Summary: Delta wants to give Shadow something special, after rejecting ideas from his friends… he decides to give the black and red hedgehog a gift in form of paper…
The Paper Crane
Snow flakes lazily drifted to the iced cover ground. Kii rubbed her arms as she avoided colliding into Christmas shoppers. She switched her bags from her left hand to her other hand “I wonder what would Delta and Honoo like.” She wondered.
Delta stood at the stove, cooking. “Delta, is the food ready? I’m hungry.” Honoo whined “Almost Honoo.” He called as he poured hot sauce into a pot.
Honoo sat and watched his friend ate quietly “Hey, my mom sent us Christmas presents,” Honoo told the white hedgehog and Delta blinked at him “and don’t go saying that ‘I don’t deserve this’ crap. Mom stole you from your evil mom and she treats you like her older son.” Honoo added “I know…” Delta replied.
“Are you ok Del?” Honoo asked a bit concern. Delta sighed “I been thinking… it’s almost Christmas… and I don’t know what to get Shadow.” Delta answered. Honoo grinned “Well, a nice-”
“No.”
“How about-”
“No.”
“I think-”
“No.”
“I’m sure he’ll-”
“No.”
Honoo pouted “Jerk.” He muttered “Ecchi*.” Delta replied. Just then the door busted open and Xellis waltzed in “Give me some food!” she stopped “Did Honoo make it?” she asked “No.” Delta answered “Give me some food!” she repeated. “Honoo has been cooking again. Hell’s kitchen is now fucked over beyond repair… and Boner is charred.” She told them as Delta served her ramen “You mean Gaikotsu’s dead?” Honoo asked a bit worried.
“No. But when he told me to put him out, I got someone to piss on him and he got mad at me so I ran.” She answered drinking the soup and noodles. Both hedgehogs stared at the cat.
“So, what ‘cha get me for Christmas?” Honoo asked Xellis “I got implants for you to enjoy!” she told him “Really?!” he exclaimed “No!” said she “Dammit…” he moped. He perked up again “I got Delty a present.” He smiled “If it’s a maid’s outfit, then you can expect your gift to be a slow, painful death.” Delta growled.
Honoo coughed “Delta’s having trouble finding a gift for Shadow.” Honoo told her. “Edible underwear!” she piped up.
“No!”
“Vibrator?”

She rolled her eyes and turned to Delta “You my friend, if you like sex so much, then why don’t you try it out? Because you’re a coward that’s why!” “And a virgin.” Honoo added and Xellis turns to him “He is? Oh my god! Bwahahahahahahaha!” and the next thing Honoo and Xellis knew, they were thrown out of the apartment.
Delta could still hear the two laughing in the hallway. He sighed “Why can’t I tell him how I feel?” he wondered.
Later in the afternoon, Sonic and Shadow were Christmas shopping. “Look at this! Isn’t this cute?!” Sonic asked as he shoved an animal plushie in Shadow’s face “If you can call it cute.” Shadow told the hero “Well, I bet Kii would love this.” He said hugging the doll. The two hedgehog left the toy store “Wow, it’s cold and busy.” Sonic stated “I know.” Shadow replied. “Why aren’t you Christmas shopping?” Sonic asked “What’s the point? I don’t have money and I refuse to borrow.” Shadow answered “How about Delta? He likes you you know.” Sonic pointed out.
Shadow thought about that “I don’t know what to get him…” he answered.
Honoo and Xellis came walking up, laughing and with tears in their eyes. “What happen to you two? Got hit by laughing gas?” Sonic asked “Liar!” Xellis shouted and pointed at Sonic “What?” Sonic wondered.
Xellis turned to Shadow “Virgin!” “I’m not a virgin!” he screamed in reply “Liar!” “How’d you know?” he asked and Xellis pointed to Honoo, who was on a bus and was waving ‘goodbye’ to them and Xellis waved back as she laughed her ass off. “He’s dead!” Shadow exclaimed, blushing as he ran after the retreating bus. “Don’t forget Shad! There’s a Christmas party the day after tomorrow!” Sonic called after him.
