Disembarking

She woke before he did, slipping wearily from bed and seeing to her personal needs, before finally kneeling before her armor chest and lifting the lid.

“What are you doing?” He demanded, voice echoing through the cabin almost ominously.

“Preparing to don my armor.” She replied shortly, drawing the quilted tunic and trousers she wore under her armor from the chest.

“You will not.” He got up from bed, striding towards her, “You are in no condition to-”

“-If I was well enough for last nights activities, then I am well enough for this.” She replied tartly. “I will be able to keep up with the rest; you need not worry on that.”

“I will not have you risk yourself or our child in such a manner.” He growled, grabbing her by her upper arm and hauling her to her feet, “You will remain aboard the ship while we go to set up a base and hunt for Mal’Ganis.”

“I will not.” She replied, clenching her teeth, “You will not leave me defenseless! I will be far safer armored and traveling with you and the main force than I would be here.” She pointed out, “I do not seek combat. I will seek to avoid it unless absolutely necessary, but I will not remain here.”

Arthas returned her defiant look with a gaze that could have been made of mithril. “You will remain here and your armor in that chest.”

“Then you will need to tie me naked to the bed, and I will scream, which could lead to all sorts of interesting questions. Questions that I am sure neither of us wishes to answer at this time.” She pointed out, causing his expression to darken.

“Very well.” He finally agreed, releasing her, “But you will remain near to me, and should we find ourselves engaged in combat, you will retreat to the center of the force and remain out of it as much as possible.

“Agreed.” She said, turning away and beginning to dress.

“Will life with you always be like this?” He asked drily, watching her a moment.

“Only sometimes.”

“I suppose I must learn to live with it, then.” He said, going to tend to his own needs. Yet by the tone of his voice, Twyla knew that settling for this was the last thing he wished, and there would come a reckoning.

Captain Valonforth frowned when he saw Twyla in her armor, her large warhammer in its sling on her back. He said nothing, however, returning to overseeing the process of getting troops and supplies from ship to shore in the longboats. As Arthas had ordered her to, Twyla remained close to him, sharing the same boat to shore, but he barely seemed to notice, preoccupied with other thoughts.

She took a seat on a fallen log, trying not to shiver (and not succeeding) from the cold as she looked about at their surroundings. Captain Valonforth finally approached, the men finally off the flagship and the other vessels that had arrived the previous day.

“This is a light forsaken land, isn’t it?” The captain asked almost conversationally, “You can barely even see the sun! This wind cuts to the bone and you’re not even shaking.” He then realized that Arthas seemed to be paying no attention to his words, “Milord, are you all right?”

Arthas snapped out of his reverie, looking to Valonforth. “Captain, are all my forces accounted for?”

“Nearly. There are a few ships that-”

“Very well.” Arthas had frowned slightly, eyes darkening at the mention of ‘a few ships’. He did not need to know the rest; he could guess easily enough that they would either be late in arriving or not arriving at all. “Our first priority is to set up a base camp with proper defenses. There’s no telling what’s waiting for us out in the shadows.”

I swear, the hardest part of this is figuring out names for the chapters.
