Epilogue
Skye looked up from a book laying across her lap when Keith poked his head into the room. She had on a cute, unobtrusive pair of glasses and a hospital gown.
"What did the doctors say?"
"They couldn't gather any evidence because I had showered and washed my clothes so often, but they did say my injuries matched my statement." Skye lowered her eyes. "I told them the only person I wanted to press charges against was The Boss, but they told me he escaped before they got there. So I don't have to go to court or anything. They just want me to come back every few months for blood tests."
"What's that you're reading?" Keith nodded to the book.
"Oh, I'm writing." She showed him the diary. "I wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything that happened while we were on the island together."
"Including the past week?"
Skye bit her lip. "I haven't decided yet. But I have a long time to make up my mind, because that's the very end of the story!"
Keith smiled with her. It was a relief to see her doing so well after all they'd been through. "Let me read it when you're done."
"I will." Her smile faded to a worried frown.
"What's wrong?" Keith asked.
"Do you promise not to get mad?" She closed her book.
"Sure. What is it?"
Skye leaned back against her pillow. "I'm not sure. I'm afraid I liked some of what happened to me."
"What do you mean?"
She was fidgeting with the sheets. "I think my body liked some of the things they did to me. Not The Boss, the others. And I didn't, but my body just..." She sighed deeply. "I'm confused."
He patted her hand. "I guess I am too, but whatever happened is over and done with. It was a scary and stressful situation for both of us. Sometimes peoples' bodies do strange things when they're afraid or stressed. That's why people laugh when they hear their child is dead or they've just gone bankrupt. Besides," He felt his cheeks warming, "I heard that being... relaxed... makes things less painful if you're a girl. I'm glad if you found something that made things hurt less for you."
He saw Skye's shoulders sag in relief. "Thanks, Keith. I wasn't thinking about it like that."
Keith winked at her. "Also, you're technically still a virgin by today's standards, so stop worrying about that."
"How did you--?"
"You're my friend." He stood up and kissed her cheek. "I've gotten to know you pretty well by now."
She blushed at the kiss. "Then we'll keep in touch even when we're back home?"
"Are you kidding?" Keith shot her an incredulous look. "What do you think? Anyways, I want to be the first to read your finished book!"