Delta lit a cigarette, ideas running through his mind for a perfect gift. “What the hell should I get him?” he wondered to himself. He paced his room, puffing out smoke as he paced. He headed over to his desk and pounded it with his fist “Dammit!”
Papers fluttered to the floor, he bent over to pick them up. As he picked up a paper, he noticed it was square and thin. He stared at the red origami paper, he felt his heart beat rapidly and his stomach fluttered. He sat the paper on the desk and sat in the chair, he made a decision and began to fold.
The day of the Christmas party and Delta, Xellis and Honoo were the last to arrive. “We’re here!” Honoo exclaimed happily “What is that Honoo?” Kii asked “This? This is a mistletoe.” He answered “What is the purpose of the mistletoe?” she asked again.
Honoo grinned and held the plant over her head and planted a kiss on her cheek. Sonic and Knuckles stared in shock.
After contributing an ornament to the Christmas tree and exchanging gifts, Delta was relieved that Honoo didn’t get him a dress, but stared at the small box “Honoo…” he muttered “Yes?” he asked cheerfully “I hate you.” “Aww, but I thought it was a good gift to give.” He said with a grin.
“Oh onii-chan, this is adorable.” Kii cooed as she hugged the stuff animal close and Sonic grinned.
Espio looked disappointed, Sonic didn’t give him anything. He walked over to the window and stared out at the falling snow. He blinked as tears spilled from his eyes He felt a hand on his shoulder “Why’d you go? I was going to give you your gift.” said Sonic. Espio wiped the tears from his eyes.
Sonic handed the purple chameleon a small box. Espio could feel his heart pound as he open the box, he became breathless as he stared at the gold ring “Espio…” Sonic began as he went down on one knee “Will you marry me?” they could feel all eyes on them “Yes Sonic.” Espio sobbed and threw his arms around Sonic’s neck “No!” Amy wailed. “Omedetou*!” Kii exclaimed as she clapped her hands together, happy that her ‘brother’ finally asked Espio to marry him.
Delta stared up at the sky as he smoked his cigarette, he sighed. He can’t even get up the nerve to give Shadow his gift. “Hey.” Delta turned to see Shadow “its cold out here.” Shadow stated “I don’t want to smoke in there… it’s rude.” Delta replied.
“So… what are you doing out here?” Delta asked “Honoo… he told me you wanted to see me.” Shadow answered “I’ll kill him…” the white hedgehog murmured. They both watched as the snow whirled around them and Delta crushed the cigarette under his boot. “Shadow…” Delta turned to the black and red hedgehog.
Shadow stared into those golden eyes as Delta’ fidget nervously “I… have something for you… it’s not store bought and not all that great… it’s simple, but I hope you like it.” He told him as he reached into his pocket.
He took Shadow’s hand in his and placed his other hand on top the gloved one. Shadow stared quizzically as Delta removed his hand. Shadow stared at a red paper crane “This paper crane symbolizes joy, happiness, prosperity and longevity. When it’s folded in red, it symbolizes… love.” Delta explained. Shadow looked up at Delta “I love you Shadow… I always will.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out another crane “I’ve been told that the double crane symbolizes friendship, love and a long and happy life. I hope to live with you always.” Delta put the crane back in his pocket, gently grasped Shadow’s soft cheek and kissed the Ultimate Life form on his tan cheek. Delta pulled away and tried to go back into the house.
Shadow grabbed Delta’s arm “I love you Delta and I love this gift.” He told him and Delta turned to him “You do?” Shadow blushed and nodded. He carefully wrapped his arms around Delta’s neck and pressed his lips to his. Delta slowly wrapped his arms around Shadow’s waist and returned the kiss. As the others began to sing Christmas songs, Shadow and Delta enjoyed the moment under the dancing snow.
