desperate measures.
“Raze is acting like we’re getting close.” Reign said as they ran though Duskwood.
“Good.” Windhorn said. “Let’s hope we don’t get to close to Darkshire.”
“If we do, we can take ‘em.” Reign said.
Suddenly Raze stopped. “What’s wrong, boy?” Reign asked. The large black wolf whimpered softly, looking towards the road. “Is something coming?”
The ground shook slightly as if something large was coming their way. A yell was heard from the direction of the town. Marri didn’t understand it, but Reign and Windhorn seemed to.
“What dey be sayin’?” Marri asked.
“Something’s coming.” Windhorn said.
“Stitches.” Reign said.
“Who?” Marri asked.
“Some freak hermit keeps making an undead abomination that wreaks havoc on the area.” Reign said. “Trying to avoid him will hinder our search. Let’s just take him out.”
“How hard will it be?” Windhorn asked.
“Working together, we shouldn’t have a problem.” Reign said. “What do you say, Marri?”
“Let’s get da bastard.” She said.
“Raze, go!” Reign said and pulled out his bow and arrows. The wolf took off as he ran to the path of the creature. Windhorn took his bear form and followed the wolf. Marri called upon the spirits and set totems around her and the others. She slowed the creature and had a constant flow of mana to them all.
“Damn, I like that totem.” Reign said.
“Yes yes.” She said and called the elements.
Between the three of them, they over powered the creature. They found the city guards looking on in astonishment that three Horde had saved their city.
Ignoring them completely they headed off the road and away from prying eyes.
“Raze. Find the trail again.” Reign said. The wolf sniffed about and found the trail once again then took off.
It was roughly two more hours of travel before they located their target. It was already dark. They approached the camp of the travelers. They could see Rummy standing guard. His bear was sleeping beside the dwarf.
“How do we approach this?” Reign asked.
“You two wait here. I’ll go talk to them.” Windhorn said.
“Be careful, Wind’orn.” Marri said.
“Don’t worry.” He said and walked towards the dwarf. As he approached, Rummy jumped to his feet, his gun aimed towards Windhorn. His bear was instantly awake and prepared to attack. “Rummy.” Windhorn said.
The gun lowered. “Windhorn?” Rummy said.
“Yeah.” Windhorn continued towards him, slowly. He took his weapon and placed it on the ground and stepped away from it. “I’m unarmed.”
“Ya not be needing ta do that, lad” Rummy said. “If ya were here ta attack me, ya wouldn’ave announced yer presence.” He put away his gun. “Whacha be here for, lad?”
“I came to ask a favor of Prin.” He said.
“I’m surprised ya want ta see her after all she did to ya.” Rummy said.
“I hold no ill will towards her.” Windhorn said.
“Ya be a good lad.” Rummy said. “I’ll wake her.”
“Thank you, Rummy.” Windhorn said.
Rummy walked off towards Prin’s tent. Windhorn knelt and petted Rummy’s bear. “Good to see you.” He said to the bear.
“Windhorn?” Came the high pitched voice of his former captor. He looked up. Prin looked just the same. Not a surprise. It hadn’t been long since he last saw her.
“Mistress.” He said, bowing his head a little like he used to when she addressed him.
“Windhorn... you needn’t call me that.” Prin said. “What are you doing here?”
“I need your help.” Windhorn said. “It’s about Eroth...”
“I already heard. He’d been cured.” She said. “We’re heading to Stormwind now. We just chose to go on foot instead of by air.”
“We need to see him.” Windhorn said. “Marri needs to see him.” Prin didn’t say anything. “Before he left, he and Marri got married. She needs to see him again. With her own eyes.”
“I see.” She said. “What do you need from me then?”
“We need a way to get into Stormwind, without being attacked by the guards.” Windhorn said.
“Okay.” Prin said.
“I’d been there many times with you...” Windhorn said. “But only as a captive. Please... take us with you to Stormwind.”
“Windhorn, they’ll know if you’re not under my spell...” Prin said.
“I know that...” Windhorn said.
“Are you... asking me to... put you back under my spell?” Prin asked surprised.
“Myself, Marri and Reign.” He replied.
“Reign?” Prin echoed.
