“ Lost… your heart?”
Riku’s smile was cold. And Sora saw it then… that brilliant glow around Riku was gone. Nothing replaced it, leaving the gaping hole in Riku’s spirit barely enough to keep him alive.
“ So you see, you cant save me. Ha, you might as well go back to Destiny Islands. “ Riku said, his hand around the withering heart tightening, further choking it of life.
“ Please, Riku.” Sora whimpered quietly, taking a step toward his old friend. Riku’s steely eyes watched, only for a moment, then turning away to look upon the ridge just behind them, rising up like the great spine of a dragon.
“ You see them, Sora? Their here to destroy you, my kind… unless you turn around, and leave right now.” Riku spat viciously, pointing to the long trackt let led down the steep mountain.
/ Oh god, is he about to cry? /
“ No… this isn’t you.” Sora choked a little, the first little tear cutting its way down his cheek. Riku stomped his foot.
“ Stop crying, you baby! You always cry when you don’t like a situation! And I’m not always going to be there to comfort you!” Riku snarled, gritting his teeth. Sora looked up quickly, so rapidly that the few tears haunting his cheeks flew up, dotting into the snow.
Riku was walking toward him now. That powerful, determinded stride, his arms tight at his sides. He saw this air about Riku once before, when one of the islanders had destroyed their first raft.
“ I… I cant help it, Ri—“ Sora was cut off when Riku backhanded him. There was a certain restraint in the hit, but what power it held knocked Sora onto his side, face first into the snow.
“ Stop it, Sora!” Riku stood above him, powerful. Dark, like the Heartless, and just as unforgiving. Sora looked up, split lip quivering, much like a five-year-olds might in this senerio.
“ But… its l-like your dead!” Sora cried, and threw himself at Riku’s feet, his large hands gripped his friends slim ankles. Riku wanted to back away, kick Sora back, punish him, for not being strong enough. Beholder of the Key Blade cant have such a weakness. No tears with strength.
“Sora, leave. “ Riku said simply, one foot prying itself from Sora’s rather tight grasp, “ Please.backback to Destiny Islands. Your obviously not strong enough.”
Sora was still crying. Blubbering like a baby, to better express it.
“ Just leave. You don’t belong here.”
Those words sparked something deep in Sora. Feelings he forgot on Destiny Islands. Competitive, the thrive to beat Riku at any game. The thrill of finally winning, once in a blue moon, and the high he swooned in long after, even after many more defeats.
“ Fine then, Riku!” Sora yelled, and pulled Riku’s leg. He went tumbling down, since he obviously hadn’t expected the younger boy to do this.
Sora leapt to his feet and snatched the Key Blade. Pointing the beautiful curve of the splendidly cut key shape into Riku’s face, daunting. Riku stared at it in surprise, then up at his friend.
“ So your going to destroy me, Sora?” Riku said coolly.
Sora’s hand begun to shake, “ If I have to, then I will.”
“ So confident, all of a sudden.” Riku slowly begun to sit up. Sora shoved the Key Blade into his chest, effectively forcing him down again.
“ Hit me, yell at me, call me names… you were never like that, Riku.” Sora said miserably, whilst swiping the coat sleeve against his tender cheek and bleeding lip.
“ Why cant you just leave.” Riku let himself be shove down, and spread his arms out underneath the snow, tumbling over his powerful arms.
“ Because… you’re my friend, Riku! I care about you.” Sora affronted. Riku could feel the tip of the Key Blade burning his skin, even through the leather body suit; he was more Heartless than he thought.
“ Care about me. What do you mean?”
“ All those times… when it stormed, inside the secret place… we used to spend every day together! Remember, Riku!”
// Riku lay on Sora’s bed, watching as his friend tore through the wrapped gift he brought.
“ Damn, Riku! Why did you have to use so much paper…aha!” Sora said with glee, finally making it to the bare bamboo box beneath. Riku grinned.
“ I wanted to make it difficult, “ He spared a glance to the bundle of discarded wrapping paper, “ I guess I need to use more next time.”
“ Don’t waste it, Riku, “ Sora said absently, running his fingers across the boxes smooth surface. The sweetest little smile glanced over his features, as he opened the lid.
