Under an array of thunderclouds lay the dark kingdom of Dr. Robotnik. Over the years a blue hedgehog and his allies were defying his rule. He had ruined his plans, destroyed the doctor’s citadels and crushed every robot he had set out to conquer Mobius. Now Eggman had a new plan and a new device to conquer what was really his. Over the years as his rival, Sonic the hedgehog attacked and demolished his cities and factories, he had been watching him. And he watched the other Freedom fighters, finding their faults, weaknesses. There was a small fox with two tails that often helped Sonic through thick and thin. Then there was an echidna, guardian of the floating island that housed the chaos emeralds and ultimate power. And last was Shadow, a black, strong and intelligent hedgehog who had recently lost his memory through experiments. But all that was now the past. Now he wanted to act and destroy them all. He would send a letter to each of them, inviting them to try and stop him as he began work to conquer Mobius. He would lead them into a trap. And he had created a robot engineered to kill all four of the freedom fighters. It had taken him years to build and would be the last in the line for battle. And after all, as Sonic and his dainty heroes tried to stop him, it would give Eggman some entertainment as he watched their puny attempts on screen from spy robots. It was a plan of genius. And with them finally gone, nothing would be in his way of world domination. Without Sonic or his friends, nothing could stop him.
Looking over the letter himself that he was going to send to one of them he grinned. They wouldn’t resist the challenge.
“Sensors ready.” Came a sharp, robotic voice.
“Yes, I know. Here, take these letters and send them to where I told you.” Robotnik thrust the creamy colored letters into the claws of the robot. “Clave, I have designed you to be the ultimate warrior. You will only attack them when I say, got that?”
“Affirmative. Clave IV ready.” It shot back.
Robotnik itched at his ginger moustache. He looked the robot up and down. Its silver armour glinted from the overhead lights, its head crowned with spikes and its tail equipped with a spike ball. Clave gave its master a dark stare with its red, murderous eyes.
“Go and get ready.” Robotnik stood up from his chair, “we’ve got work to do and I have many traps waiting for our little heroes!” He let out a cry of laughter as Clave stared on.

Sally was busy brushing leaves off her front porch when she heard a shout coming from the old oak forest yards from her home. She quickly looked up and saw Tails flying towards her with a sheet of tatty paper in his gloved hands. She could tell he looked frightened as the fox drew closer.
“Sally! Sally!” Yelled the downy fox, “look what I just got!” He burst out of bushes and landed heavily on the ground.
“What is all the fuss about, Tails?” Sally propped up her brush on the wall of her home, “and keep it down, the neighbours might hear you! You don’t want them to panic, believe me!”
“But Sally! Look!” Tails shoved the bit of paper into her sweaty paws, “read it!”
Sally carefully read what seemed to be a letter, addressed to Tails.


Dear Tails


I’ve heard about your heroic efforts and I would like to congratulate you on your hard work.
I bet you think you could take on the entire world! Well, I’ve heard your wish and now it has come true!
In exactly five days you have the chance to stop me but after those five days and you have failed, I will destroy all that you know and love. Try and stop me if you can! With this letter there is a map leading to my base! So you know where to go! This should be fun! And along for the trip will be Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles! You’d better all come along! It makes the odds much more even!
Of course, you could just ignore this letter and go about your sad, pathetic lives.
Either way, I will win!

“Oh dear…” Sally was speechless after reading the letter. It sounded more like a joke than something real.
“So what am I going to do?” Tails cried, upset by the message, “I can’t save the world on my own!”
“So why did you just get this message and not the others?” Sally mused
“I don’t know! I thought you’d know!” The distraught fox began to pull out tuffs of fur, “where’s Sonic?”
“He went out on his daily run. He’ll be back soon.” She paused. Then she asked him, “how did you get this letter?”
“It just came through my letterbox!” Cried Tails, “and he’s not supposed to know where we live. It’s a secret! You gotta find Sonic!”
“I know!” She screwed the letter up in frustration. That message didn’t bode well. “We’ve got five days, but why would he tell us? Tell us what he’s gonna do? It doesn’t make sense.”