“A new companion of ours.” Windhorn said.
“Are you sure about this?” Prin asked.
“I’m sure. And it’s a way you can be sure we won’t betray you, or hurt anyone on this trip.” Windhorn said. “We need to see him. Talk to him... No matter what the cost.”
“Windhorn... how do you know I won’t betray you? How do you know I won’t just keep you all captive?” She asked.
“Because, mistress, I know you. I trust you.” Windhorn said.
Prin blushed.
“They just wish to see him, Prin. Let the lad and his friends come.” Rummy said. Prin jumped. She’d forgotten he’d even been there.
“Alright. Bring your friends here. Be sure they understand that I can’t fake them being my slaves.” Prin said.
“I’ll make sure they know, mistress.” Windhorn said and stood. He turned and hurried off.
“This... is crazy.” Prin said.
“Aye.” Rummy said.
“Am I doing the right thing?” Prin asked.
“Aye.” Rummy replied.
Windhorn returned a few minutes later with Marri and Reign. Marri refused to meet their gazes. “They understand.” Windhorn said.
“Who’s first?” Prin asked.
“I am.” Windhorn said. Prin nodded and started her spell. Within seconds a golden collar appeared around his neck. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, feeling the magic spirit away his free will. He opened his eyes.
“Windhorn, there is an extra tent in the saddle bag. Go pitch the tent for your friends and you.” She said. Windhorn nodded and hurried off. “Who is next?” Prin asked.
“Marri? Are you next? Or do you wish to be last?” Reign asked.
“I go next.” She said and took a step forward, still not meeting their gaze.
Prin started to cast again. Marri closed her eyes, whimpering softly as she felt the spell take hold. She was scared. After what Prin had done to her before she was terrified that Prin would take advantage of their surrender. She reminded herself that it was for Eroth. She was doing this to find Eroth. She’d do anything for him. She felt the collar form around her neck. As she felt the magic subside, she opened her eyes.
“You should be able to understand me now, Marri.” Prin said.
Marri nodded. She couldn’t make out the words, but the meaning of them formed in her mind. She understood without understanding. Odd.
Prin looked to Reign. “And you’re next?” She asked.
“Yes.” Reign said.
“Ya not need ta be doin’ dis, Reign.” Marri said. “Ya not even be knowin’ Erot’.”
“You’re not leaving me behind.” Reign said. “Cast the spell, gnome.”
“That is Mistress to you.” She said and cast the spell one last time. Reign frowned at the feelings it caused. Raze growled softly, not liking someone casting a spell on his master. Reign held up his hand to his wolf, who stopped growling.
“There, done. You two help Windhorn with the tent.” She said. “I’m going to rest.”
Marri could feel her legs moving without her trying. She attempted to make herself stop, but she couldn’t. She found herself helping Windhorn pitch the tent. She couldn’t fight it. They finished pitching the tent and went in. Rummy came to the flap of the tent.
“Rest well, you three. We be getting to Stormwind in two days.” He said and left.
“Thank you Rummy.” Windhorn said.
Reign assisted Marri in laying out sleeping rolls.
“I don’ t’ink I be able ta sleep.” Marri said.
“I can help.” Prin said entering the tent. “Marri, sleep.”
Marri’s head swam for mere moments before she fell fast asleep. Reign caught her as she fell. He laid her down gently. Marri rolled over and continued sleeping.
“Oops, guess I should have told her to lay down first.” Prin said. “Anyone else need help sleeping?”
“Nope.” Reign said.
“No, thank you, mistress.” Windhorn said.
Prin nodded and left the tent.
“How are you holding up?” Windhorn asked Reign.
“So far, so good.” He said. “It’s odd, not having control of most of your actions, but I figured it would be.”
Windhorn nodded. “You’ll get used to it.” He said.
“Fun.” Reign said. He patted the ground and Raze curled up at the head of the bed roll next to Marri’s. Reign curled up, close to Marri and closed his eyes. “Goodnight, Windhorn.”
“Goodnight.” Windhorn said laying down on the bed roll on the other side of Marri.
“Good.” Windhorn said. “Let’s hope we don’t get to close to Darkshire.”
“If we do, we can take ‘em.” Reign said.
