris I found the bright red stone. I picked it up and grasped it tightly in my hand. I took a deep breath almost relieved to have a chaos emerald back in my possession. That great feeling of control.

“I think this will do nicely as your payment.” I said holding the up emerald for the girls to see.

As I started to walk away from the wreckage the red head ran in front of me.

“Now hold on for just a minute,” She said. “I really appreciate you saving our lives but I can’t let you take that emerald. You don’t understand the kind of power that stone has.”

“I think I know a little more then you do.” I said.

“I beg your pardon?” She placed one hand on her hip and jabbed my chest with her finger. “I need that emerald and you can’t just-”

I opened my mouth to tell her to back off, instead I grunted in pain and grabbed my side. The hunger and weariness from depriving myself from food and sleep caught up with me. Fighting that killer robot wore me out.

“Are you hurt?” she said changing her tone of voice to a more sincere one.

“I’m fine. Just tired.” She put her warm hands on shoulder examining my face closely. “I said I was-”

“You’re Shadow, aren’t you?” She asked cutting me off. “Amy and Tails told me all about you. Sonic described to me how looked too. Funny he said you looked nothing like him, but the resemblances is uncanny.”

Hearing her say that bothered me to a point where I didn’t know why.

“Well are you?” She asked me again.

“And if I am?” I said.

“And if you were,” She said sarcastically “I would be honored to be in the presence of a the hero who saved the world. Twice.”

That was just as flattering as a insult. It could’ve been my paranoia caused by GUN and the humans but the sudden act of kindness made me suspicious of her.

“If you want to wallow in the presence of a hero, run off to Sonic. Now get out of my way.”

Before I was able to pass her the rabbit grabbed my arm with mechanical hand. I shot her nasty look. If she was a man I would’ve killed her in a second. But even I have my restraints.

“I advise you to let go of me or else you want to lose that arm.” I threaten.

“Not so fast Sugah. Ya got no right takin’ that rock. It ain’t yours!” She said.

“And what makes it your own? You couldn’t even take from that pathetic excuse for a bot.”

“Ya listen here now, me and Sal looked in hell and high watars for that rock ‘til Dr. Ro-but-nik sent his stupid robots up on after us ta steal it.”

Sally put her hands gently over the rabbit’s arm.

“It’s okay Bunnie. Let him go.”

“But...” the rabbit protested.

“Bunnie,” She looked at her with stern eyes “He saved our lives and earned the chaos emerald fair and square. Let him go.”

Without a second thought she released me. Even in that short moment I was impressed. The rabbit, Bunnie, seemed a few years older then this girl. I knew then that she must have some high authority over her.

After one last look at the hill billy and the girl I left. Having lost interest as to who they were I went back to the forest starving and homeless. I had to much self-respect to go back to the city and beg for food like some piece of filth hobo. All that matter to me was the chaos emerald.

Later that night, while resting quietly near a stream. I heard a noise. Foot steps coming closer to me. My ears twitched and I realized the footsteps were too light to be of a man or machine. But to heavy to be a forest rodent.

“What do you want?” I asked with my eyes still closed.

“Something told me that you might be hungry,” The soft voice answered. “So I have some fresh fruit here for you.”

I slowly opened my eyes to see the attractive brunette from earlier that day standing over me. The moonlight and the stars made her glow. Like chaos emerald. In her hands she held a small brown back pack. I could smell the fruit from where I was laying down.

“I don’t want your food,” I lied “So you can leave and maybe I can get some rest.”

“Uh-huh.” She said simply.

As if I was invisible she sat down dangerously close to me. I watched her pulled out a blue and black fruit from her bag and started to eat it.

“Mmm-mmm” She hummed licking the sweet juice from her lips. “This sure is tasty.”

I knew what she was trying doing, but I wasn’t falling for it. I watched her take another bite out that fruit. It sent a shiver down my spine and heat rush to face. Quickly looked away and became defensive again.

“I said leave, I do not want your fucking food!” I barked.

The sudden outburst made her jump. She didn’t run away in fear like I wanted her to. The cold chilling silence wasn’t helping the awkward situation. So I started paying attention to other things, like the sound of the rustling leaves, the splash of water hitting against the rocks in the stream, and then the rumbling of my stomach.

“You say you don’t want any food but your stomach is telling me other wise.” She joked half heartedly.

By the gods how I hated myself for what I did next.

“How did you find me?” I said reaching out for some fruit.

“I have special device that can track chaos emeralds,” She handed me a large pear “Its only seventy-five percent accurate but it’s better then nothing. Her name is Nichol.”

I was hungry enough to sallow the pear whole but instead I took small bites. We both sat there on the cold thick grass eating besides each other in silence.

“Is it true what they say about you?” She asked breaking the silence.

“Believe in whatever you want.” I answered.

She looked frustrated. “What do you know about the chaos emeralds? It’s power and what its really capable of?”

I heard laughter in a dark corner of my mind. Everything became so obviously clear. From her behavior back at the field, her concern for my well being, and now this. She wanted to know the secrets of the chaos emeralds but why? My curiosity of the girl hit it’s peak. Only so few know about the emeralds, and even less dare go out and try to find them.

But why her? Besides Sonic those who seek the stones are either obsessed with great power, treasure hunters, or fools who wish to rule the world with them. And this girl didn’t look like either one. I had to ask her why.

“What to do wish to do with them once you have all seven?”

“What do mean?” She asked.

“I’m sure you’re not only curious about the emeralds, you plan to use them. Don’t you?” I looked into her eyes. “Why else would you be asking me all these questions?”

“I’m asking because you know how to use them. You don’t need a computer, machine, or any other advance technology to use chaos control.”

“Sonic can do it too, so why don’t you ask him?”

She smiled. “You’re right. I don’t know why I’m wasting my time.”

I was rather shocked by her statement.

“Sonic is obviously better using the emeralds then you.”

I crushed the pear in my hands, clumps of it oozing out between my gloved fingers. My blood boiling and my temper rising I stood and looked down on her.

“I am the ultimate life form and that faker can’t possibly be better than me including harnessing the power of the chaos emeralds!” I yelled.

She stood up and dusted off her bottom, unfazed by my words. “If you can’t answer a few simple questions then I hardly believe you’re the ultimate life form.”

A small growl rumbled in my chest as she insulted me to my face. She turned on a heel and walked off.

“But,” She said suddenly, “If you want to prove that you are in fact the ultimate life form you have to come back to the Knothole with me.”

The anger and aggression I had for her disappeared in a instant. “Knothole?” I asked.

“When we get there you’re going to have to sleep in a home and have plenty to eat until you’re well.” She continued to talk with her back facing me. “If you except this genuine hospitality I might believe are in fact who you say you are. You know, it’s not everyday a Princess invites a stranger to live in her kingdom.”

Amazingly I was not surprised that she was a princess. Power and authority just seemed to radiate from her.

She turned around and smiled. “By the way, my name is Sally.”