“ A chain? … What is this, Riku?” Sora lifted the fine silver chain from the box, admiring the links and their smooth surface.
“ Wallace, the metal smith a few islands away made it. He said it will protect you, whatever may happen.” Riku smiled fondly as Sora attempted to put the chain around his thin neck.
“ Protect me from what?” Sora looked up, flipping up a lock of hair out of his eyes. It fell back into its place though, and Riku had the strange urge to remove it himself.
“ It goes at your waist… that’s it. Incase anything happened when we’re out on the raft. We’re leaving in two months, you know.”
“ I know.” Sora cooled the palm of his hand with a handful of the metal links, then smile widely to his friend, “ Thanks a lot, Riku. I really like it.”
“ I knew that you would. It goes nicely with that necklace Kairi got you.”
“ Yeah… maybe she got it from Wallace, too.” Sora lifted the nearly identical chain about his neck.
“ Maybe.”
Then there was a comfortable silence. Of which Sora went to exploring the old symbols on the side of the box. Just lettering, like “peace” and “virtue”. While Riku toyed with a little bow, sticking it on top of Sora’s head.
“ I cant believe your fourteen. “ Riku purred.
“ Why not?” Sora looked defensive. It was cute.
“ Because. I always picture yo tha that little kid I met in the cave.”
“ Yeah, well… I’m all grown up, now.” Sora said proudly. Riku snickered and sat up, stretching his arms above his head, then swinging them down to his sides dramatically.
“ So now that your fourteen, you think your grown?”
“ Of coarse. You acted the same way when you were fourteen. “
“ Past tense. I’m not anymore.” Riku watched Sora got up, and slip onto the bed. The movement was sensual, somehow, but to Sora, it was just the casual climb from floor to bed. He sat beside Riku, he back pressed to the wall.
“ Yeah well… you were.”
“ Enough about that.” Riku swung his arm around Sora’s shoulders, thus pressing them close together. Sora felt his heart thundering against his ribcage… why was he so nervous? Riku had been his friend for years… he was always so nervous, being this close to his friend…
Maybe it was because he could look clearly into those lovely feline eyes. Or feel the pure warmth of his skindes des expanding with every breathe he took… he could even hear it. The weight of Riku’s arm, the way that his fingers teased with the lapel of Sora’s vest… all caused his heart to stammer.
“ I’ve never seen you with any girls, Sora.” Riku commented, his left hand sneaking across his lap, towards Sora’s own, which rested limply between them. The latter didn’t really seem to notice.
“ I… I don’t know w-why. I like Kairi, but… not enough to, ya know…” Sora blushed, leaning his head back against Riku’s arm a little.
“ Have you even tried?” Riku’s fingers were now toying with Sora’s. Those lovely ocean blue eyes looked down, watched their fingers play, chewing his lip when Riku ran a finger down the center of his palm.
“ Kairi has… She-e told me the next day that she was trying to flirt.” He flushed again, “ M-maybe… I just don’t notice it?”
“ Maybe she needs to be more forward.” Riku said, with an odd calm to his voice. How could Riku keep his voice that steady? Sora’s own broke and cracked when he talked. He was nervous.
“ Y-yeah…” Sora swallowed, and let his head fall back into Riku’s shoulder, surprisingly soft to the touch. Considering how much the other worked out, he figure the muscle would be toned, weither he be relaxed, or ready for a fight.
“ Of maybe… You just don’t like her. In that way, I mean.”
“ What?” Sora sat up a little bit, but Riku’s arm wrapped around his shoulders kept him seated.
Riku’s fingers slowly laced with Sora’s. It was a careful touch, Riku’s large hand barely having to even comform to the shape of his friends smaller one. And when Sora gave a light squeeze, Riku returned it, heat building between their palms.
“ I like you a lot, Sora.” Riku whispered into his ear. Sora felt his skin around it prickle, and he unknowingly leaned into that warm breathe, and those full, sweet lips.
“ I really like you, too, Riku.” Sora said, taking in a sharp breathe when Riku’s pressed his warm lips to his earlobe. He never knew that it could be so sensitive right there.
“ Good.” Riku assured, those soft kisses of his roaming to Sora’s slacked jaw, “ Do you want to see how much?”
“ How m-much what?” Sora’s voice broke again. He tilted his head back, unknowingly, allowing Riku to attack his gulping throat.
“ How much I like you, g” Ri” Riku made it sound obvious. It made Sora blush, in his ignorance, “ .. Well, do you?”
“ Mmph.” Sora whimpered, because Riku had left his throat chilly with drying traces of saliva, “ Uhm… s-sure, I guess…”
“ Good.” Riku grinned. That infamous, feline grin of his, that could make an empire crumble at his feet. Or just one very shaken brunette.
Riku then pulled Sora in for a kiss. It was sweet. The gentle caress of Riku’s lips was mesmerizing. He turned his head into it, opened his mouth for Riku to pillage, pressed against him. Riku made a soft noise, deep in the back of his throat, that seemed to rumble all around him.
The next thing Sora knew, he was laying flat on his back. His arms spread out above his head, then carefully lacing into Riku’s hair. The elder boy was attacking his neck with nipping and suckling kisses… he whimpered a little when Riku found a sensitive spot, somewhere near the base of his throat, just above the curving dip in his collar bone.
“ Sora.” Riku’s voice was deeper, husky, when he spoke, “ Sora… I need you.”
“ Need me?” Sora repeated, dazed at first. Why did Riku have to break the delicate spell over them?
“ Your so young.” Riku laughed, though briefly, “ You know… haven’t you ever felt a need before?”
“ I… I suppose…”
“ Not like water or food. But… needing someone.” Riku lightly bit his protruding lower lip, making Sora squeak a little, pitiful sound, “ That kind.”
“ O-once before… A long time ago.” Sora was chewing on the inside of his lip.
“ Then I’ll show you.”
“ Okay.”
“ Like this.” Riku’s hands slipped away from underneath Sora’s shirt, and grabbed his lean hips. And then, he did something that caused sparks to shoot through Sora’s lithe body.
ssinssing his hips down, grinding their loins together. Sora arched upon the contact, his thin arms flying around Riku swiftly, as his friend carefully begun a slow pace.
“ Oooh, Riku!” Sora moaned, turning his head to rest it on Riku’s shoulder, chewing his lip once again.
“ Don’t… worry you lip like that.” Riku managed, breathing deeply.
“ I cant help it.” Sora breathed, resting his head back onto the bed, head arching back on his long neck.
“ Good?”
“ Mmhmm…”
“ Feeling anything special?” Riku was biting the collar of his shirt, pulling it down this way.
“ I… I feel near to something…”
“ Just wait until you reach it.” //
“ I remembered something.”
The Key Blade on his chest lightened.
“ You turned fourteen… almost a year ago. We wereyouryour room… “ Riku’s eyes fogged. The Heartless were reclaiming that sweet memory.
“ And?” Sora pushed anxieously. Riku’s head fell to the side, eyes wide and staring.
“ I forgot.” He said quietly. The Key Blade was there again, insistant. Damn, it was really beginning to burn.
“ Why do you keep forgetting!”
“ Because I kept my memories in my heart. I lost them with it. I can only remember small things, like how you cried all the time, and that your weak!” Riku snarled, kicking out Sora’s leg from under him.
He fell, and effectively, Riku stood, brushing the snow off the leather suit with a hard smirk.
“ And you keep getting weaker and weaker. I can see it in your eyes, “ it turned, opening his palm to peer down at the flickering heart in the center, “ I shall tell your friends you said hello.”
“ You took Goofy and Donald! Riku, how could you?” Sora leapt to his feet, much quicker than Riku recalled. He was rushing towards him, the Key Blade raised and ready to strike. He turned with a smirk, whipping a kick right into Sora.
But not before the Key Blade fell hard onto his shoulder.
It was quite literally scalding the skin under the leather. Never had anything so painful cursed him. He yelled when heshedshed into the snow again, “ Heartless!”
A herd of them spilled over the mountain, at least three, large and gruesome beasts. And tied on two of their foreheads, was Goofy and Donald.
End of Chapter Eight.
